at around 30 minutes when he talks on the woman with depression I honestly wanted to shake him. Markee I don't know if you have had depression but it sure sounds like you haven't. When my depression is really bad I don't get out of bed, for days. I won't eat, play games or watch TV I just won't do anything at all. I just want to curl up and use all of my energy to fight the thoughts telling me I'm not good enough or I'm not worth anything. If my husband had this attitude with me I honestly don't know if I'd be here. You sounded really ignorant dude.

Understanding depression for those who have never been through it is a challenge not many people are aware about. I had never known anyone going through depression or motivation-draining disorders until only recently into my adult life, and you tend to say stupid and insensitive things because you aren't fully informed about it. So my guess is it isn't his area of expertise; it's really something you have to experience either yourself or with someone you're in a relationship with to truly appreciate and understand.

it rlly hurt hearing that. i have had severe depression the whole life. there have been days where i literally cant move sometimes. as gross as it is, i have peed/crapped on my bed bc i couldnt bring myself to move. its disguting and horrible. but everyone still treats us like we are lazy and disgusting for things we cant control. i know its hard to understand if u dont have it but its rlly ignorant regardless. its not being lazy. its hell. ive been in and out of hospitals my whole life, have dealt with everyone thinking im lazy, have been given up on by everyone in my life including medical/psychiatric proffesionals, and have lost everything to depression. so many people fail to realize that depression isnt just being a bit sad. it isnt just being a bit exhausted. depression consumes you and your whole life. often making the simplest tasks such as throwing something away or brushing your teeth impossible. they cant see it in front of their faces as they could cancer. so they dont believe it.

For me, depression feels like I have a thimble full of motivation and once I spend it on a chore or other adult thing like socializing or going out to pay bills, it takes me days to recharge/refill the thimble so that I can spend it on something else I need to do. Until that thimble feels full, the motivation to do things just does not exist and in the absence of motivation, every single menial task feels like a monumental undertaking, like trying to swim to the bottom of the mariana trench, or scaling mount everest. My mom means well, but she shows her ableism in the fact that she berates me and says that I am lazy and dumb for not behaving like a functioning adult, despite me begging her to help me with therapy and getting me the medication I need.

Look up the spoon theory. Used for people with disabilities, but I guess you can look at depression as sort of a disabilty. Please dont give in to the " lazy" narrative. Took me a long time to realise I am not lazy, that my issue is not a moral one, but a medical one. Just like depression. Perhaps the problem is people use the word depression for saddness and slso use the same word for a medical issue.

ANY time I have a patient that had syncope (passing out), I would insist that they go to the ER. I know they have the right to refuse, but before getting that signed refusal (and FYI a minor cannot sign it), I go over the MANY reasons why that patient needs to go to the ER, and NOW. I love how so many people jumped to the cancer or drug problem. Knowing the background of what is going on in his home, I would have leaned towards some sort of emotional or stressor, and alerted the ER in my report, that psych may need to come in and talk to the kid, as well as a social worker (before you jump on me about the social worker, it's not so the kid gets taken away. They can provide many programs that can help the kid and the family, especially if they are sick enough to go to the ER, but refusing for financial reasons). It is standard to ask all of the questions like "Do you feel safe at home? Does anyone pose a threat to you?" If your EMS crew is on scene and tells you that you should probably go get checked out, you really should. We get paid either way, and it's less paperwork if we DON'T take you in. So we aren't just BSing you! The dad should have called EMS, at very least. Even if they didn't transport, they could have ruled out any immediate dangers.

As a Canadian, I feel bad for our southern neighbors, who have to make that choice, because their politicians can't get their shit together. As great a country as America is, it's failing it's citizens over money. There are healthcare systems all over the world that they can model after. People make the country, not the other way around. When my depression was at its worst I stopped doing pretty much everything but living. The final trigger was losing a job I honestly loved. Mainly I slept, or just curled into a ball in bed and didn't move. I stopped taking care of my home, cooking, cleaning myself, or even eating. Had it not been for for my extremely understanding and supportive boyfriend, I don't know where I'd be. For context, I'm a survivor of attempted murder and an amputee (RLBK). It was easier for me to heal and process my emotions from both those experiences. Serotonin doesn't seem important, until your body can't produce it. When the chemicals in the body are imbalanced, the results can be gargantuan.

