I don't know how reliable the "Millenium 7 * History Tech" channel is when it comes to military technology, but they claim the Rafale's external pod can optically detect fighter-sized targets from the front at 80 kms. Which would make the rafale being unable to detect the F22 at 20 miles unlikely. Honestly I don't know enough about optical detection technology and figther aicrafts to give an opinion on the matter, but I guess if the Rafale has that type of tech, all 4.5 and + fighters have it ? So it would be kind of common knowledge

In reality the F22 is a meta breaker. I deployed in the first Red Flag deployment of the F22, 1FW from Langley. I was participating with the 49FW in the F117. We were blue air along with the 1FW and many other units. The F-22 in that deployment had the highest Blue Air kill ratio in the history of Red Flag. Amazing airplane! That was 2006-2007 so it has been a while and Im sure it is only better. I retired in the summer of 2007.

I had the luck to deploy with UK 617 F35 Sqn to RED Flag in 2019 at Nellis AFB. Was an incredible trip, even had the opportunity to fly with a an voyager and watch them tank mid flight. From what I what I understand we did quiet well against RED air. We didn't have any F22s join for the exercise but we did see them at Nellis. First time I've ever seen one, never forget that moment.

APG-77 AESA has some tricks up its sleeve that make most RWRs useless. It’s really unfair with a 2-ship of Raptors especially. Conversely, any RF you push is immediately detected by totally passive systems embedded into the F-22’s RF antennae architecture and fused avionics, including the AESA as part of that suite. This detection system has about twice the range of the AESA in active mode. No matter what possible upgrade you try to make to a 4.5 Gen fighter, you’re still at an extreme disadvantage to training use only Block 10 Raptors that never go feet wet. Rules of the road.

I don't know how the physics are coded for DCS, and - as you said (in so many words) the F-22 in the game is nerfed so that there's a playable aspect, but all things considered, look at the timing of both the Rafale and the SA-10 launches at you. They both fired after you let your AMRAAMs fly. I don't think the timing is a coincidence. I think both the Rafale and the SAM got hits on you when the bay doors were open and took quick shots at you.

Long ago, before the Raptor even went into service, there was a Flight Sim named "F-22 Air Dominance Fighter" or F-22 ADF in short. I have no idea how realistic this Sim was, but since it was sold at the ILA 2006 in Berlin at the demonstrator stand for the YF-22, I assume it was at least somewhat realistic. Anyway, I distinctly remember that the Flight Computer _(it was named differently but I can't remember... this was in the early 2000's after all)_ had several Emission Control *'EmCon'* modes that could be switched through in flight. Those were numbered 1 through 5, with 1 being the "I want to fly formation with a hostile without being in danger" mode, 3 being the "Standard" mode and 5 being the "light up everything with EM Radiation like a huge Christmas Tree that just caught fire" mode. Note, the EmCon Status could be set to "Automatic", and even with external stores loaded, the automation did not use EmCon 5. These managed every aspect of the aircrafts signature, visible, thermal and of course electromagnetic RADAR to control how "visible" the aircraft is. In EmCon 1 for example, your sensor suite was in passive mode, no active RADAR. In EmCon 5 you had the opposite, turning the RADAR up to *maximum possible output,* emphasis on 'possible'... you could burn out your RADAR's in this mode. EmCon 5 also turned up *ALL* the Jammers to 11 for good measure. So, question from me to any F-22 pilots or Raptor Documentation Wizards that might be in the audience... is what I just described even remotely close to how the real thing operates? I'm asking because Emission Management is a big part of Stealth, and so far I haven't seen anything indicating that the Stealth Fighter mods for DCS simulate that at all. Everyone's welcome to discuss of course.

Interesting fight but some open questions though... the Rafale would probably pick up the F22 around 20 miles, if not with his radar, at least with its optronic system. It is hard to know what a meteor would do since so much is classified, but within 15 miles the rafale would fire a mica IR, which would create additional challenges to the F22. And the Rafale radar would definitely pick up the F22 with an open bay.
@kovyfra5987
@kovyfra5987 3 жыл бұрын
Indeed, in a clear sky like that, with this engagement geometry (head on, same altitude) the FSO+LDP would probably get an ID and a firing solution on a F-22 at more than 30 miles. The perfect distance for a mica IR silent shot. Anyway, the EO sensors of the Rafale might not be simulated in the game (and who would be stupid enough to fire a meteor at 12 miles instead of a mica IR against a stealth fighter with super maneuverability?)

