How quickly things change. Been into watches for a decade now and only five years ago, I was only focusing on Omega, Breitling or Tudor. I was considering Longines as an affordable brand and quartz was not for me Since that time, I have sold my Rolex, Breitling and Omega watches, bought a Citizen The Citizen Chronomaster and have purchased this very salmon dial Mercury and a Furlan Marri inspired Pagani watch presented by Jody on his YT channel. From €5 k to $120, and I have never been happier with my collection.

From what I've read, K1 mineral is much harder than a standard mineral, and just a step below Sapphire. It should be much more scratch resistant, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Great review as always, Steve!

It's definitely possible...I just assumed K1=hardlex=mineral....I've scratched the others.....so this will be no different ....lol. hope you are right, though

Really want to pull the trigger with upcoming sale but minute hand being too short is a big turn off for a sector dial. Wonder if it will be fixed if I order now or will have to wait for the future?

Pierre Paulin is just an offspring of the Longines family, thus the design is alike. 😜 Anyways, OG and this one are beautiful dial watches, no doubt about it, although the hands in this one are tad short. Combined with this suede strap you have a classic elegant thing on your wrist, for every scenario indeed, simple as that. (btw, the seatbelt blue nylon strap combo is also awesome) Thanks for the review Steve, trully a "worthy for a collection" watch as you said. Cheers mate.

I really like Merkur watches! The watches with this mouvement seems great and very affordable (I like mechanical mouvement, I mean no automatic. I love wind my watch 😊). Great review as usual. Thanks Steve.

Nice watch but you're right the hands are way too short. Their mineral crystals are pretty hard, I knocked my military style Seizenn on a wall last week, and the crystal took the hit. It was covered in paint that I had to scratch off with my fingernail, underneath the crystal was unmarked 👍

I gave my wife a Pierre Paulin manual wind moon-phase chrono for Christmas 2019. It is a beauty of a watch. She wishes it was an automatic, because when it stops...you have work to do to set it for day/date/moon, etc. When she/mostly me, sets it, she wears it for a couple weeks. It is built very nicely. The polishing and brushing on it is done to perfection. Was a little over $350 CAD at the time. I have chatted to a few others who have this, and Merkur/Pierre Paulin really spared nothing on it. Yeah a hand wind moon phase would be an issue. Does it at least have a power reserve meter on the dial?

If not for these short hands, it actually looks nice. Hour hand body should be touching the inner circle with the tip pointing outward. The minute hand should reach the second circle with the tip touching the railway track. I wonder if they make a Version 2 or just redo the whole first batch.

Everything about it I like..... except the length of the hands (in particular the minute hand). Would like to see a review of the white/silver dial, but it seems that Merkur sent all the YT channels the salmon dial. Great review, thanks!!!

Hey Steve, I find that Mont Blanc did it best with their salmon fare, using a dark charcoal alligator strap. I’ve had success with a different salmon dial watch from Merkur, using a Vario vintage Italian leather pewter grey strap. The whole thing screams salmon skin and flesh. How indeed does nature just know what colours go together?

I was close to picking this up, but mineral crystal is a no go for me. Acrylic would have been alright. Permanent scratches kill it for me. Such a pretty salmon dial and I love the small second hand. The hands are definitely attach short.

I have their "anual rings" salmon dial watch and I love it. Put it on a Geckota beads of rice with the folded end link and it just fits great.

Mine has longer hands. Just as you asked for.Minute hand to the edge of the dial, hour hand past the first ring and the second hand even touches the edge of the sub dial. I can't put it on anything but the subtle grey strap, nothing looks as good. My buckle is not signed.

How is the visibility of the crystal onde it gets finger prints on it? That is my biggest concern with this piece.

Hmm, first time I've gotten this question. You asking about the visibility of the fingerprints or clarity through the crystal once it's accumulated the prints?

Wondering about the clarity of viewing through finger prints. I guess hardlex is different but I hate that about my cocktail time. It gets so blurry on an angle as soon as any oils get on the cryatal.

This one a strange case. In original Longines the hands are exact radius of respective circles. The model you're reviewing clearly has hands that are too short. Newer renditions are opposite. Somehow that company is on the sloppy side in terms of design.

The hands have been updated on V2. As for the movement, it's been running fine...not sure what makes it garbage
