Never mentioned the in game store in my review so I thought I would share my view here. I fail to see any need for a store selling cosmetic gun skins in a game, especially a single player game. These skins were clearly made at the same time the game was being made so for me they should be available to everyone as part of the game, it's immoral and greedy to withhold game content and then flog it as if it's some kind of extra content the same day the game releases. Stop buying it then they will stop selling it separate from the game!

Worth A Buy American here, haven’t finished the vid and know you likely don’t want to answer questions but can you please elaborate on the blond hair-fan guy..? I keep noticing every single trump portrayal outside the 2016-17 snl sketches has just been utter shit and made the Dems look pathetic and I’m curious if this game really shat the bed in a pathetic attempt to win over a handful of critics or not...

While you may disagree with a company selling 'extras' ; its a tad hyperbolic to call that immoral. Morality has nothing to do with voluntary transactions between two free people. It would be immoral to claim that you got these skins with the standard game purchase and then after you purchase you find you have to pay more for what was already promised. However this doesn't seem to be the case you describe. Don't confuse your aesthetic opinion about how a private enterprise should interact with it's client base with morality because morality is a bridge burning proposition.
@datalink7

@@Dlahusen1 If it is exploitative, you could deem it immoral. Not saying it is, but if that's the angle it wouldn't be hyperbolic at all.

I disagree Matt. As much as Doom 2016 is good looking game, these music sections are only set in certain areas. When i played Doom it felt like this: corridor( no music) , arena ( music), corridor( no music). When i played older games like Blood or Doom, there was some background music and at certain times it would increase the volume, not due to fact in was in "arena", but when getting to a certain "checkpoint" ( some temple enterance, big reveal...etc) New Doom doesnt feel like a world that exists, it doesnt feel as im the doom guy. And more over, chainsaw has fuel - that thing ruined the game for me. Maybe im just too old...

Eh that's the thing tho.. it's an open world game with a story. And if the story is bad. The characters are bad. The vehicles to get you through the open world are bad. 0:30 Running "well" on a 2080 at 1080p is nothing to write home about, actually this game runs like shit in part due to the fact its using the same engine as Just Cause 4 rather than IdTech6. 0:48 Other than the lighting system and special effects the game lacks depth and has trouble rendering certain details like SSR. Also lack of detail is obvious especially in the starting zone even tho it is better masked in other parts of the game. 1:00 For a AAA game made by ID Software the amount of graphics settings you can modify is laughable. Also they are hardly worth turning down due to the small impact in performance and high impact to graphics quality. The best thing to do if you want more performance in this game is to turn down video resolution, most other settings are not worth the visual impact in terms of performance gained. 8:16 No surprise here, it has pink (as did another game you recently liked) and allegedly has fun combat without proper motivation (as did the other game) 8:26 You said that about the last pink FPS you played recently that you also thumbed up, and it wasn't jedy academy :) i would have thought it reminded you of Far Cry New Dawn since thats the exact same thing you said about the game. I love Doom, but that has great optimization and graphics, isn't forcing nonsensical characters down your throat and is certainly not fu**ing pink and full of microtransactions. Hope you loved my review of your review :)

I haven't heard Mack speak so passionately about a positive aspect of a game for ages - it must be good! Because the biggest audiences will earn the most money. And the biggest audience for videogames are casual players, often not adults. So keeping a game similar to other bigger titles, without much thought process involved to play the game and making it easy as fuck, ensures a casual player will play it 1-5 hours/week and feel like he's good at the game. Not only that, he can pick up and not be lost as to where he was in the story/game and whatnot. And on top of that, they're not taking any risks so they're not making anything original. Open world and vehicles look extremely generic in this game for instance. Look at big developpers these last 5 years and almost all of them follow a same pattern.

