Cool vid! thank you! I use a long bamboo stick to check if the bottom soil is dry or moist, before I water. I make sure that it is dry before watering to avoid root-rot or overwatering. At the beginning of spring, when they wake-up, I put Espoma plant food and top off a bit of compost on top, water a bit, and that's it. Then, water it whenever it needs it.

I always cut the tip at a 45 degree angle before allowing it to dry out. Then dip in water and root hormone powder. Then plant. Cutting at an angle allows more surface area for root growth.

That's it, Im subbing. Your channel helped my petunias survive the summer and is helping my pansies flower in winter. I'm going to propagate a frangipani nearer spring (i guess from your video that's better than now, middle of winter). Your videos are always chock full of information. You always show us CLEARLY, precisely what to do. Thanks so much for taking the time to adjust the camera so us newbies can see how it's done.

Thank you for the Sub :) you can take the cutting of the plumeria now... let it callus for a few weeks.. maybe even up to 2 months... then pot it up... an early start can be helpful... they can take a while to get started. lots of warmth and light really helps the process

I got a plumeria cutting from Disney World in Florida and they said put it in a pot with sand, water weekly until the leaves appear. Well it took a couple months for one leaf to appear and now it's September and almost time to bring it inside. I hope to keep it alive all winter inside.

I'm from Lake Charles, LA where we enjoy a solidly subtropical climate. Maybe only a handful of light freezes 28-32 degrees per winter with no snow and hot humid summers. We are not quite warm enough however to plant them outside in the ground. I've have 4 plumeria cuttings for a couple of months now that I got from a vendor off of Etsy. They're in clear plastic cups so I can keep the soil moist from holes I've drilled in the sides. A couple have already leafed out and another is putting out an inflow stalk that hasn't even blossomed yet. I don't think that one has put out roots yet. I'm having a hard time with making a decision to cut off the inflow! I know it hasn't put out any anchoring roots b/c I can lift the cutting out of the cup without resistance. You're saying I should cuff it off to give the cutting energy to put out roots first??? Great channel. I enjoy it when you teach about plumerias. 😉
@PlantzNThings

You are so lucky to live in a warmer climate. Having a longer growing season really helps. Yes , it hurts to cut an inflow but because it's a new uprooted cutting you want it to focus its energy on growing roots... if you leave the inflow on... it might root.. but what will usually happen is it focuses its energy on the flower to reproduce.. and not roots

Hello Bill, one of my 6 ft tall plumeria's branches ripped off the main stem/trunk after my cat tried to jump on it. It had already leafed out beautifully. I laid the branch out to callus over and forgot about it. A month in a half later, here in September, I was wondering if it was too late to place the ripped ranch in a seed starting /orchid mix that you talk about in this video? It looks pretty good, a little shriveled and the leaves are still on it. THANK YOU BILL, I appreciate your knowledge :)

Hi I live in Spain and I love Plumerias, or Frangipani as they tend to be called! I enjoyed your video and am about to plant two more cuttings in pots. I already have two plants which grow very well in large pots but I didn't have great success when I tried planted another one in the ground...maybe too cold or damp and it rotted. I like the idea of adding surplus orchid growing material so I'll try that right now! Hasta luego!! Jacqui

What a thorough video! Thanks Bill! My mom and I planted four cuttings last year and after a year, my mom's plants look fatter and more luscious than mine. She has them in a bigger pot than me. I wonder if that's the reason why hers are bigger. They are all in my greenhouse now but mine lost all their leaves and my mom's plumerias are thriving. Haha figures.

Since you live in Canada, but I live in Southern California.... I planted 30 cuttings from my neighbors tree in May, leaving them outside. I wish I had seen your videos first...I let them flower, which they all did profusely and I was so happy to see them thrive.... Until I saw your video about if they flower they will not focus on their root system. I will have more warmer days than you have in Canada so I am wondering what risk my cuttings have of not developing an adequate root system... and what can I do to help them. Also should I put them in the ground or leave in pots for the winter? Or build a greenhouse for them this year? We have 80 degree weather sporatically all winter long so am afraid of a greenhouse......With a couple days of frost and lots of nights at 40-50 degrees. Great videos! Thank you!

