For people who are confused as to why they chose the Qing dynasty, the reason is simple - any other choice would have been too political. Choosing something from the republican era might run the risk of having the game banned in China (though that being said, something like naming the civ “China” and having it led by sun yat sen would likely be fine and might honestly have been a better choice) and after the Republican era you only really have Mao and Deng Xiaping to pick between. In civ 4 China could actually be led by Mao (and Russia by Stalin funnily enough) but iirc civ 4 was actually banned in China because Mao was in the game, specifically they didn’t appreciate that you could declare war on and defeat Mao. Picking Mao would also be extremely upsetting to Chinese people who are in the diaspora, Taiwanese people, and so on, and would likely face backlash from other sides too. Chiang kai shek would have the opposite issue, with mainland Chinese people being offended by that, and also risking the game being banned for implying that the ROC is more legitimate than the PRC. TL;DR, because of Chinese censorship and recent Chinese history being very politicised and divisive, the Qing empire is possibly the least bad choice

I'm waiting for Japan and the USSR in the seventh part. I note that your game not only entertains, but also shows the culture and history of other countries.
@s-man5647Күн бұрын
A simple reason for the choice of Qing China is that the Qing Era represents the Early Modern period of China that was still opening up to the Western powers. If you think of the Early Modern period as that period of time where Enlightenment ideas were only starting to disseminate and with a few countries taking the lead in making them a reality, it lines up very well with Revolutionary America, France, and newly-independent Mexico. Republican China, whether PRC or ROC, is way too late and would be out of sync with the heretofore revealed Modern-era Civs.
@s-man5647Күн бұрын
Put it another way, the Qing dynasty were the ones that led China as they encountered the Western powers, which again makes sense as a narrative follow up to the Exploration period.

If they add DLC it would be great. Various periods of Japan such as Yamatai (antiquity age) and Tokagawa Shogunate (exploration age) It would be very reasonable. And she is in ancient Japan and has nothing to do with Meiji Japan or Emperor Meiji. And because right now no one knows her identity. We still don't know if she really exists or not?
