Its an sf specialized in counterguerrilla and direct action behind enemy lines, in 70's it was the best of the Portuguese military, very effective and violent guys, my grandfather has served in 7th comandos company in Mozambique. They are recognize too in internacional missons like in Afeghanistan by the ISAF commander, Gen. Davids as the best unit he have and called them his "heroes", and more late now in Central African Republic very aplauded by ONU generals. Big hug

Hey man, just to clarify from the begining its only Fuzileiros, they are divided by the recon platoon, assault platoon and other variable work teams. The Fuzileiros are not just an infantry division, they are Specialized Forces but they are also Special Warfare Operators and then inside the Fuzileiros Corps you have the Special Operations Detachment (DAE). Every single Fuzileiro is a different breed in the Portuguese Special Forces, but DAE Operators are something else. BZ to all of these solid rock brothers 💀🇵🇹

The video was showing all of what a "raid" should look like (according to the Fuzileiros). It starts with a tactical insertion of a recon squad, to clear the area, then a small briefing and after you have the amphibious assault and finnaly the raid at the compound. The weapons you saw were the G3 with SPUR kit for primary, glock 17 for secondary and the MG3 :) And all of the guys you saw were Marines or Fuzileiros (same thing just a fancier name) Great content and thank you for the review

Portuguese Marines are one of the 4 special forces in the Portuguese Armed Forces which are Comandos, Rangers, Paratroppers and Marines (fuzileiros). They are not just regular Navy infantry.

Former portuguese marine here. The only guy that was a navy diver in this video was the one wearing multicam at 05:00, the others were all marines. The ones using wetsuits are marines from recon. Also, at least during this deployment when the divers were attached to us, they were more on a EOD role, they were only doing "diver's things" when they were by themselves.

During the NATO's Jupiter 1986 exercises, some USN SEALS were stationed in the Fuzileiros (marines) school in Vale de Zebre. They were invited to join in and train with us and after half an hour later after watching the exercise they refused doing the mud track because it stank like sewage and had all kind of things in it. The officer in charge said we were treating our troops in a inhumane way.

Portuguese SF train in 3 parts, first part is the basic recruit, 2nd part is the SF (specialty) and last part is the sub-specialty, that on Portuguese marines if not mistaken can range from frogman to demo expert or drone operator, but in essence they are marines first. Know a former Portuguese SF operator with courses with all the SF branches (Marines, Comando, Ranger and Airborne) a true soldier to the bone, even spent some years in the French Foreign Legion, the type of person you do not wanna cross 😈

DAE doesn´t use G3, the "Fuzileiros" (Marines) use the G3A4 and modern versions of the G3A3, the DAE use HK G36C, HK416 and HK417, M16A2 and HK MP5 for they´r infantry, then you also have a sniper they use witch is the AI AW 50 and the AI AWM cal. .338 Lapua Magnum. All fo them carry handguns, the DAE uses the Glock 17 (I dont balieve they have changed to the Glock 19 yet), the marines use the G3A4s and G3A3 modernised, also, at 08:04 it´s a MG42, one of the main Machin Guns we use mounted on vehicles, most of the branches now use the modernise SAWs for the infantry. With all being said, even if the DAE actually are shown on the video, it is hard to know who actually is DAE or not due to them maintaining they´r identities fully classified. DAE = Special Operations Detachment (They are similar to US Navy Seals)

Most special operation team around the world dont have that one peace of gear that is what they use, they can use anything. For example if deniability is necessary you can use your enemies weapons(Operation Mar Verde commanded by marine Alpoim Galvão), or you can have very specialized equipment, or just use the weapon you are most proficient in(group need some uniformity, if one train with one all do), for example the Special operations command in the US has an open contract(if you can make it, you can sell to them, they will buy) for anyone that can come up with a NATO round PKM, because the PKM has no equivelent in NATO its super robust and high performing machine gun the has extrordinary low weight for that class of weapon, Special force units love them.

When I was "drafted" for the Portuguese Armed Forces, my presentation was precisely at the Fuzileiros (Marine Corps) headquarters, 5:50, which is located in my town, just South of Lisbon. It's a huge place, in fact the biggest military base in Portugal, that during the monarchy used to belong to the kings and stuff and was one of their hunting places. PS: they do Special Operations, that's why they are heavily equiped. Another sidenote: one of my former Boy Scouts leader was a Commando (special forces unit in the Portuguese Army) in late 80's and early 90's and several times he told me about a conjoined training between them and some unit of the US Army, the American soldiers were impressed by their tactics and how they dealt with all that and if it was a real-world situation the American soldiers would be fucked up. Is it true what he said? I have my doubts...

In terms of infantary the army has the less specialised i would say, but in the army you have specialised units like the "comandos", the Paratroopers and the "tcoe" or most commonly reffered to "rangers de lamego" this last ones being what you in the US refer to Delta Force. they are the ones with the muscle to fight harder. But in the Navy there's mostly specialised troops the "fuzileiros" translated to marines and the "DAE" unit wich is more like your seal teams, this ones preform on the same level as the army ones but on a more amphibious level

He said that one day they just got woken up in the middle of the night, taken to the middle of the Tejo river, dropped in the water with a floater for them to put their clothes on and were asked to return on their own back to base. The Portuguese "Marines", called Fuzileiros, are not an army corp similar to the US marine corps, but more like the US Navy SEALs. They are a special operations force, and as such there are no "marines" or "divers" group. They are Fuzileiros.