The vegan story: It is not true that they have to take the foals away from the mother in order to get the milk. My mother had a cow at countryside and she gave milk all the time, even when she didn't have a foal. If mom did not milk her, her udder would swell and she would be uncomfortable. So getting the milk actually does a huge favor to the cow. So no, eating milk and eggs don't actually harm the animals.

@denisa_the_jedi

@@TheLugiaSong I don't deny that, sad as it is, but I was underlining the fact that cows give milk all the time, except for about 1-2 months per year. Even when they give birth, the calf will only nurse for about 10 to 15 weeks, then the mother cow will try to prevent it from nursing. But the cow will continue to give milk, even after weaning, and if she is not milked she will be uncomfortable.

Exactly - but if someone wants animals treated humanely, they have to pay attention to the brands they try. Some cheese is made with bacteria harvested from dead cows, so also can look to avoid that. And chickens will lay eggs regardless - they are NOT chicken fetuses. And, again, can buy from a place where they are free range and treated humanely. I understand vegetarianism, but veganism seems extreme and they often make statements that aren't true.

Lack of energy and body aches are actually the physical symptoms of depression, which makes it more than simply "being sad". In countries where speaking about mental illness is still taboo--such as Eastern Asia--they still go to a doctor to get help for the physical pain and fatigue, while the pain tends to be ignored in "The West".

Mine is seasonal and I find it hard to be motivated to want to do anything, spite knowing I have to get up and be a mother to my toddler and feeling like I have my dead grandmother haunting me and giving me an earful from the other side. There are a few other things to factor in for me on why I don't clean very often especially right now, but my husband understands my reasons and helps on his days off to get it clean especially the chores that are physically hard for me to do right now.

To be honest, I didn't have much of an issue with the vegan story until the user at 14:08 pointed out the grains and diabetes issue. From what I'm reading, diabetics can still enjoy grains as long as it's the healthy, whole grain type. Starchy grains will make their blood sugar spike. I dislike that OP is trying to play doctor to her SIL's health. She's not her personal dietician and this could go wrong if not careful.

Going on the healing carnivore diet has saved my life twice. First from the heart issues. I couldn’t walk a half block or climb 6 steps without panting for 20 minutes! One year later- I went on an 8 mile hike over rocks at a fast pace. And I was not even panting when I was finished. The health changes have been phenomenal. Things I never expected… My migraines all went away. My lifelong sleep apnea went away. My insomnia went away. My gas bloating indigestionAnd indigestion all went away. My joint pain left my daily back ache left. I actually thought that backache was permanent damage to my spine and had been told this. but no it all went away and I was in such good shape after losing 95 pounds that I felt 15 years younger for a year. Then I got Covid pneumonia and I almost died from it because I have had lung damage from employment issues for decades. However I did not die because this diet had gotten me in better shape internally and externally as well. I have heard other people talking about other amazing things that healed on their bodies. I’ve had fibromyalgia my whole life and it did not seem to change for a long time but after one full year had passed on the diet I did start to notice that it was a bit better. After two years quite a bit better and now I am three years in - 3full years and still have some issues definitely but rarely do I have any major cramping or outburst of my nervous system where everything hurts all over all the time. I used to have those flareups where I would be in such pain for 2 to 4 weeks that I would want to cry every day and the only way to stop that would be to take a major painkiller but those gave me migraines so you know I didn’t want to get a migraine but I will take a migraineOver three weeks of unsubsiding pain. Fibromyalgia sucks and you know it sucks worse than anyone who doesn’t have it can’t even imagine.

I had the same thought. This wasn't a sibling who passed years before OP was born; her twin was the person she should have grown up sharing milestones and experiences with. I don't see why people think it's morbid to take a day each year to think about how different OP's life would have been if she were growing up with her twin. Studies show that newborns can identify their mother by her heartbeat. It seems logical to theorize that OP could have made the same connection with her twin before birth.

NTA for the OP in the twin story. As a twin, I totally understand. My twin died in utero. To everyone who says that OP never met his twin, that's BS! They knew each other from the moment they were conceived until the second the twin died. When you're a twin, you have an unexplained link. The surviving twin feel as if a part of them is missing for years. In time, you learn to deal, but you always feel it. Just because you don't feel it, doesn't mean it isn't real.

On feeding the nephew garlicky pizza: the child may be on a low-FODMAP diet and the child may have diarrhea for days due to her “test”. It may be an inability to digest those chemical compounds, but some people will phrase it as an allergy when talking about children, so people understand that it is serious. This is something that is discovered in children when they have severe gut issues and end up seeing a GI doc.

