I like it when the DM lets you create a character in any way even if it defeats the logic of classic dnd lore and then goes along with the characters backstory. My favourite was when i created an elf character in a world where all elves should be able to use magic, but my character couldnt and so had opted to becoming a rogue. Being shunned by most of the villiage since young, he trained most of his life to become a rogue skilled enough to defeat any mage. Loved that character.

"The most clusterfuck campaigns are the most fun to remember" My absolute FAVORITE DnD story to tell is the story of the very first time I ever DM'd. I placed a giant, glowing, magical rune in the center of the floor. What does our paladin do? Charges DIRECTLY INTO IT. We proceeded to spend the next 4 goddamn hours with the rest of the party fighting the mind-controlled paladin. The paladin won. :D

My younger brother once had a character named Erwin vonLedgewalker. He ended up becoming a baron after a series of shenanigans, and he decided to help this village's economy by opening a confectionaries shop and brewery because one of the npc's made hella good ale and sweets. He actually ran it incredibly well since the DM made him actually roleplay building his goodies-based empire, and the village became super rich exporting these one-of-a-kind candies. The npc became a manager, and she runs the company while Baron vonLedgewalker is off adventuring. Every game after that one now has an easter egg of vonLedgewalker Confectionaries somewhere in it.

We had a mind controlled party member (the strongest character, of course!) in a one shot. I was playing a character who could charm/mesmerize and the DM ruled I could attempt to override the mind control. We were fighting a BUNCH of undead including two huge frog things which had level drain, and then fighting our party member as well. Then the Elf with the magic undead destroying arrows decided to just run away. I insisted she leave the arrows so someone else could use them, and with some lucky rolls I was actually able to kill both frog things and override the mind control. But it was really close to a TPK because a player got freaked out by level drain in a one shot and just ditched.

I used the "if someone calls you evil for setting boundaries, lean into it" thing for a minor antagonist in my RWBY fanfiction, and it works incredibly well. The character in question is this really kind woman, whose power lets her make Light Ice, which is ice that embodies all the positive aspects of ice, such as calmness, beauty, and (self) reflection. Her nature is like the first snow in the winter, the peace and quiet of a winter night when it snows outside and you sit by the campfire with your loved ones, and the beauty of all these amazing natural glaciers with those cool colors. In other words, this woman absolutely sucks at being a bad person, yet she tries really hard to be evil, just to prove to her bf that setting boundaries isn't the most evil thing she can do. Except, the most evil thing she ever did was pocket some money when the cashier gave her too much change, and she felt really bad about it.

Regarding the death penalty: Yes, they would absolutely accept that. There was, for example, the case of Maggie Dickson, also known as "half hanged Maggie" (not half hanged mary!). Maggie was a scottish fishers wife who was accused of causing her own babies death in 1728 and hanged. But she merely passed out and was cut down before she died, so she woke up again right when she was carried to the graveyard. By scottish law, she already got her punishment and couldn't be convicted again, so she was set free. After that, they added "..until death" to their sentences. So ye. Technicalities like that would absolutely work when it comes to law enforcment and sentencings.

I'm going to start a horror story from a DM's perspective, and ya'll are going to finish it I'm running a homebrew campaign, and we had this first boss. She was played up as this big bad person, but she was supposed to be really easy to avoid and even get on their team, then leave the players going "Wait, but who's the actual boss?" until I drop a massive twist on them. However these guys didn't do that, and got to fight her but I was prepared for that. I made her massively OP and so she would completely wipe them out. His time I the wild made him a skilled hunter, to the point where he can navigate through a forest without a problem(just making sure the ranger treats are included in his backstory). When he was about 37, which js young for an elf but still the oldest in the party, he noticed something was off about him, he was growing at the rate a human does, making him join an adventuring guild in an attempt to find out who his mother is, something he was never able to find as the thrill of fighting became his life

Immediately paused the vid to say: yes, hell yeah to the DND streams. It would be a good way to learn how the game mechanics actually work in real time. Plus I bet you’d get sick fanart based around it. And if you wanted to, your mods could use polls and stuff for some things during the game, making it a little interactive :D

Connor from the game Detroit Become Human has his own twitch channel with his wife who played some of the Traci bots, and they have a DnD campaign called The Golden Spiral. And it has the interactivity like you mentioned.

