As a Native American we all LOVED the movie. It was finally a movie made for us! We get left out a lot from the mainstream culture. Too bad you didn’t like it bc I love your channel! But like I said all of us natives around the country really were so excited for it and I hope there are more movies made for us. Amber Midthunder is a badass native woman.

Regarding Prey: They weren't speaking English. What we heard was English but it was established in the begining that they were speaking their native tongue. This same device was used in the great Judgement at Nuremberg (not a horror film).

I'm currently reading Under the Skin and really intrigued to learn there is a movie adaptation, will have to check that out because I have no idea how they'll make this translate in a visual format without giving early spoilers that are carefully revealed throughout the book 💖

Prey as the best modern Sci Fi movie? No. But it's possibly the best Predator film since the original. I loved the action scenes and cast. Its got some of the most creative fight scenes in the franchise, imo. The bear trap and net deaths were incredible. I loved the lighting and cinematography , too. Some of my favorite scenes were the ones lit by moonlight or torches. Plus the parallels between the Yautja and Naru as solo hunters/fighters was pretty cool. Naru is one of the best final girls ever, imo.

last night i watched a movie called “black bear” starring aubrey plaza and i would LOVE to hear your take on it. if you haven’t seen it, it’s a very atmospheric and sort of artsy drama that almost feels like a psychological thriller without actually having much of any thriller aspects to it, which i just have to admire even though i’m still very confused about the movie. i can’t decide if i like it or not because truthfully i have no idea what it was supposed to have happened in it, but the acting, the score, the cinematography, the dialogue, and basically all of the technical components to it were just utterly fantastic so i feel like it has to have some sort of glue that i just can’t see because it’s too well done to just be lazy open ended writing (or at least im hoping). besides not really understanding it, it was still very entertaining. trigger warning for abuse regarding a pregnancy though. it’s mostly verbal but there is a scene that gets physical and i’m not sure if it was supposed to have been a miscarriage or not but either way it was difficult to watch so keep that in mind in deciding to watch it. would love to know if you have any theories or opinions about this movie!

I also had that feeling of her being super instead of human bc if I was her I'd be scared to death, but I realized that her brother was also very brave when facing the alien, so I think that in their tribe they were the elite warriors/hunters if you will. It was shown when she fought the lion remember? alien, monster or beast they were very brave warriors who can kill them. I love this prequel of the predator this is the best for me, hands down.

I think Prey was a surprise for fans because after the last installment i would imagine it felt hopeless to get a new good predator movie. eventhough it isn't perfect, it's still good enough and a hopeful start for better installments to follow. as someone who isn't a fan of the predator movies, I really like Prey and can't wait for future installments, but I have to agree, it's far from being "the best scifi movie of our time".

Favourite thing I've watch in August is Monsterland (on Crave in Canada). 8 episode, 1 season Anthology (each episode is stand alone, almost more like shorts). Although there are actual monsters, they are all strongly tied to "human monsters". Sometimes getting you to think, who's really the monster? Definitely trigger warnings for each episode. All different ones but the first episode was the darkest so far. Also, filming wise, WOW! Reminds me of Haunting of Hillhouse and that's saying a lot.

I watched a lot of interesting movies in August, but one that caught my attention was one that I watched unpretentiously called Frankenstein Reborn from 2005, I'm a fan of the book so I ended up clicking out of curiosity, when I saw The Asylum logo at the beginning I had a concern but I went to the end and I can say that it was an interesting experience, despite being a B movie it has its qualities, great practical effects and good makeup, it's bizarre to think that years ago this company at least tried to make something decent and with personality, but I believe that after a while they realized that making digital sharks fly is cheaper than good makeup and a minimally coherent script.

Prey is just the best in the entire Predator saga and wow it was so nice. Definitely the best, better than the first one with Arnie imo. Also, based on what the cast said and what Native Americans said about the movie, it seems like it was actually very authentic. Now, I don't know, I just read/heard a lot of people say that it was very well done from that side, like, they had a lot of people on the set to help and I think the director even made sure the staff were Native Americans who want to get into the film industry so he'd help them out by hiring them and helping them on set?

*spoilers for Lamb* I was waiting for the demonic twist to happen in the movie all the way to the end but it never happened. The entire movie was just building up and I just wanted my satanic unholy crumbs but the actual horror was just the looming inevitability of it. So the demon did appear at the very last moment and the movie ended. I actually really liked this, weirdly. Made me rethink of the events of the movie as a whole, and look further into deeper meaning. BUT I STILL WANT THAT VERSION OF THE MOVIE LIKE WE THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS GONNA BE ABOUT!

I've felt like the only one who didn't like Prey, so thanks for being the brave one to come out and say it! lol. It wasn't a bad movie by any means, I liked some shots and some action, but I found nothing very compelling about it. I knew exactly what was going to happen in the end (predicted all the deaths and the final scene/overall story arc) so I really didn't feel any suspense, and the movie a little bit formulaic to the action genre for my taste. I also definitely agree about the main lead, her character was very straight-forward and lacking depth (the actress did great for what she was working with though). Not the worst movie ever, but not the masterpiece people put it out to be (in my opinion). But then again everyone has their own opinion so I see why people like it. Edit: Loved Under the Skin and Resurrection though.

And I’m not trying to be combative or cancel anyone, but there is so much in the film that adds to it. Representation is so important and adds to what it has to say. I think it benefits people to who are not in the community to look to those who are in the community. It rubbed me a weird way that she said it didn’t feel authentic. Leave it to a white woman to say that. Once again not canceling anyone here, just if you’re going to critic something you have to be prepared for critiques of your own work. Look to Johnnie Jae, Vincent Schilling, and Frank Waln for a new perspective about the importance of how the lead and community was depicted.

Very happy and impressed you liked Lamb. Loooooooots of people hated it because it "wasn't a horror movie"...which...it kinda wasn't. It was more a fantasy drama. I think if it was marketed as such, the sheeple (haha pun intended) may have been more receptive. But prolly not...sheeple have a hard time dealing with no background music and long takes. And anything slow or artsy lol such a shame. We can appreciate it tho!!!

I loved Prey, but a lot of what you said about is exactly right. It is one I will continue to visit and enjoy, but it's extremely predictable & felt way more modern than it really should've. Great cast, but Sarii was the real MVP. On the flipside.. I feel like I'm one of the few who really didn't enjoy Orphan first kill other than the performances from Julia Stiles & Isabelle Fuhrman.

are you going to see The Silent Twins? I don't think i've heard you mention or pretty much anyone talk about this movie. It's based on a true story

I really need to catch up on my new movies, I haven't seen any of the ones I'd been planning to! But the best thing I watched in August (excluding Twilight extended edition because even though I hadn't seen it I'd already seen the original) was the new Evil Dead. Alternatively the worst thing I watched was Camp Hell, 0/10 do not recommend.

I'm SO glad that someone shares my opinion about Prey. I honestly cannot for the life of me understand what people see in this film😂 The English dialogue was baffling to me, somebody said "I gotta go take a leak" or something along those lines and that was....A choice. Overall it felt boring, not true to the era and yeah, it was extremely predictable

My theory is Hulu put Prey on their platform because the green blood matches the Hulu logo. I liked it, might be a bit overhyped since the last one sucked so much.

Yeah, Resurrection felt like a more fleshed-out or less ambiguous version of Men. They’re not the same, but for some reason, they’re really comparable to each other.
