In this video we look at Snookers in Pool. Using practical examples we look at how to set up a snooker and considerations in making sure the shot is successful. We also look at escaping a snooker and making sure that we leave the cue ball in a safe position. Finally we discuss tactics when escaping the snooker is very risky on not even possible. We look at the deliberate foul and how we can use it to our advantage.
The shots are carried out on a 7ft UK 8 ball table.

Great vidéo once again and great content. Your training exercices really do help improving my game. In this video you talk about snookers in world rules, but what about blackball rules, where you cannot play deliberate fouls (in reference to your propositon @5:09 ), any tips ?

Thanks, glad you enjoy the videos. Unfortunately I don't play blackball so I have no real expertise to advise on that. As I understand it, deliberate fouls result in a loss of frame, is that correct? Clearly in that case you couldn't do what I suggest @5:09 I guess in that case you have no option but to attempt to escape the snooker. If that is the case I would say that playing it as gently as possible is your best option. That way you are trying to hit the yellow but taking care not to free up the two reds at the same time. Maybe someone who plays blackball might be able to give other suggestions in the comments?
@MamouSimo

@@PoolSchool That's right, it's loss of frame. Yes I guess that's the only less risky possible shot. Keep up with your work. I think having all the practices you suggest united in one video or any other format would be of great help. Cheers,

If the balls at 5:09 had been in the same position at 3:52 (2 reds on the yellow change positions), then a dead weight 2 cushion may have been an approach. Also from the same shot with pace could have covered the bag with some luck
@hxduck
@hxduck 4 жыл бұрын
Yep, the only two options. Deadweight is my choice though. Total snooker so no need to know if that yellow is on the cushion either. Also forces them to use their free shot to develop their reds.
@pooldog7602

Just a minor niggle - please reset the balls in the same positions to be consistent, because there were different possible outcomes with the resets - you can use those little paper dots to mark where the balls were originally. At 2:43 the yellow ball is lower than at the reset at 3:16 - nothing major here At 3:38 the reds surrounding the yellow ball allow for an escape off two side cushions (I think you should have shown how to get out of that too) but in the reset at 4:35 those reds totally changed. Apart from that, thanks for another good video
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool 4 жыл бұрын
Apologies. Yes I probably should have taken more care to reset them the same. The reason I probably didn't pay particular attention to it is because of the point I was trying to make about not attempting to get out of the snooker if it's really difficult, because there is a high chance of failure. I think that point has been missed by a few people. I think the issue is that I play world rules and some of my videos (this one in particular) are aimed at players playing those rules. I appreciate that in blackball rules the deliberate foul is not an option. The whole point it that even with the balls in slightly different positions it is a difficult snooker to escape from. Yes you can escape from it but you need to weigh up the chances of success. My videos are also aimed at beginners and my advice is that if there is a high chance of missing the snooker, it's not worth going for it. The deliberate foul allows us to make life difficult for our opponent instead.
@pooldog7602
@pooldog7602 4 жыл бұрын
@@PoolSchool No need to apologise - I did understand the point being made and I also assumed at the time that that was the reason the reset wasn't really exact. I just think it comes over better when reset the same way.

@@PoolSchool hey dude, i always check your vids out for inspiration and they have helped greatly in winning games. One thing i wanted to ask in relation to the deliberate foul...could they not just have ball in hand after the foul rather than them having to be tight to their own ball?

Jon Stevens thanks. No not in world rules. As long as you don’t leave a foul snooker it is only two shots from where the cue ball ends up. You only have ball in hand if you can’t see both sides of one of your own balls.

What situations do you play a tactical foul in world rules ?
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool 4 жыл бұрын
There can be lots of situations and I'm actually going to be making a video about it. One situation is like in this video where you are snookered an know your chances of escape are very slim. You then roll up to an opponents ball effectively giving them nothing on their first shot so they have to waste it. An other situation might be if your opponent has a pocket covered with your ball tight behind. You might want to pot their ball so that you can take control of the pocket. You would only do this though if they were unlikely to then use their two shots to clear up. It might be done early in a game if they still have several balls tied up.

Also when they're only one or two away from the black and you have no easy clearance. I like to snooker for two or three shots and throw my opponents momentum. At best it changes the pace of the game at worst I hold onto the life boat a little bit longer...It's good just to think differently sometimes too.

How many tactical fouls can you play in a row ?
@PoolSchool

C Bing as many as you want. The only exception is if both players fail to make contact with an object ball for three consecutive shots, then the referee will call a stalemate and the game will be started again with the same player breaking.

