​@Rico Thampaty It's funny that you should mention that, because despite the eventual success of the invasion of Georgia it is widely considered to be a dismal performance by the Russian armed forces. Many of the shortcomings identified in that war are the exact same reasons Russia is now once again performing horribly in Ukraine: lack of encrypted communications, overly rigid and hierarchical command structure, massive institutional corruption, poor maintenance practices, poor coordination between service branches, poor performance by the Air Force, etc. etc. All these things were already known after the 2008 war. Reports were written about it, 'reforms' were anounced, but apparently nothing changed because the exact same problems remain. Because let's be real, if the Russian armed forces really were as capable as we all thought pre-invasion they would have had this war wrapped up months ago. But instead we are almost a year into the war and Russia is on the defensive along most of the frontline.

As has been mentioned these soldiers are with men and women from their home towns. Units built this way are far more cohesive. It was true in the American Civil War and other conflicts where the bond of fellowship overcame the heat of battle. The OP describes that these guys are Ukrainian SF soldiers encountering a well-concealed Russian unit in trenches ("maskirovka" or something) because of how well they work together and cover each other. They expected around 5-10 russians there, but it were more and was backed up by a russian T90 tank too, cause of that they retreated. The guy running at 4:59 was the guy the furthest away and was spotted in the same time he spotted the trenches. It doesnt look like, but the mission was a success, everyone made it back and they found the location of the russian trenches. Probably very soon a target of drones and/or artillery.

that legion in the woods were lucky they werent wiped out they came across a russian position dug in with a tank so they had to back away quickly as there was serious gunfire coming at them from that concealed position plus the tank started firing aswell and woods provided poor cover , the legion operated at a pace alright retreating wisely
