The Percy Jackson books are super popular and had Fox played their cards right, they might have had a Harry Potter type franchise on their hands. Unfortunately, after Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief came out in 2011, fans and critics alike didn’t really love what they were doing with the material. But, the movie made enough money to warrant giving the whole thing another shot. Thus, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters was born.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters definitely raises some questions. Like why is Poseidon ignoring his son? Why is Tyson here and how can he see with those sunglasses on? How is Luke still alive? Why aren’t more people involved in this quest if annihilation is the possible outcome? Why isn’t Luke using his teleportation device more often? How is Luke surfing off of Percy’s wave? Why doesn’t being swallowed by a lava monster hurt anyone? Did they think this was getting a sequel?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

@@DrDolan2000 definitely ixnay on ordering kids not to die. The first thing you learn as a parent is that kids are basically always trying to die (have you ever seen a toddler learn to climb the stairs?). And the second thing is that they will always do exactly what you tell them not to do. But then again, maybe telling kids to die would be a bad idea. So.

The Potter films and the LOTR films are massively popular because they adapted the source materials very closely- so obviously we are not going to do that.
@sorrycashonly5651
@sorrycashonly5651 2 жыл бұрын
it's not just adapting to the source material. Those movies actually have long term plans to develop themselves into a long franchise too. You can tell from their choice of casting... Percy Jackson's actor was 18 years old in the first movie... where he plays a 12 years old kid... The actor was 21 years old in the sequel where he plays a 13 years old kid.... Annabeth was even worse... The actress was 24 years old when she played a 12 years old Annabeth... She was 27 in the sequel when she played a 13 years old kid.... the "franchise" was pretty much doom from the beginning because it was clear the studio wasn't thinking long term. They just want to ride the hype of the harry potter and lure people to think they are buying tickets to watch a franchise being born.
@kingsleycy3450

@@_Stormfather How is it a problem with the book when they hire adults in their 20s to play characters in their early 10s? Ya sure they never act as young as the book, but remember, the book is about students finding their ways to become gods.... There is zero excuse for the studio to cast a 24 years old actress to play a student, as by the time they reach the third book, the actress would be in her 30s already.
@_Stormfather
@_Stormfather 2 жыл бұрын
@@sorrycashonly5651 it's a problem with the book, because their maturity in the book and their age in the book don't match up. It's a flaw in the writing. They should have either acted more like kids, or been aged up. Personally, I always imagined them being much older when I read the books, because that made it actually make sense and didn't hinder the story. Now, the movie didn't have to do _quite_ so much older, so there's fault in both places I suppose. But still, it was a problem in the books

Just in case anyone happens to not be aware, there is a new PJO series in the works for Disney+! Whereas Rick had no involvement in the movies at all, he's literally writing the scripts for these shows and is hugely involved, and he wants to make sure things are as faithful to the books as possible. As of writing this, they've been doing preliminary casting for Percy's character and just have to lock in a director, then they can move ahead fully with development and starting cast for other characters. It's expected to be a late 2022 or first half of 2023 release. P.S. There is also a Kane Chronicles series in the works for Netflix!

It has been a while so don't remember a lot of details of that scene but I kind of like the idea too. Even if he didn't split himself up or something like that it could still work. He could just know that Percy was coming by and take over at that store long enough to help him and then just go back to his other godly stuff afterwards.