The portuguese marine corps is not exactly equivalent to the USMC. Our marines aren't a seperate branch, they're part of the navy. In terms of specialization, they're considered special forces if I remember correctly, in practice imagine something between the USMC and the Navy SEALs. They also have a special detachment, the DAE, which is kinda our equivalent to DEVGRU, our only "elite" group in the sense of it being a special group inside special forces. There's a video of them training with american marines that came out a few years ago, you should check that out too 😉

This is a combination of marine reconnaissance teams and regular platoons. They belong to the navy and have pretty intense training and selection. These would be a combination of regular US Marines and MARSDOC. On the same level, there’s another unit responsible for combating piracy which is Pelotão de Abordagem (~”engagement platoon”). Above those, there is a navy tier 1 unit called DAE which is similar to US navy seal teams (in fact they often train together). Overall equipment in the navy is substantially inferior and old to the army’s. The army updated its gear in 2019, but the navy decided to invest in ships instead.

The guys on the Zodiac or Zebro rubber boats are Portuguese Marines , Fuzileiros , I am from the Class of 83 still remember my Number ... This Unit is the DAE if im not mistaken. You have ti complete Marine school to be a Fuzo=Marine. Then you have to be invited to try their even harder recruitment criteria into this branch and they only pick the best of the best. And of the best of the best picked to try out, only The best of that tiny group enters the Unit. There's a reason many special forces of the world train with these hardasses

Not true at all. Only the army branch uses the FN SCARs. All navy troops, Marines or Fuzileiros included, uses mostly G3A3 (fixed stock) and some G3A4 (telescopic stock); in very small numbers, modded G3 with the Spuhr Kit. The only Fuzileiros not using G3 are the ones operating on DAE (H&K KV is or was the organic rifle and H&K 416A5 - not really sure if they replaced the G36, but my guess is not entirely; in 5.56 they still have the M16A2 and the M4, some with M203 40mm grenade launcher and the lmg H&K MG4; 7.62x51mm are used primarily as DMR, the H&K 417A2 and for sniping the AI AW both in .50 and .338 Lapua Magnum - this is the equiment we know about, but they're known for picking the right gear for each specific mission; almost forgot to mention the Glock 17 Gen5 as sidearm and as sub-machine gun, 9mm, the H&K MP5).

Army Branch are regulars, and "tier 2" sof, commandos and paras (and the Lamego's TOE, but those are "tier one" and usualy use hk-416 as their rifle). I didn't say otherwise. Alas, I said only the Navy branch uses HK G3, including "tier 2" sof Fuzileiros, except those of DAE and others allocated to the Maritime Authority, those use HK-416 as main rifle. The FAP does not have paratroopers since decades ago, were moved to Army branch. And FAP uses HK G3 just for protocol, as real operators like JTAC and NTOP, like "tier 2", (I believe even their MP use HK G-36) uses HK-416 and G-36k/c and CZ BREN 2 respectively. So paratroopers are army troops - not air force ones. Cheers

All of them are FUZILEIROS (Portuguese Navy special force). Fuzileiros also have a specialized unit of divers, but they are used in another kind of missions, not in this one.

They were all marines, except for one guy (a navy diver) that you can see in that part that they are loading their weapons and he has a slight different gear (lighter camouflage) and he’s there only as a EOD for breaching. The guys in the delta river are marines from the reconnaissance platoon. Of course the video is made for show, anyone that has tactical experience and knowledge can see that there are some tactical aspects that don’t make much sense.

Our marines are you navy seals, specific DAE (Destacamento de Ação Especial) It's a special unit inside Fuzileiros (belongs to the portuguese Navy) we still use the G3 and MG3 but the DAE mais orimary weapon is Hk MP5. And Thais a a exibition vídeo of an anphibian assault.

No it is not. We don't even use and never used the HK MG36, none of our Armed Forces branch. The MG36 is chambered in 5.56x45mm; basically a G36 with heavy barrel to be able to keep sustained fire (not even the germans use that crap). That's clearly, on top of the vehicle, a HK MG3 belt fed in 7.62x51mm.

Hi, man! They are marines, that is true, and they look more specialized than a regular infantryman, because our Marines are more akin to a British Marine Commando, or your Force Recon. Their mission and purpose is generally down to raiding actions, amphibious operations, and "assault" roles. It's difficult to know for sure, not knowing the video source personally, but the initial group on the zodiac might have just been a marine detachment. It's unlikely they were the "navy divers" as that most likely refers to the Special Actions Detachment of the Marines (Fuzileiros, or, in English Fusiliers of the Navy), and DAE/SAD is very secretive; I have never seen their faces shown.

Portugal as been all around the world and flighted in every continent. This guys hvae all that background experience when training. U do not want to mess with these guys. Also, do to the lack of resources they're pretty good at make stuff working with almost nothing. I think this is the "regular" fuzileiros corps, because they're been filmed. The special corps , if u see their faces you're dead ... Its not because of them ,its to protect their loved ones

Actually i noticed who they are cause i recognized one of them hes a friend of mine these are fuzileiros i dont know wich unit in specific but they are a unit that saw actual combat with i believe russians one of the members of this unit told me one of them had gotten injured and there was a news report about it they actually fought and at least one of them became injured it was. he told me people dont understand how close they where to russians they would go to a coffee shop in theyr off days and see russian military on offdays as well

if those are marines as u say they are not regular infantry. the name is Fuzileiros and its our navy's special forces. Then you have the diver. an elite force inside fuzileiros. and then u have DAE ("Destacamento de ações especiais" or in english "Special Action Deployment Unit) which are 30 men, the best from the best from the best that incorporate every military specialty and an outstanding psychological strength. They even give formation for your navy seals so they are like US Navy seal, Spetznaz and SAS together all on steroids. No one knows who the 30 men are. Its classified