What I want to know is: In english pool world rules if a player on the black which is over the pocket but unable to pot it because an opponents ball is covering the ball so would not be able to put the black without fouling in the process therefore losing the frame. They purposely foul as they cannot go for the black at this point so you have 2 shots. You have say 4 balls left but also purposely fould on your 2nd shot as you also cant finish because your last ball is covering the black over the pocket which means you will likely pot
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool 4 жыл бұрын
daniel ali in this situation the person who had a few colours left would have to use their two shots to try and move the ball blocking the black. This is because of the “foul snooker” rule. If they simply fouled and left the ball covering the black, then it would be a foul snooker because the opponent wouldn’t be able to see both sides of the black. When in a foul snooker you are allowed to nominate an opponent’s ball, so they would simply nominate the ball covering the black, hit that and pot the black. Hope that makes sense?

@@PoolSchool thanks for the reply. Yeh this is what I was told was the rule here but thought they must be wrong about this. This seems stupid then that the other player can continue to just deliberately foul every shot and I am forced to have to clear my balls and am the one who will ultimately be forced to try and solve that last ball/black issue when the other player can just deliberate foul but I cannot. Even though it wasnt because of the shot I just took makeing this situation the rule still counts? Because I thought it was only if the shot you just took means the other player is unable to make a shot because they cannot see either side of their ball. If they had balls before this and chose to pot them all leaveing them in this situation is that not their mistake?
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool 4 жыл бұрын
@@danielali6571 Your right, the player on the black ball is in complete control and as you suggest can continue to foul forcing their opponent to try and resolve the situation. If they potted a few balls first and left the black covered by their opponents ball then they would just play a foul leaving the same situation. If the player with the ball covering the black makes any sort of foul, then it is a foul snooker. What tends to happen here if both players are aware of the rules, is that a stalemate ensues. The player on the black will just foul on every shot and the player with balls left will just play legal shots (without potting anything) so that they don't leave a foul snooker. This could go on forever but the player on the black has another option. Instead of just playing any old foul they can start to pot their opponents balls. If they continue to do this then eventually their opponent will only be left with the ball blocking the black. They will then be forced to try and use their two shots to move the ball because otherwise they will leave a foul snooker. It doesn't matter how this situation arises but once it does the player on the black is in the driving seat (unless of course their opponent successfully gets their ball out with their first shot and pots it with their second!)

@@PoolSchool thanks a lot for that thorough explanation that really helps as I was unable to find a clear video explaining these kind of rules or understand fully the rule by reading so thanks a lot for clearing that up. I do find the deliberate foul rule such a stupid rule especially when it is clearly 100% deliberate for example here if the opposite player started to pot my balls forcing me to eventually try and play the shot mentioned at the end it seems stupid that you are allowed to do this. Is there no limit to the number of deliberate fouls they can commit in a row? I heard if you both do 3 in a row each then it becomes a re rack is that true but they can do however many they want in a row? Your answer helps me a lot. That means then if someone is down to the black and I had balls remaining it's not the best to cover the black with one of my balls then as I have to be able to get out of that situation in the end anyway so will still ne pretty stuck. As my example it was almost impossible for me to make a shot on the last ball without hitting the black in aswell hence why I could not and did a deliberate foul as I was unaware of this rule here
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool 4 жыл бұрын
That's almost correct but the rule is a little more specific than that. A Stalemate is called is both players play 3 shots in succession where the cue ball fails to hit an object ball. So this is 3 deliberate fouls each but if the deliberate foul involved hitting an object ball that wouldn't count. As far as one play goes, yes they can make as many consecutive deliberate fouls as they like.
@DynastyHeroes
@DynastyHeroes 3 жыл бұрын
We play with really messed up rules locally we play world rules but you aren't allowed to play deliberate fouls from my understanding which I agree with. I think deliberate fouls shouldn't be allowed in any rules it's ludicrous ofcourse try proving what is a deliberate foul, I feel like the term needs to be more defined. Is smashing into any ball a deliberate foul? You could argue it is. Is hitting the black to put it safe a deliberate foul? Ofcourse. Is potting your opponents ball covering a pocket a deliberate foul? Impossible to prove they did it on purpose. Is hitting the cue ball softly when snookered to not disturb anything a deliberate foul? 50/50 but I dare anyone to prove it was deliberate.
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t particularly like them either but our league plays world rules, deliberate fouls are allowed and there are lots of situations when they are incredibly useful. I agree it does almost feel like cheating when you get some in a snooker and they just tap up behind a ball (effectively wasting you 1st visit) but if it’s in the rules you play you have to be aware of them and know how to use them to your advantage.

Why is the roll up foul not a ball in hand?
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool 4 жыл бұрын
Because this is world rules and it’s only a standard foul which is penalised by 2 shots. In world rules it is only ball in hand if it is a foul snooker. If you roll up to an opponents ball, they can still see both sides of that ball so it is just a standard foul played from where the ball lies.

Personally speaking, playing a deliberately foul where you roll up to their ball is disgusting play. A player did it to me in the league, he potted my ball over the pocket but in the same shot, nestled behind another of my balls on the cushion. In those set of rules you couldn't pick the ball up. I wasn't best pleased I can tell you. I would put it in the same bracket as cheating.
