I've been playing around with this over the past week and it's really amazing. There are a couple things that still need some attention, with sound being a big one. Directional sound puts everything in one ear rather than balancing it like real life, so you'll hear the cabinet to your left 100% in your left ear and the one to your right 100% in your right ear while you're playing a game. Audio from other games is also way too loud and either the game your playing should have its volume turned up when you load it, or all other demos on other cabinets should have their volumes reduced. There are times when I can barely hear the game I'm playing and the cabinets next to me are blasting. I'd also love to see him add some sports games, since there are some pretty big omissions. NBA Jam being one of them. But still, this is an incredible experience and I look forward to seeing how it develops.

Yep agreed - All the sound issues you describe have been raised with Halfdeck. However we can't be sure when he may make changes in that space. This is like a massive upgraded version of the old 3D Arcade / Emulaxian Front End for MAME and Visual Pinball, of which I've used for years, but sadly is rather cryptic and difficult to use. This VR Arcade Time Capsule is the logical and next step in being "in the Matrix" and playing old school arcade games that the old 3D Arcade FE tried to do.😊

I run it using an Oculus Rift S. You need XInput compatible controllers to play the games. There IS keyboard input but only the keys WASD and ZXCV, for Up, Left, Down, Right and Button1, Button2, Coin, Start. A PS4 controller can be set up using Steam if you add RetroVRArcade to Steam and use the Steam Input setup.

I did find that if you are using virtual desktop's vr runtime you can use the touch pads via emulated gamepad and easily switch between the 2

I'm using a HP Reverb G2 and recording the desktop view. The two views (both in headset and on the desktop) are virtually the same in quality. The Quest 3 has similar resolution and other benefits. 👍

Maybe It's only my case, when I pushed xbox key(which is designated by me) there's several games menu turned over, for example at Pasadena Level: Exerion, Galaga by midway, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, these are upside down and Jungle King's menu turned left 90 degree. I'm not sure it's only me or everbodys case but It's OK upside down for me tho becasue I've already finished key setting suitable for me.:)

@@jjury7427 OK, I've seen a post by the developer that some of the game screens are rotated in-game and therefore the mame menus will be rotated and/or upside down etc as a side effect of way he has implemented the screens. So yes, at the moment it is something we will have to deal with by turning our heads, doing hand stands etc... 🤪

Yes it is PCVR only. If you don't have a suitable PC to link to then you could check out some cloud pc services. Some people have apparently used cloud PC services to run remotely and streamed to their Quest devices. They are not reporting unacceptable lag however it may impact your experience.

I set up NRAN all modded with my own fave games and posters (see the video on my channel). Before I try this is the arcade itself moddable? I want to build my own rooms with my own decor. I like neon 80s vibe of NRAN, this arcade looks too clean for my taste. Annoying it has the same issue as NRAN in that you can't navigate the arcade with an arcade stick, but have to swop to your vr controllers.

It's PCVR running on Windows. You can use with Quest 2, tethered through Virtual Desktop ideally with a Windows PC. However you might get it working through mac parallels or similar on a M1 or higher mac. Not sure if that will actually work or what the performance might be. It appears it may be possible at least in principle.

You need to 'grab' the screen with your VR controller and the mame game rom will then load. You can then insert coins and play with your attached x-input controller (e.g. Arcade stick, X-Box controller etc) Note, the attract screens you see on all the arcades are just video files. You need to also have the correct roms downloaded as mentioned in the video, otherwise the game won't start even if you grab the screen.

Do you get a black screen, or it just doesn't start? If it's a black screen the roms are likely incorrect or missing. If it is not starting you aren't 'grabbing' the machine with the VR controller properly. You can grab the machine anywhere and it will start the game.

You'll need to post over at the developer (Halfdeck's) Discord Server (link in the description) post your problem in the #need-help channel and someone should be able to assist. I have not seen this issue so I can't assist you directly any further. Grabbing the machine should just work and you should either get the game running or black screen with missing or bad rom. You shouldn't just get nothing. Cheers.

I cant get the roms to work, ive got the the correct set of roms, 0.139 non merged, I've tested them on MAME 2010 and they work fine, but in VR i keep getting the fatal error message whenever i try to play it.

Did you test the roms in retroarch using the mame2010 libretro core? ATC uses that core not the standalone mame executable. Also when are you getting the fatal error, is it is when you grab a game cabinet to start it? if so then your roms are incorrect/missing.

Yeah, it was my fault, I put the wrong ROMS in the folder, when I added the correct ones I messed up and created a new ROMS folder instead of replacing the wrong ones. All sorted now though and it's working fine now@@SpaciesArcade

It is a Windows PCVR program. Having said that, it is conceptually possible to run it via parallels on the mac M1 or higher or via a cloud PC service that supports your headset (such as the Quest 3 for example).

The only way to get a fatal error when grabbing a machine to start the game is because your roms are incorrect or missing. The roms must be from the mame2010 (0.139) set. If they have the same filenames and are from a different set you will get the Fatal error.

@@SpaciesArcade I have the 0.139 romset unmerged just like the instructions call for. I can run them all in retroarch independent from the time capsule and can confirm they all work. I’m putting them all in the specified rpm folder all still zipped. The error reads Fatal error Build/++ue4/sync/engine/source/runtime/private/windows/launchwindows.cpp [line95] Source crt invalid parameter detected Expression unknown function unknown file unknown line 0 Any ideas? Am I just missing something stupid or is something really broken here🤷🏻

Did you install the roms? If so, you may have the wrong game rom version. On my discord server I have a copy of a spreadsheet with the working rom names and checksums made by VolPTeK - you can always check that out if you get stuck.

This is amazing, great tutorial. However, for the life if me, I can't figure out how to get the Neo Geo games working. I put the zip in the ROMs folder. I tried a different onea, but still nothing. Everything else is magnificent. Any ideas what might be the issue?

Each Neogeo game has its own game rom. Make sure you have the correct game rom for each neogeo game that you want to play. In addition to the game roms you need one neogeo rom which all the neogeo games share. All the individual game roms plus the neogeo rom should all be in their individual zipped files and stored in the roms folder. If you do this and you still can't get a game to work then either your game rom is incorrect or your shared neogeo rom is incorrect. Make sure you are using 2010 unmerged mame roms.

Depends, if you don't have the neogeo file only neogeo based games in the arcade won't work. All others should work. If they are not working you probably have the wrong set. As per the video you need unmerged mame 2010 roms. Cheers

@@generalshakewell I would try lowering the game's super sampling (not sure what you're using, but for Quest I think there's a setting on the Oculus App) and checking the game's frame time to make sure it's not too high. For example, if your headset's doing 90Hz, aim for 11ms or less, and for 72hz, 13ms or less. If you're doing 120hz, 8ms or less. I have a 1080ti and a Reverb G2 so I had to downsample using WMR OpenXR tool to 50% to hit ideal frame time.

What you are suggesting are new Features not Fixes! The developer is only interested in ATC being in VR. There are no plans or desire for a 2d version. Pinball is unlikely to be included due to the complexities of emulating pinball where programs like VPX-VR have taken decades to develop realistic emulation and modelling. Any integration with other applications like VPX have their own technical challenges and are therefore unlikely. I would love to see pinball myself as well, but yeah it is very unlikely.
