Definitely a great new voice actor. Tophs original VAs voice has, somehow, gotten higher over the years. I dont think she could pull off an older Toph (she cant even do a good young Toph anymore, because her voice is too high)

Toph and Korra's personalities clash so well. People give Korra so much crap but everything from Amon to Zaheer happened in less than a year, 6 months if I remember correctly.

I just noticed an interesting parallel for the first time. Zaheer to the Earth Queen before killing her: "You think freedom is something that you can give or take on a whim, but to your people it's just as essential as air." Bolin arguing with Mako: "I'm gonna go back to my awesome train where we bring freedom wherever we go." IDK I just thought it was interesting

You're right dude! It's very interesting because it's a commentary on how freedom is basic and a human right for someone like Bolin, even though he does not realize the implications of the construction of the empire, which is the promise of false freedom. It really shows how well thought out both seasons are and it's noticeable how both were planned together

"You don't get better so you can't work so you won't get hurt again" it's such a natural response to trauma that most people don't even realize they're doing it and can even be traced down to childhood in some cases While this is the biggest "Korra and (villain in turn) are similar", it's definitely not the first time this has been brought up, since Season 1 Tarloq addressed it and even back in the day I remember some conversations on the fact in the fandom, I wonder what do you have to say on the fact, and what characteristics of each villain can you trace back to Korra? Prince Wu, he either gets all the baes or he is the babe, there's no middle ground apparently Your GF is awesome! She definitely should come back for future videos, at least in the season 4 discussion/tier list and the Legend of Korra final thoughts

I agree, this is so psychologically rich I'm amazed I'm seeing this in Korra, this is one of the most adult storylines in the Avatarverse. I'll have to keep watching to see what similarities I may find between Korra and Kuvira, cuz it's damn interesting that was brought up by Bolin 👀🙌🏻 Hahahaha Wu is one of a kind. I would love if you could react to She-ra and The Princesses Of Power after Korra. Its advertised as a “little girl show” however it has complex characters and storylines and nice worldbuilding. Season 1 gets a bit kiddy sometimes however the other 4 seasons are much more serious, you’d love it. Its a remake of the 80’s (?) show She-ra and The Princess Of Power. The show also has great representation.

A great episode, great reaction and great editing! Along with the musical clues, the voice acting is really on point in this one; Zelda Williams (Kuvira), Sunil Malhotra (Wu) and the late Philece Sampler (Toph) did amazing jobs in portraying their characters on screen, especially the latter since she somehow sounds exactly how you would expect a senior Toph would! And I am with Jime on this one; maybe you can dislike Prince Wu, but you cannot really hate him. (And you should definitely convince her to see Star Wars!) Also, it is interesting you mention politics since apparently this episode was supposed to have even more of it; the original script included a meeting between Suyin and the world leaders to discuss Kuvira's power grab but it got cut out. Unintentional, but I could not comment sooner so I thought it would be apt to praise a couple reacting together on Valentine's Day (at least in my timezone at the moment). Jime should definitely stay for the rest of Book 4, moreover since she has seen it and could provide interesting input about re-watching it but also since good couple dynamics are always a fun to watch! If you want another good example, I highly recommend you #TBRSchmitt, one of the most charming and nicest people making reactions on KZbin. Keep up the good work!

Remember what tarlok said to korra ? He said something on the lines korra being similar to him some one who is ready to take extreme measures to get what they want? Korra immediately brushed off and pushed the conversation resulting in the fight. I never read the kuvira is basically just like korra line like oh you are similar to me . I think it's most likely parallel to what tarlok was saying. They both are stubborn in what they believe sometimes to the point where they sound like it's going my way or nothing else. Remember when korra talked to that airbender and tried to force him. Sadly you won't see this in the show because nickledon is being screw job and cutting their budget. But it's shown in the comics both korra and kuvira have lot more power than normal child would have for their age. That's about it I wanna say you'll find more about these 2 characters by the end of this season. I just want to clarify this because lot of people misread this line of them being similar. So just wanna say how I interpreted it. Also bring your gf to all reactions of s4 she really brings lot more energy into this reactions

I really wanna see them interacting and see those parallels, if that's true, then I think it brings full circle ideas from the first season and thus makes it much more valuable and rewarding on a rewatch. Okay you and your girl doing reactions is amazing!! The reactions is so hilarious. The side eyes and tea sips!! The quips!! Y’all should definitely do more reacts together. Also your reaction to Wu is so relatable. I can’t stand him either but also, you kind of get used to him. Not you getting scared of Eska!! Lmao!! One of the things I love in this episode is that she is acting just like she was with Aang. But while Aang didn’t respond to it, Korra keeps getting back up and is responding to it. It’s kind of awesome that you can see just how someone can’t relate to that kind of training but seeing someone else be excited to be in this kind of training. Korra in the last episode wouldnt talk to someone at all, except for one letter. While Korra has been with Toph she’s already talking about she’s feels out of sync and off step. It’s a step I don’t think even she realizes she’s taking. What I find interesting about Kuvira is that she’s not wrong in a sense about what she’s been saying. The earth kingdom has been corrupt as hell for decades and the earth kingdom needs structure and guidance. The leaders of the world want to send advisors to rule and have someone incompetent in place for the earth kingdom and it’ll just continue the cycle of corruption. When Kuvira told Su that she didn’t want to help the earth kingdom and just hide, she’s not wrong. (It’s also another one of the reasons I don’t like Su, lol) She has the means to help but doesn’t. While Kuvira methods are wrong her points weren’t. It’s interesting to see how they portray such good points but in such horrible situations and how like you said people root for these methods like it all okay when it isn’t. Awesome reaction like always!!

