What about Cincinnati, has not had a Republican mayor since 1989. Crime has risen, the public schools are a mess. Corruption by elected officials has occurred. Closest I get to the city is to drive through or around. Democrat leaders enough said

I don't closely watch politics in general, but spending money they don't have, corruption, and general disregard for what is best for the taxpayers seems to be a consistent theme in Cincinnati. The current mayor does have some good ideas and hoping he can manage to make improvements in quality of life without raising taxes more.

When I move to Cleveland in 96 the average family had around 4 children... These days when I take a walk with my granddaughters.. I'm the only one walking with children.. everyone else is walking digs , the dogs Parks are popping everywhere and children playground are empty...

That is a shame. We still see plenty of children here in the Cincinnati area. At least in many spots.

Sounds like the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Dick Van Dyke was wondering what was missing when arriving to search for Granpa, and it was Truly who told him, look, there are no children. Where are all the children?

@@tomodonovan5931 I appreciate you bringing it back to a movie reference. My guess is the children are in front of a screen somewhere, but not watching something amazing like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Any other thoughts?

@@LivinginCincinnatiOhio My family fled a lot of cities, simply because my dad was in the service. Every state we lived in was the capitol of that state. Lost a few friends, and had to make new friends when we moved. Not easy to do when young. Most friends knew each other since being young. They went to the same school when growing up. I found out being a kid was tough, but not as tough as being an adult. You definitely have more responsibilities. And you figured out the movies that scared you when young. Pit and the Pendulum scared me as a kid, but I knew I grew up when I saw that it was nothing more than a wife who was cheating on her husband. You don't figure that out as a kid. Not until your mind expands into its vast awareness.

We're not dropping like a stone in water here in Springfield, why we've just gotten a population boost of 20,000 Haitian immigrants. No doubt, we are becoming one of the fastest growing cities anywhere, because word is another 40,000 are on their way. So, in conclusion, we may well be the biggest 3rd world city in the state. Wonderful, just wonderful.
@LivinginCincinnatiOhio3 ай бұрын
There's not a city in Ohio that could handle 40k people just showing up randomly. I'm so sorry that Springfield and many other areas are dealing with this. The city and state should sue the federal government and ship them somewhere else. Is it true the city leaders own properties that are being rented by the newcomers?

I relocated from Chicago to Cincinnati. I been to Cleveland, like Cincinnati it has its rough spots on sure but all these places you mentioned compared to Chicago, I don't hear about X amount of being killed over the weekend in homicide cases, price of living atleast in Cincinnati is very reasonable, it's easier to get around, less traffic, winters are mild compared to the ice fronts that come thru from lake Michigan. One thing I want to point out in Cincinnati area is the renovations and businesses that come in to build a facility around the city. The clean up they did around TQL stadium, Summit Park in Blue Ash which use to be an old airport, The abandon Cincinnati Mills mall is going to be redeveloped into warehousing facilities I hear. Another thing I want to mentioned about Chicago specifically is the tollway system. Not many people down here are aware of this. Interstate 80 runs thru Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania that entire strip has toll booths going from each end of state and for each exit and entrance ramp on the Interstate last time (it's been a long while since I been on it) it cost $4-$5 in toll charges from each end of Indiana to go thru entire state. It may be more expensive now but I assume it's to maintain the Interstate. Illinois (especially going into Chicago) they have these on each interstate every 20 miles or so no matter which interstate you are on. They will try to get whatever they can out of locals, out of state commuters, people passing thru, and tourist usually $3 each booth every vehicle that goes thru the state gates. I seen areas up to $6 as well especially on the skyway going into directly downtown. For all the money they bring in on the daily basis for decades interstates have not improved and neither has redevelopment around the city to better the quality and safety of its residents. Shame on you Chicago. I encourage any Chicagoans looking to relocate looking not only at Cincinnati but anywhere Ohio has better standards of living than the 3rd biggest city in US.

@DarkMoon1991 Thank you for sharing your experience, I'm glad you found a better fit! Leaders have talked about making the Brent Spence Bridge a toll bridge and I hope they don't. It seems that once they start charging, it just keeps increasing. I remember when I was younger tossing quarters at the toll booths and now it's as you said, $20 bucks from one end of the state to the other.

I live in Covington, KY but I have lived in Cincinnati and my family lives there… Crazy to see what’s happening to Ohio. Hopefully Cincinnati doesn’t get the same treatment. I love this city. It’s kind of like a little secret paradise for the locals. I don’t want to get the mass influx of people moving here from other states and cities because the place they live now sucks. That’s how our city will eventually start to suck. Cincinnati and the NKY riverfront cities have seen a big boom in recent years. I remember 10 years ago, you’d see heroin needles all over the sidewalks. They’ve really cleaned things up. I want it to stay that way, but more population means more crime.😢
@LivinginCincinnatiOhio2 ай бұрын
@Lovell93 Thanks for sharing your perspective! It's great to hear how much you love Cincinnati and NKY - the riverfront area really has transformed in the last decade. I understand the worry about population growth leading to more crime or other challenges, but I also believe that with thoughtful planning and investment, cities can grow while maintaining their unique character and safety. Cincinnati has been doing a lot to attract new residents, and it's important that the growth benefits the community as a whole. Let’s hope we can continue to enjoy the best of both worlds - a thriving city that still feels like a hidden gem!