Some ways to make wizards gaining magic cool: *Their magic book is from an ancient library. *They have the ability to copy and paste any spell they read about in a book that was spawned into existence when they were born. *Their book was stolen from the tomb of an ancient dead god (or demi-god). *Their magic book was owned by their dad and used to have incredible power but after the original owner died they lost their power and now the wizard wants to help bring back his dad's legacy.

13:37 Remembered me about a group I play with. We had once the Problem that we were not welcome in a village for a reason we didn’t know about (they still let us in). We knew that there was a Problem just by the way the people acted and the fact that there were a bit to many vampires (In the DM’s world they were weaker than normal and not evil by default). We decided to gain there trust. Our LG paladin come up with the plan, that we should create a fake monster that the townsfolk would fear and that we could slay then. Ten in game hours later my evil rouge and the chaotic neutral fighter came back to town, luring a real monster into the City. Turned out that the local government where I the middle of an evil plan and we were supposed to end that plan. Well… we stopped them, but only because the Monster and our battle with the leader of the local government leveled the whole village.

If someone actually adds fantasy-Vegas to their game, they NEED to make sure there's an NPC of Penn and Teller, somehow identical to their real-world counterparts, as if the city is so twisted that it's begun to blend with reality.

The Click: "You need some garbage ideas, you need people to fail, you need some characters to explode." My birdbrained Harpy Wizard: "I, with my knowledge of magic, create a version of fireball - but water damage - to put out the big fire." DM: "In one turn? Are you sure?" Me: "Yes." DM: "Roll Spellcraft. Oh, and reduce your roll by 2d6, because you are also on fire." (taking damage affects rolls) Me: *rolls poorly, even before the penalty* DM: "Okay... magical catastrophe... you blow yourself up... and all the magical artifacts around you... causing them to also blow up..." The one Elf character smart enough to run away: "Glad I'm outside of the explosion radius." DM: "You're literally one square outside of the radius... and only because you had the run feat... so I guess it's technically not a TPK." Granted, this is paraphrased... but it sure is memorable. Oh, and don't worry... we were eventually resurrected. And my Harpy Wizard has only blown herself up once since XD

If a campaign is normal, it doesn’t often get remembered. If a campaign is good, it gets remembered, but not as much as the time you TPK’d in the first round of combat because the Wild Sorcerer rolled a 7.

Interesting tip; the rules for not being able to cast a spell as a bonus action and an action in a turn are specifically that you can't cast a spell with an action during the turn you cast one with a bonus action. This means that if you have multiple actions (a la action surge) you can actually cast more than 1 non-cantrip spell in a turn. Really makes me want to play an eldritch knight, or just some weird janky fighter/caster multiclass

If I ever decide to join a D&D campaign, I would want to be a rogue who's really bad at sneaking except when they are asleep. Plus they are an absolute bean which works in their favor because attempting to intimidate and threaten makes them think they are just being silly. Succeeding in a roll causes the npcs to get angry at the rogue bean, which makes them ultimately run away. A reverse success rogue!

I have a tabaxi rogue child who exists in any party I play(like mumtiverse stuff)like Because of this I can also shift into a shadow like form in which I am part of no reality whatsoever. Because of this I can temporarily interact with NOTHING whatsoever, be it the opponent or the ground I am standing on. (I usually do this airborn). Pair this with my childish and sneaky nature and you have one of the most mest up mind detect thoughts could possibly read.

Actually.....getting away with the sentence being carried out without being dead happened once. I don't remember the country, but was a long time ago. And they hanged some women, and then cut her body down from the noose. But, it turns out that she was still alive when they cut her down. It was determined that the sentence was carried out, and she was free. That is why the sentence is now apparently 'to be hanged until dead', or something like that.