That's still a massive advantage for the F-22. However the F-35 with its more modern defensive and offensive electronics systems make it a far more deadly plane, and is even more untouchable compared to these outdated 4th gen fighters. Red Flag and all the recent trials such as in Finland hammered this home. F-35 is cheaper than most of its competitors which is pretty funny, Rafale is twice as much.

Hey Sidewinder. This is a realistic fight. In modern Combat area,you won't let your Air defence to Just fighters. There are awacs,Air defence systems,passive radars and more. I think that Rafale see the Raptor in datalink a little bit late. And those missiles and S-300 didnt shoot the missiles bc of IR stealth Technology. When they get closer to you,these missiles miss their way. Anyways,that was a realistic and a good video. That would also come for the Felon.

Appears DCS is highly underestimating the capabilities of the Rafale and meteor missile system. Along with over estimating the capabilities of the F22 stealth technology Classified data and specs is obviously unavailable for systems in question. So modeling the system’s properly is highly difficult. But its well known that electronic warfare technologies have kept up with or outpaced stealth/radar absorption technology. F22 is a awesome platform in regards to data fusion/sensor networking/situational awareness capabilities so very capable in BVR arena, highly capable BFM thanks to thrust vectoring and great thrust to weight ratios due impart to engine technology advancements. Yet it appears the gap between the later versions of the rafale and meteor missiles and the F22 needs reduced in the modeling

@@raakeshsingh7852 Correct. Raptor’s ALR-94, which is fused with the MAWS, IFDL, and AESA, is a full massive generational leap ahead of any type of EW system you can put in a 4th Gen design. ALR-94 has about 30 different RF antennae of varying lengths for both passive detection and certain EW applications that anyone with an AeroE EE can start to guesstimate. ALR-94 is the primary detection and tracking system for TGTs, especially for a Raptor 2-ship via the IFDL LPI LAN data link. Rafale has none of this. Rafale has wingtip, tail, and fuselage-mounted RWRs, MAWS, and antennae that aren’t even half the count of the F-22’s. The only sensor types the Rafale has that the F-22 doesn’t are the OSF, which are radar-slaved. Trying to search with the IRST at long range isn’t that effective, and F-22 is IR concealed anyway. There are recent photos of Rafale OSF imagery of the F-22A within visual range that show it to be a very cold TGT even in afterburner. How is that possible? Decades of experience with IR concealment/stealth from HAVE BLUE and other programs where these factors were taken into consideration and addressed, with a huge budget and army of gifted engineers.

Seing the angle of the Raptor when evading the Meteor, we can safely say that this isn't realistic AT ALL, stealth aircraft liek the F22 are steathyer from the front or the back, no when the entire wing span is visible from the top, at such a small range and with such a modern missile as the Meteor this seems highly unlikely

Agreed, it's nonsense. Also while opening the weapons bay the Raptor ought to be visible.

This is an issue with DCS that needs to be rectified, in DCS the radar cross section of an aircraft is the same from ALL angles. IRL the radar cross section changes depending on the altitude and aspect you see the enemy from.

I agree, I cannot imagine public software accurately simulating top secret technology, for the f22 or Rafale. They must be guessing about a lot of the performance.

TBH, as soon as you turned you radar on and locked the Rafale on your radar, you would have been picked up by the Spectra EW suite of the Rafale. And at 6 miles it would probably have fired a MICA IR missile

the OSF (Optronique Secteur Frontal) mounted on the nose of a rafale is an optical TV sensor that can detect and identificate EVERY kind of fighter jets within a range of 40 kilometers and it's unsensitive to IR and Radar stealthness, it only focuse on the physical shape by analyzing every pixels of what is seen by the sensors.

Rafale's OSF system was not activated ... in such a clear sky (Cavok) in this situation the IRST / Flir system should be Rafale's main weapon, together with Mica IR, which would make it more stealthy, the range OSF is over 45km. The IRST would allow a smaller Rafale radar signature (RCS) ... but it would have to use Mica, who knows, maybe you can simulate a combat with an arrangement of Meteors and Micas?