Great summary of observations! Reading it, I realized that I missed how both the world leaders and Kuvira want their own version of ''order'' in the Earth Kingdom, probably to the detriment of its inhabitants. Too bad the scene of Suyin meeting with the world leaders was cut out as it would show their reactions (and maybe solutions? Diplomacy? Sanctions?) to Kuvira's power grab.

@@mariopenavic8573 yea I’ve always thought it was interesting that they constantly showed Raiko buttering up to Wu but never a conversation with the advisors about the Earth Kingdom. Idk if it was supposed to be subtle or not, but it does do a good job of showing how they just want a puppet on the throne that they can control

@@darholland3566 Thank you for replying. Exactly that! However, I doubt they all just reacted the same way. Probably too subtle for me when I watched it the first time or maybe I am reading too much into it as am I older now, but the show does a good job showing bad qualities in a politician like Raiko. In fact, he seems the most opportunistic and manipulative of them all (!), despite his seemingly calm and serious manner of addressing issues. I wonder if it had more time and options, would the show be more direct in portraying Raiko as a criticism of populism too, given that he is the only democratically elected leader? It touches briefly on that in Book 2 and Zaheer outright calls him incompetent, I think, in Book 3.

@@mariopenavic8573 of course I’m always down for a good conversation about Lok. And yes!! I noticed it too, the populism politics that are hinted at and then downright shown really well in season 3. I’d like to think that the show would have delved more into the discussion between the world leaders about Wu and the Earth Kingdom if it was now in 2022 but idk about then, even with more time. If only because they were already pushing boundaries with the show as is and while now I can see Nickelodeon giving them the time to really lock in with this kind of topic I can’t see 2012 Nickelodeon let them do that even if they got the 26 episodes. Though I will say I know the comics touch on this with Raiko a little more in depth than the show does. I can definitely see the other world leaders (especially Firelord Izumi ) having different arguments about how the Earth Kingdom should be run and what should they do but I can also see Raiko shouting down the room because he thinks he knows best. Just from that one conversation they showed with Raiko and Tenzin talking about Kuvira, it was he who made the decision to put her in charge and Kuvira promised HIM that she’s step down. He’s very manipulative I feel.

@@darholland3566 That is real neat! Well, hopefully, Avatar Studios has more leeway now to make at least something exciting! for the fans, ha! I also agree with you how likely their meetings went along: Tonraq and the twins probably decided to duck out since they couldn't address the issue, the former more because of sheer practicality, the latter maybe more because of optics and politics given what their father did previously, I guess. So that leaves only Tenzin, Izumi and Raiko to think of something, with Raiko probably convincing them to go along with his ideas, the excuse likely being that the United Republic actually shares borders with the Earth Kingdom, so he should lead the charge. Looking back now in hindsight, although again with bit of a stretch maybe, Raiko's plan seems to have been to use both Kuvira (after Suyin rejected the idea) and Wu as ''hard'' and ''soft'' tools to exert control over the mess the Hou-Ting's death left in the Earth Kingdom. Anyway, quite clever and very manipulative as you said. Maybe we're reading too much into it, but it is fun to speculate such mature things in seemingly a ''kids (or rather teenager?) show''!

It's really funny how the dynamic between Korra and Toph plays, they are two hot headeds trying to coexist, I feel Toph is also a little tougher with Korra because of course their personalities crush. And now you got introduced to girlboss Kuvira, I'm glad Mako talked to Wu about that, he was being so annoying.

Exactly! They're kind of a mirror of each other in terms of personality but Toph has much more experience and wider perspective of the world, inner and outer. Oh for sure, that Mako and Wu conversation was so necessary haha really love that dynamic lol!

In terms of Toph and Korra talking and interacting, it's very reminiscent about Empire Strikes Back: the swamp, Yoda as the green wise guy who as a connection with it all just like Toph sees everything, Korra like Luke is seeking for se emotional guidance and seems super weak. And it's visually super similar. It's all there. Also Revenge of the Sith personally based on the polical lines said by Kuvira and also the interaction between Mako and Bolin about the beginning of the empire. It's all there! And well, I just knew it existed lol I love their dynamic but don't ship them at all, super weird 😂
