There is a real out of bounds Mario mushroom item in Super Mario Galaxy and it actually *will* crash the game if its removed from the files. Maybe that’s where the rumour originated or was at least inspired by it

The Mushroom thing is not really as silly as people make it out to be. There is indeed a Mushroom model in the game files (not placed anywhere in-game, just in the files), but from what I remember it was used as a placeholder for Mario's model while they were testing movement and physics, and while I speculate I imagine the reason deleting it crashes the game is because the code still calls to load the model even though it's no longer necessary, and if it isn't there it presumably freaks out. So yes, deleting it crashes Galaxy, but almost certainly not because it's some sort of magical entity that every line of code in the game hinges on, just that somebody working on the game figured nobody would delete the model because why would someone delete it? EDIT: Oh yeah, also deleting it doesn't crash 3D All-Stars; I actually think the Mushroom was one of the models removed from the game files for that release. Presumably, they tightened up the code a bit while they were doing the port.

For one you can't tell who's on what team. 2, when you get any on screen effects like being ubered your whole screen is replaced with a checkerboard and you literally can't see because the missing texture texture has no transparency. And 3... (That's the next video :) )