My father’s parents disowned him because of ‘something that happened *around the time I was born*’. They went as far as to claim they never even had a son and banned the rest of the family from talking to us too so I grew up with only family on my mother’s side. We have always suspected that part of the (possible) reason was because I was a girl when they wanted my father to have a boy to carry on the family name. Well jokes on them because many years later I came out as transgender, so I am now my fathers son instead of daughter. I also have a partner and 2 sons of my own, as well as 2 grandchildren, who all have the family name, not that I think a name matters at all, but it just shows what my fathers parents chose to miss out on! I don’t understand what goes on in peoples minds because there is absolutely nothing that my kids or grandkids could do that would make me want to stop talking to them and nothing makes me happier than the days I get to spend time with my grandkids. It makes no sense to me that people will turn their back on their kids or grandkids over the kinds of things some people do

Vegan story: Going to be controversial I guess, but NTA. If what OP is saying is genuine, the kid is able to make her own decisions on what goes into her body when told about other people’s views. If she disagrees, fine, and OP offered to get her something if she really wanted it. The child declined. When I found out where pork came from as a kid, I refused to touch it. I would scream, cry, throw up, the whole nine yards. I never outgrew not eating pork (but with more tact and just a “no thanks,” or ordered something else without telling other people what they could and couldn’t have around me). The child stayed with someone who did not eat those items. Sister knew this and still allowed her to have meals with her knowing the product wouldn’t be there and the question could come up.

1:49:51 this is not a good update Girly why on earth would he have put your two important medications behind the toilet?? And if he lost them, how did he know they were there?? In one day, he “lost” two items crucial to your health, and one item that’s incredibly sentimental… and when you finally snap at him he responds defensively, then magically knows where all these items are before coming home & searching?? I hope he never pulls crap like this again after getting so close to being caught, cause there’s no way this was unintentional.

I feel like "twin" really needs a way to grieve the brother he could have had. It makes it hard because you didn't know this twin, but maybe create a day with your mom where you go to all of the places she had happy memories when she was pregnant with you both. If one of those had anything you could buy as a momento like maybe a back yard garden statue, a piece of jewelry, ect. maybe buy it to remember your brother. I also feel therapy may be a good idea. There is more than the loss of the brother you are feeling. I think a lot of it is what could have been.

uh, why on earth would she feel safe enough to communicate with a guy that says "I understand you are depressed, but you are just being lazy because no one likes to do chores." This is this guys view on depression; just not wanting to do chores. There is no way she could have talked to this guy. Also, the person that says "why didn't she clean to stave of depression." This girl is at rock bottom... You can't see anything out of the fog when you are that far gone. She needs to break up with this guy.. Not because "he was mean." However, it sounds like she is clinically depressed. She needs to date someone who had a greater understanding of what depression is.

For the first story you were absolutely not the a-hole.I would "pass out" (I put pass out in quotations because it wasn't like blackout passing out if that makes any sense) and be super nauseous. It escalated to me not being able to get out of bed because everything hurt because my head hurts so bad. Also I wasn't eating and constantly throwing up. Later after my Mom took me to the ER because she thought I had food poisoning I ended up having brain cancer. Edit: I also did not want to go to the emergency room or see my doctor but my mom had too veto that decision after I spent days without eating and vomiting in the morning.

I do not think op in the vegan storry is the A.H. she only told the kid the true and the kid decided she didn't want to eat it anymore she didn't force her ! I am not vegan but have been vegetarian since I was 6 years old I made that decicion myself no one forced me ! Everyone in my family eats meat.... It may be annoying for the parents but that is not a reason to be angry at OP..... What was she supposed to do? don't answer the questions? she explained her reasons why SHE doesn't eat meat and that was only the ugly true and we all know that... I'm not trying to turn anyone vegan but whether you eat meat or not is something everone has to decide for themselfs...including children... if she doesn't want to eat it it is fine !

