I’ve read on forums these cheap filters throw red media down the pump and cause it to fail also. Seems like a better idea to just replace the oem filter every 5 year/60k. You have to buy the outer housing to get the new filter, but it’s still only 25 bucks.

I have one sitting in my glove box and have yet to install because of exactly what you are talking about. I think the better route is oem. My secondary pump went out and was almost $3k to get it replaced!

seems like a good part of the new filter is blocked by the cover. wonder if there is a slightly smaller dia. one available or if cutting a little off the end of the cover to expose more filter might be an idea ?

Some people go without the cover, the cover isn't really tight up against the filter so I don't see this as being much of an issue. Interesting. Only the top is covered though, the bottom is exposed. Cover would protect it from water or mud perhaps. Also original set seem pretty sealed.

I think the oem cap will keep water and dirt out better than an exposed filter 🤷🏻‍♂️

I installed the filter mod but did not remove the sponge filter inside the housing. How bad am ruining my engine? 2:39

Just pop it off and remove it its not an issue just double filtering!

The sponge is the actual problem that’s why you are putting the filter so you can take it out, with the time it’ll disintegrate and little chunks will go inside the fan and clog the whole system very expensive fix.
