a lot said here that is negative. I DO pilates and I think the instructor is wonderful and charming and VERY fit. Even this beginner class of Pilates is much more difficult than most can imagine. I am a guy and I go to the Gym also, but I love Pilates. When I do Pilates I have no need for my chiropractor. Thanks for the VID Kathi Nash and thanks Josef Pilates.

It is amusing how many people in the comments are talking about Pilates being "calming" and "relaxing".... did y'all get lost on your way to yoga class? Classical Pilates is vigorous. Another thing is that in classical Pilates the sequence is set - anyone taking the class knows exactly the order the exercises are coming in, so that's why it's so fast. For those of you saying she's intense though, you're right. Kathi has a black belt and was a principal ballerina. THAT is badass.
@4kats6 жыл бұрын
Vivian Lee I agree. When I first bought a home pilates machine I was very vigorous on mine. I think the thing to remember is it can be easy also depending on energy levels etc. I take the intensity down on my easy days. But it does not have to be slow and easy all the time! Who made that one up lol!

I would love to have K.R.N. tell me what to do during a session. I would be quick to take her corrections because her energy and her seemingly effortless precision in movement is inspiring. Her teaching approach is totally different than mine. For the sake of the video, she's narrating while the 'client' demonstrates what a quick beginner workout looks like and this always took me around 15min as an apprentice at an intermediate level, but its still a beginners sequence of excercises. In the video she did knee stretch with knees off which is not a beginner excercise typically, but thats the thing about Pilates - one excercise may look so hard, but come really easy to one person and for another it seems impossible, but their body lets them do another more advanced piece that doesn't come as easy to that other body. 'We all have our gifts', but Pilates teaches us what we're capable of and where we have room for improvement (daily). Pilates truly is for everybody. Some of the instructors commenting mean well with their comments in defense of KRN, but its unfortunate that they still keep up the b.s. elitist act. You don't have to disregard others to defend / celebrate KRN people. I bet she tries to rise above the b.s. Elitism is a major issue in Pilates. I'm never going to call myself a classical or contemporary instructor just to drive these types bonkers. I'm also not going to keep spouting out my lineage to gain respect (eg, lineage doesn't necessarily make you great people).

I find all the negative comments on here extremely odd. While I absolutely understand that not every teacher will match everyone's taste, people seem to be misinterpreting the intent of this video. As Kathi clearly explains within the first 30 seconds or so, this video is to demonstrate the strong flow between the beginner reformer exercises for a healthy individual--she clearly states that she won't be doing much correcting and explaining and that that is intentional. The Pilates most people experience has been so watered down that the original work seems foreign. Kathi understands the original intent as she has been trained by no less than 3 first-generation teachers (Romana Kryzanowska, Kathy Grant and Jay Grimes) who learned Contrology (now referred to as Pilates) from Joseph Pilates himself, and has been practicing this method at its highest levels for more than three decades. Who amongst those being so harsh can say the same?

Her verbal instruction style is just theatrical and some can take it like she’s talking to a little child. Like when she says gooood GIRL! Like she just patted her French poodle on the head for pooing where she wanted it too. She is well versed and can have any style she wants however in the beginning it did say she wouldn’t be saying much. When she retires from Pilates she would make an excellent ballet teacher for little ones with this style of verbal cuing. Do your thing sister quirky and cute !

That may be a 'Beginner reformer'... but some of those later moves and ESPECIALLY the pace was way advanced, she obviously is at a gymnasts level of expertise to achieve the knee to the head. Not a beginner move. But that was brilliant... I've only been doing pilates for a few months now and watching this I know I have a VERY long way to go. But it is amazing the changes I've already noticed.

I am a brand new pilates pupil and I watched this for help with form and flow. I only wish that Ms. Nash had given the name of each exercise when it was performed. They each have a name and one is supposed to be able to do each one when it is named. I appreciated seeing the form and the pace but it would have been more helpful to me had she named each exercise. instead of just a few of them.

Unsurpassed teacher's personality, teaching skills, details pointing! Negative comments written right here, are probably expressed by those who -sorry- have nothing to do with classic pilates, the authentic one! Her voice is vigorous and perfectly matching the rythm-tone of each movement. Authentic pilates has nothing to do with relaxing or simple stretching etc. To cut the long story short, authentic pilates is a whole world to explore, from head to toe... Kathy Ross Nash is certainly a big time ambassador of the method. p.s another thing to mention for the gossipers: even the shoes on (for the teacher) is a "must" in classic pilates. Now, the fact that Kathy chooses to wear heels, is sth that her excellence & big character allows her, and is only "allowed" to her probably in entire world i guess... :-) p.s 2 pls learn to stick to the substance, and let go of the meaningless things in life. Love authenticity, learn from the best!

There are some basic moves here, but the speed of some of the exercises is beyond beginner level. I wouldn't recommend this video to anyone, let alone a beginner, as there are no proper instructions from the tutor about each exercise.
@seagreentangerine20658 жыл бұрын
With respect, my first brilliant Pilates tutor (Amy of Everybody Pilates) worked me exactly like this (after I'd learnt correct form) and I was 4 stone overweight but had good flexibility. I think this video is brilliant and exactly what Classical Work is like on a reformer if you are a normal healthy person (as the content says).

Wonderful ability seen here! In my opinion this is not a beginners workout . But I guess everybody’s clients are different and the lady didn’t need any instruction but I know many including me who would need more instruction . I'm a Pilates teacher and find this aggressive method or coaching so frustrating. It's too much! Where's the enjoyment and connection? Could go a little slower in between exercises.....this is for beginners? I needed more time in each excercise to catch up, and I was just brushing up on what I had learned on my reformer video(which I can no longer access), so not a total newbie. Also, she gave no instruction on headrests, posture. I rate this only a 5.
