That’s the problem with the cheaper stuff, the bag has to be huge because of the bulk. Then when you upgrade to better equipment, you want to fill the space because you have gotten used to cramming stuff in. Half of your camping is boys fantasy den plans, half homeless person after finding shelter materials. Unique. 👍👍👍 and something I look forward to each week. Refreshing KZbin.

For each little camp shelter you build, you could have a little placard somewhere on the inside that says something along the lines of: "Use freely as a resource to share, come rain, snow, or cold. Please help maintain the shelter if need be." Not sure if it would actually help the shelters last longer or if people would be hit with reverse psychology, but it's worth a try...

I never tried the river valley for my "stealth" camps. Always in the Whitemud/Blackmud Creek area. I have to say that to cache stuff in the winter is very dicey. Only because you tend to leave a trail in the snow right to your cache! Plus, if you use a lighter color camo in the winter, it becomes real obvious when the snows vanish. I tried it in my area and lost 2 set-ups a coupla years back. Both from what I guess were homeless folk, who didn't destroy my stuff but simply cleaned me out. I didn't begrudge them. Perhaps they put my cooking and sleeping gear to good use! Good luck on your travels, both on the coast and back in Edm. I look forward to your caching exploits!!

your plan reminds me of the George and Tamzene family shelter of the Donner Party. If swing sets are made of aluminum instead of rust (steel) these days, just plunk a few of those around for frames. Assemble & disassemble as needed with thumb nuts & bolts or even reusable zip ties.

My first suggestion would be to buy some light/compact comfort essentials (i.e sleeping bag, tent and sleeping mat). If you're willing to fork out the money (which can be quite a bit) for super light gear then you can fit quite a bit of gear in a relativity small pack so as to remain inconspicuous.

Oh second recommendation. Suprisingly enough one of our local grocery stores has kids tents, mostly indoor intended usage. But I got one for the fiber segmented rods. The x shape of the two rods, would work nice for a poncho sized hut. I need to make a ground strap to hold the ends together & bind them together at the top The size of that white bundel you showed for your shelter is spot on for what I'm putting together. I'm about half way set up & am at the how to tote it stage. That's when I started thinking yoga bag.