+Ann of PA lol... I'm glad you at least tried to grow an orchid...lol.. rescue shelf might not be the best place for a beginner to start...lol.. as for the plumerias... if you can find a cutting that would be the nicest way to start simply because it will be faster to bloom... Seeds I found are VERY easy to sprout and the flowers might not be true to the parent flower.. you might have many colour variations. and buying seeds are very inexpensive.

I cut some plumerias and put them in wet soil right away. They started growing, but after 4 weeks they tapered off. I pulled one out of the soil and there was no roots started. Is this bcz i didnt let them dry (close bottom cut off) first? Did they just suck water from bottom and fiz out? I have since pulled them out and put them on the concrete to dry. Do you think they will start up again if i put them in soil?

+Bryan 212 to be honest these are still very much a mystery to me as well... I have a few cuttings that do the exact same thing.... they do want to dry down... they are sensitive to rot.... they also have a slow and weak root system to start... so it's best not to keep checking on their development... could set them back further.

If you are planting them outside and its warm... they will do fine... if they are inside and they don't gave adequate light and warmth they will either not do much or they will stretch

How long does it take for the plumeria plant to root?
@PlantzNThings
@PlantzNThings 7 жыл бұрын
it can take a few months. some are faster than others... they have very weak root systems so try not to tug on them to check... this can slow the process.

Well easy solution. Ask her what she's doing and copy it to a t. You know what they say. Moms are always right.😅

Why are you adding bark to your mix? Are you not aware that it will tie up nitrogen in the mix reducing the availability to your plumeria plant? I would have used a fertilizer high in nitrogen to promote growth and high in potassium to promote root development instead of a fertilizer which contains double the amount of phosphorus which as you said promotes flowering and at this point is contrary to the objective of getting your cutting established.

Thanks a lot for the video ... but I am just not sure for a particular point. You said that we have to put in fairly deep but I've heard so many times that plumeria cuttings are creating roots from the wound and not really from up on the branch:/ Also I thought that burying it too much would cause rot on the buried portion of the wood 🤔 I've tried for the first time a plumeria rooting this winter the pictures are on IG if you wish to visit : jungle_parisienne Thank you so much for your videos and precious advices 😊

Newbie here- I have a plumeria and I'm not sure what to do for it... it's about 3 foot single stem with 3 x 12 inch fingers at the top. One of the stems tip is black and cracked. I doubt it's going to bloom any and I'm worried it will kill the rest of the plant. I dont want to cut the whole finger off because it will make the plant look funny. Is there something I can do to trim and save this finger on the plant?
@PlantzNThings
@PlantzNThings 5 жыл бұрын
you can trim off the blackened area you can then dust on some ground cinnamon to protect from any more fungal issues... that section might produce another new growth point

Honey, what r u doing dude?!?! C'mon really?!?! m sorry but u have no idea what your talking about lol That pellet fertalize always needs to be added to bottom 1/4 of dirt mix at bottom of pot prior to planting anything in it and kept at bottom of the pot. Soak that well to turn the pelets on so to speak so theyre teady to do theyre job as a time relesed formula. As per the contsiner will instruct u to do also. Non premnoistened pellets can burn the plant and makes it really unpenetradle and negates from its purpose of long acting fertalizer. ALSO VERY IMPORTANT . ..Never put compostable material in the dirt mix that plumerias are going in. Creates potential for mildew, bacteria and really aids in root rot. U want to use something inorganic that can stay dry and actually used as drainage and work holes in the firt dydtem whuch woot chips and papertowles dont. they break down and turn to moosh making holes of damp fungus or bacteria slush that doesnt drain or dry. Use inorganic objects such as clay pot peices, Rocks etc. Papertowl at bottom of pot is ridiculously horrible gardening etiquete. Use rocks dufus. Also always use a root hormone on plumeria clippings also theyre from a humid climate so its good to lightly water also with b12 suspension when planting the clipping to aid in initial moisture since you won't be watering them often or ever depending on where your at! u clearly are amateur why are u giving such bad info to people here looking for helpful assistance when plumerias can be extremely difficult to start for a newbie. This is a bad bad video. People, plz dont actually listen to this shmuck. thanks
