Quinton, While I've been a loyal and longtime subscriber of your channel, I will not stand by while you disparage and belittle the opinions of Doug Walter. Doug's 'Bruce Campbell' thesis holds a tremendous amount of weight when one takes his pivotal role as "Rod Redline" into account from the hit film Cars 2. The fact that you would discount such keen insight from a reviewer as credible as Doug only shows your true nature to be thoughtless and inconsiderate. Consider your channel to have one less subscriber and consider yourself to have one less friend.

I had no idea there was even a remake. Oh man. Love Bug/Herbie is one of my favorite movie series. As in when Herby Fully-Loaded came out (that's what I grew up with as a reboot to the franchise) I played the games on their site everyday and cried every time Herbie wound up in the shop in that movie. Herbie is my dream car. Well now I'm afraid.. starting the video now.

The way you describe your frustration and confusion with why people do not like The Love Big is the same way I have always felt about Jingle All The Way. Like, I do not, for the life of me, understand people’s distain for that movie. Yeah sure, it’s no critical masterpiece, but it’s not trying to be. All it’s trying to be is an entertaining story about a man trying to prove himself in the eyes of his son and the comedic escalating struggle to do so. In my opinion, it’s as good as A Charlie Brown Christmas. Man I got carried away there. All I’m trying to say is that I sympathize with your confusion.

This movie is probably my second favorite of the series, behind the original and in front of Herbie Rides Again. I love the noticably darker, slightly grittier tone this movie has over its predecessors. It's still cartoony, but it still feels way more grounded. The return of Jim Douglas is easily a highlight of the movie. He does a great job passing the "key" to Hank. Horace is a wonderful addition to the Herbie mythos and is a perfect antithesis to Herbie. You wish you just got to see him more and didn't die so it wasn't out of the picture to see him return in a sequel. Though, one thing that always bothered me with this movie is the design of Herbie himself. His '53' font is completely wrong, losing that unique 60s style it had and it also sits far too high up on his hood, the 53 is also split by the center plating on the hood. The stripes don't extend over the sunroof like in previous movies, and the width of said stripes are also completely out of wack, notably the red stripe which is far too thin. Fun fact: Micky Dolenz plays the eccentric custom car dealership owner. He is best known for being the lead singer and drummer in the Monkees

I just remembered Herbie existed today. No joke. So I watched the movie before seeing your review. Backstory for me and the series. As a kid I used to watched some of the movies on the late night disney channel, where they aired there black and white movies and older classics. I thank my late grandmother greatly for showing me this along with other amazing movies. The one I knew mostly was the one where Herbie went by Ocho. Some parts of that movie make me so emotional I swear. And the others I forgotten and one I have not seen yet. So going to that god awful movie like, Herbie fully loaded, and then many years later the 1997 movie I can say, that....Yeah! I fucking love this Movie. No joke I had moments where I couldn't help but smile so much, admire the effects, loved the cast of the movie, camera work perfection, stunts that make me miss this era of movies, and the story/writing as a whole. Plus the jokes are amazing! Because to me what makes Herbie so special is that he is a car doing things a car could do in a sense. Nothing crazy that seems too out there that really Herbie can not do. (Which is why fully loaded failed with me.) Also Herbie's honks where he talks to people, and the more loving you are the better you can understand Herbie is so sweet to me. I love Herbie. I love the 1997 love bug. It was just a wonderful time over all. Also last thing I want to say about the movie. For me I took Roddy hearing Herbie as him understanding him, since Roddy had a lot of love and kindness in them with his line about being picked last, and how he felt sorry for Herbie. The more love you give to Herbie the more you can understand him. As well as the more he gives back to you. Which is why I think the four characters who love the car are able to understand him so clearly. Robby, His creator, Alex, and later in the movie Hank. Which leads me to think because of this would explain why Robby won the race and not Hank. Because out of everyone he was the first to believe in the Herbie, love/care for Herbie, and took time to know his name by looking in the car. So yeah. This movie is perfect!

