Hi there! In this video I'm practicing preserving the saturation / vibrancy / glow of a water's surface.
Join me and see what a practice session like this typically looks like.
The main idea here is to place the water in using ONE WASH only. As soon as you glaze over it, you'll turn in more overworked and possibly darker.
I'm quite happy with the end result, and especially the variety of temperature.

Yes, you are definitely painting with fewer layers, but managing to retain clarity, the glow you're talking about. You've inspired me to wash off part of a painting I started today and try again!

It's interesting how I thought, as you as were putting in the first wash, it was too dark. The shadows and highlights sort of miraculously yielded the right contrast. Very instructive video.

The dark foreground water looks glossy and the background water looks highlighted. I was interested in your comments about how you tend to dark. I thought the background water could have had more lighter values. I learn so much watching you.