i agree w/ that one commenter. it's funny how there are double standards if a woman is posting she's not sexually attracted to her husband who is doing nothing on his end to try to fix the problem vs a husband posting. both op & his wife need to go to counseling, if not just for a few sessions, b/c it's clear neither can get their feelings across w/o causing problems. then the wife needs a nutritionist or someone & start incorporating her children into exercise. if she's too tired for walking after dinner, take the babies out walking at a park while they nap at a park or get baby swings & watch exercises. if possible, she should reach out to someone or hire a babysitter so she can workout or go walking w/o worrying about the babies. the biggest thing is diet. i lost almost 70lbs by changing my diet. i completely cut out unnatural sugars, ate more salads, had healthy snacks (nuts, dried fruit, seeds, etc.), drank fruit smoothies i made, & drank lots of water (to avoid eating when i was just thirsty), & avoided all other drinks b/c of calories. i meal prepped 1/wk. she should have op look after the kids while she does this & it would free up more time later in the wk. it baffles me how ppl think it's impossible to lose weight. i wasn't given the tools to eat healthy by my parents, learning unhealthy habits, but i managed it & i'm really not that smart. you don't need to look up tons of info. stop overeating, avoid bad foods, eat healthier ones, watch portion size, & focus on calories, doesn't need exact numbers (look up how much you should be having for your weight, height, & activity level, adjust as needed). then if you feel you're missing some vitamins, either add foods rich in them to your diet or take supplements. even tho it's hard w/ will power, it's really not that hard. the biggest thing is planning, having an overall plan & then planning (prepping) weekly. it took me about a wk of looking up ideas & about 1-1/2hrs wkly to prep. it's really crazy to me how ppl act like it's impossible. i get it but plan & follow thru. don't give in. you get a craving, wait 5 mins, distract yourself & see if you still have it. also crazy to me how ppl undervalue sexual attraction or act like it's not important in a relationship. if i found out my husband felt this way, i'd immediately start planning to do something & then do it. you do not hold onto a happy marriage w/o it, unless both partners don't care about sex. it's 1 thing if you're dealing w/ a medical issue & i get having kids is hard but life's hard. you don't want to show your kids it's okay to be unhealthy, ignore your partners wants or needs, & model an unhealthy marriage to them. i wish my parents had shown me healthy eating habits & it didn't matter what good 1s my mom had b/c they were overshadowed by my dad's unhealthy 1s. rant over

First, it's not a "coke" problem because he would not be lethargic & sleep all the time if he was "using". Personal note, I had to threaten my then husband with getting 4 of the biggest guys to come help me take him to the Drs. He relented, we went to the Drs asap (family Dr, 3 generations of patients). Dr sent us to the ER & the Dr met us there for emergency surgey. His appendix was about to blow. Because the pain was not where my husband thought it shoild be, he tried to insist it was nothing. Why do some people (I've noticed men do this more, in my family anyway) deny they have a health issue thst needs to be checked out? My own mother waited 2 weeks to tell me & sis she needed medical care. By this point we had to call an ambulance. She died within 10 days. We asked her why she hid this from us. She didn't want to ruin Christmas. Stubborn woman. I miss her.

to be fair, I was in my late teens when I decided to be vegan, and it was because of a video. The only reason I stopped was because I kept "falling asleep." It turns out, I am hypoglycemic. It turns out, if you have blood sugar issues the vegan diet is carb heavy. It is very hard to get enough protein without eating a bunch of carbs. So I was blacking out due to my blood sugar being all over the place. I did learn some new food prep tricks. While I ate a lot of produce before that point. I looked into a larger variety of veggies and ways to prep. I learned a lot, but no regrets going back to eating meat.

Re OP's depressive GF: Crockpots are awesome. Toss something in it in the ams and you'll have a nice dinner when you get home, or toss something in at night and have an awesome breaky the next am. Also, maybe you and she can trade some cleaning services w/ a friend, or trade for other services. It's often easier to clean someone else's mess than you're own.

I'm so happy to read the vegan update. I've been vegan for 3 years and no one else in my family are vegan. Forks over Knives is a great documentary, I also recommend Game changers especially for athletes. I also wanted to note about the misinformation regarding grains, carbs, and diabetes. Please please please look into WFPB research regarding how our bodies process plants & complex carbs differently than simple carbs and fats. Our brains need glucose and is able to get it naturally from plants. One of my friends has type 1 diabetes. She says that when she's goes WFPB, your blood sugar spikes less and she doesn't have as many crashes. A proper colorful unprocessed diet is healthy and can cover all needed nutrients & micronutrients. This is something you can speak with your doctor/ nutritionist about. I also recommend chronometer, an app, where you can input your meals and see where you might be lacking certain micronutrients whether or not you are vegan, Omni, or carni
