[Verse 1] Getting lost singing their song Caught up in all I've done It's all I know, but not what I need Cut by my love, cut till I bleed [Chorus] So I want to run to your shelter tonight Run to the shelter tonight United in silent resistance Of bowing to false kings So let me run to your shelter tonight Run from this meaningless pantomime I'll swallow my pride, give up the pretence Of bowing to false kings [Verse 2] Bought their smiles, liquid and smooth Took their words for the truth Edge of light and shade My broken soul once more enslaved [Chorus] So I want to run to your shelter tonight Run to the shelter tonight United in silent resistance Of bowing to false kings So let me run to your shelter tonight Run from this meaningless pantomime I see the false kings I see that all this Must end [Bridge] When there's no love in my embrace Cold blood runs through my veins If I soar without grace Do I still soar? I need the love in your embrace Open doors, brand new ways End my wars and erase And I'm yours [Chorus] So I want to run to your shelter tonight Run to the shelter tonight United in silent resistance Of bowing to false kings So let me run to your shelter tonight Run from this meaningless pantomime I'll swallow my pride, give up the pretence [Outro] Yes, I wined and, and I dined on, on that cyanide ...

@@50Pooja Well, some don't like Clearview and Ultraviolet. I gotta say, I only like 5 or so songs at most from Clearview and only this one from Ultraviolet (I guess), but that doesn't make their music any worse. And if one can trust the theory about the connected lyrics and albums someone described here, the new album's mood only makes sense. Great song. I've been pondering what it, and especially the video, means, mainly because the scary eye creeped me out and I wanted to know why they would include something like that. At first I took the references to previous videos as an anniversary thing, since this year marks the band's 15th anniversary, but then I realized that the commenter who said that False Kings, Daze, Lift and Carnival of Rust are all the same, was right. False Kings shares the theme of these songs and I see an especially strong connection to Carnival of Rust and Daze. All three are about chasing empty satisfactions, being lured by false promises, mistaking superficial things for freedom and happiness, and losing what truly matters: the ability to love and to have someone who loves you in return. CoR lamented this while Daze reveled in the self-destructive denial, and False Kings is pushed and pulled back and forth between these. In the first verse there is the realization that these empty, shallow things (the False Kings you bow to) are not what you truly need, there is the intent to run from it and seek out the shelter provided by love. I think the woman in the red dress is not really present and just a ghost, a memory, the one whose love and shelter was lost and is still missed. At the poker table she makes the moth symbol from Lift. A reminder that he did not follow the one who could make his spirit fly. He failed to escape from the rat race in Lift, the day to day circles, the drama. Not doing what truly makes him free and happy. The Temple of Thought album art on the cards can have two meanings: one, reference the relationship that turned dysfunctional and eventually ended, and that this is the reason why it did not last. Two, symbolize the angel/saint and demon duality you also see in the video with the scarred face and white eyeball. Both are within us and our choices make on or the other stronger. After the first chorus he lapses. The corruption caused by that life of meaningless thrills, focusing on money and stuff you can buy, rears its head. It's not so easy to break away from it, especially when you've already lost so much because of the choices you've made, the things you've done. When it has twisted your view of the world and left you without purpose. Easier to give in to that part of yourself that enjoys it, to keep living in that Daze. The chessboard, of course, references the Clearview album. When he tries to shake off the distortion and confusion, get a moment of respite to get a clearer view of things, it only reveals the checkmate. He's been played by the smooth smiles, the red cape and foil, and by the time he realizes and wants it to end, he has already lost. The love in his life is gone, his ability to love is gone, gestures of love like an embrace have been robbed of their meaning and become empty. In the video he refuses to accept his defeat, however. Maybe he can still move away from the loveless demon within himself and turn things around his life. One thing I still do not understand is the line "united in silent resistance of bowing to False Kings". I am interpreting the act of bowing to false kings as chasing these empty satisfactions, being fooled by the promises of what you're being sold. So how is that a form of resistance? If it was about resisting that way of living, would it not be "resistance against bowing to false kings"?
@KanohiVahi6 жыл бұрын
Dutchess Man this interpretation is amazing. You really put your heart in it! But I have to say that while I was reading further and further it made me feel this scary emptiness growing inside me all the time the further I got in your text. Feels like you just described my past life. Man, I don't know what to feel..
@xmoonblossom6 жыл бұрын
www.reddit.com/r/poetsofthefall/comments/7ur3z4/what_is_your_take_on_the_meaning_of_false_kings/ Maybe this interpretation can help you with the line you dont unterstand. I think its another deep way to interpret this song.
@davidkyo19856 жыл бұрын
To your last question, I think they meant silently resisting the act of bowing itself, that is, they will no longer please the "false kings". The false kings are basically misguiding outside forces (power, money, social status or any initially external and superficial influence that drives you obsessed) that subtly start to skew your priorities in life and eventually make you lose your edge - unless you're very careful, that is. (This was on the band's FB page recently, just in more words. I like this because it promotes introspection, which is a rare virtue.)
@Khemiri94 жыл бұрын
Dutchess I think the bowing is 'forced' because there's no other option hence the 'silent resistance'

All those references to previous Poets of the Fall work made me happy. And dear God is this an amazing song. It has such an amazing feel to it. I can't wait for the new album. I always look forward to the release of poets albums. I'll be listening the day it comes out for sure.

@@thebananaguardian_ If you're looking for Poets in Part 1, You won't find any of their music, but you will find two of the members there! Marko himself played as Vladimir Lem while Olli played as Vinnie Gognitti. In Part 2, their debut single, "Late Goodbye" can be heard throughout the game and in the credits. This and Lift would become their breakout songs.