My mom always points out to people that my grandpa and I fell asleep within the first 30 minutes of the movie. And that's despite the fact my grandpa was the biggest bulls fan and a sportscaster in Chicago. I remember I'd always get pissed off when the kids I hung out with wanted to watch Space Jam. And or warrior of virtue *shudder* Any way I think I have to rewatch Love Bug. It's been at least 15 years since I have seen it lol

One thing that stood out tremendously in regards to quinton's lack of understanding as to why the Nostalgia Critic bought this not a good film: the film was directed by Peyton Reed the same guy who gave us now only The Break-Up but both Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the wasp. That's some quality direction right there

Quinton, the way you feel about this movie is the same way I feel about both Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo and Herbie Goes Bananas. I LOVE ALL the Herbie Movies, but Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo and Herbie Goes Bananas are my top 2 favorites, yet lots of people don't like those 2 films!!!! And if it makes you feel even more better, the 1997 remake is my third favorite after Herbie goes Bananas as Number #2, and Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo as my all time favorite!!!! I too can't get why some people don't like Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo, Herbie Goes Bananas, or this remake!!!!

I will say, I didn’t grow up with this one, it was only a few years into my original Herbie mania stage that I discovered it, and then it was only a few frames of each scene and one foreign trailer, that was it for 7 years until someone finally uploaded the whole movie to KZbin a few years ago, and I definitely would say it’s one of the stronger ones, the Herbie movies have a sort of reverse Star Trek effect with the odd movies being the best ones, while the even ones are alright to meh or Eck. Anyway, I was a bit ticked off that he just blew off some of these films as well. Like, come on Doug, really?! I get people won’t always be fans but to just straight up blow it off?! I mean, I have my problems with this movie too, I don’t think that it was necessary to explain why Herbie was alive among a few other things and some issues with continuity, cause this was both a remake and sequel, so I get it, but it feels like it was just a bit unnecessary in the bigger scheme, but it works fine in the movie, and it’s more a nitpick I have as a major Herbie fan. This movie is still quite good, I’d say the original or Monte Carlo better, or it’s as good as Monte Carlo.

So, one thing I gotta speak on, the whole gag thing with Herbie compared to Three Stooges. That was only the case for the 3 sequels. In the original Love Bug, when Jim Douglas finally realizes Herbie is alive, it is a tense moment where you can watch Jim be stricken back. The idea that Hank has to come to terms that it wasn't just him winning the race is part of the original Love Bug film, and it seems like that's not addressed here. The original Love Bug has a totally different story and totally different feel than the 3 sequels. Which is why I typically don't watch the sequels, except for Monte Carlo. It's much less of a gag film, and while still has comedy, focusing on a deeper story telling aspect that is not as far fetched as the rest. Herbie is alive just because he is. And in The Love Bug, he's unique. In Rides Again, they took that away, and the whole rest of the movie was a lot less realistic which is what ruins it for me. The thing about the original is that yes, the car is alive, but the story and character interactions are more grounded. They're as real as they can be. The other movies, not so much. The other movies just make no sense. To quote Jim Douglas & Tennessee Steinmetz, "Well of course it's jealous. It's always been jealous because I get credit for winning those races---" (beat) "Go on. Realize what you're saying?"

They're critics with opinions different from everybody else, similar or not. I mean Doug himself liked movies that other critics disliked. What I'm trying to say is, as I think that you may already understand, everyone is subject to their own opinions and biases. Even when similar biases are more common than other.

My Autobiography A Fanfic None of us knew the moral issues around Channel Awesome at the time. Not to mention Channel Awesome plus Cinemassacre pretty much founded the entire concept of internet reviewer culture. At least from a comical angle. Maybe it was good timing and nothing more but they got there early and they did have a lot of funny gimmicks and even genuinely witty punchlines. If it’s not for you I get that and those videos are harder to back to now, especially the later ones when Doug is blatantly running out of ideas.