Mack, But who has a 2080! that's like a £1000 card :? On an average 1060 or a pspro or ps4 it runs ...well it doesn't run well and can drop to under 30 fps at times (too much of the time). On the original xbox it sucks..it really does. As you said in your rage 1 review , if you have a toaster the game wasn't great. On consoles and some pc's in 2019 Rage2 is a little like a toaster game with frame rate dropping below 30 during the action and kinds of texture issues. I agree there is no excuse for bad jokes in a game or a bad UI. And Mad Max is amazing and the cars are awesome so just sad to hear rage 2 screwed that. I wanted to love this...damn the reviews are mostly bleak. Also you didn't mention the Ai which was a large part of of your last review. And what about the micro transactions ? And the micro transactions are just awful from what i've seen and day one cosmetics and the ability to buy your items and skip the game. That shit should not be in a single player game :? Can I ask was this a free copy or a paid one? As I enjoyed the RAGE1 review and you said that both were free. With resepct does not paying for the game effect your overall decision ? As we will have to pay over £40 for the game or 70 for the special edition (with all that removed content) and that's before transactions. I like the review but I feel you missed points which the average gamer with average money and average specs will care about.

@@fixo5132 "i heard" lol Please fact check before speaking junk online which might mislead people. I don't say things for clicks, I say them because I care about games and I hate microtransactions as you can see below why. I accept your apology in advance now feel free to downvote me and argue why live service and loot boxes are great. 'The microtransactions in Rage 2 are broken up into four different payment choices for the game's premium currency, called RAGE Coins. The more you're willing to pay for at once, the more RAGE coins you're going to get back with your initial purchase. Here's how they break down: 500 RAGE Coins: $4.99 1,100 RAGE Coins: $9.99 2,500 RAGE Coins: $19.99 4,500 RAGE Coins: $34.99 You can choose from these four different options. After you've purchased your RAGE Coins, you can take them to the premium market place to purchase exclusive skins and items. When you're in the premium menu, you're going to find a wide variety of weapon skins available for you to purchase. These skins go on to your favorite weapons, and they make them stand out during combat. Buying one of them from the premium store will not improve your weapon's statistics or improve your overall gameplay experience. There are items available in the premium store you can purchase. I think this game is saved by its enjoyable combat and gunplay. Otherwise, the similarities with Rage 1 would be the post-apocalyptic world and the Rage name only. Also, i have a feeling that if they used the Doom engine, the game would look even better. At least it's fun and i guess that's all that matters for Rage 2.

Thanks Mac - another trusted review. One thing though - is it a problem that you have a 2080? Telling me it runs well on a 2080 doesn't say much. 1) of course it does. 2) I'm still on a 970 and will be for a couple of years, so knowing it's good on a 2080 doesn't mean anything to me. Looking at the most recent steam survey the most common cards are the 1060, 1050Ti, 1050, 1070 and 960. If you had a 1070 say, people would be able to gauge something from your experience. Saying it's fine on a 2080 is only good info for 2080 owners (which steam puts at 0.6% of gamers in Apr 2019). store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/

I dont really think that it should be thumbed up. I mean.. the game as a whole.. a bad story, not great ai. The open world as you said it feels kinda emptyish. Bad characters. Bad humor. Bad vehicle mechanics.. The only thing good about it is the combat? All in all.. that's 1 good thing vs 5+ bad things. How does that justify a thumbs up exactly? I mean I have to pay 60 euro's for this. 60. And all I would get is just good shooting and maybe sound? But everything else is pretty bad? I dont see that as being worth the 60 euro price tag. I mean.. I may as well play more doom or even multiplayer shooters like battlefield 4 orso if only the shooting is good about it. So why is it getting a thumbs up? (I dont mean this as an attack orso just a honest question)

Very accurate review Mack, I just got around to playing it (late adoption FTW) and I agree with most of your takes. Fun combat, beautiful environment with disgusting, awful NPCs and a completely dull story. Nearly every NPC is an unfunny, ugly filth-covered creep. Hell, the giant cave troll\crusher mutants are more sympathetic characters than the ally NPCs. The dialogue is so cynical and self-referential. Like there's no attempt to make it sound like it's not a video game. The mutants now have recognizable speech, making them more comedic than like monsters. I love what Avalanche does for environment, design and combat, but tonally this thing was a disaster.

Mack, have you ever played Max Payne 3? That game is right up your alley and I'm surprised you haven't reviewed it yet, especially considering how much you liked GTA V and RDR 1/2. . It has some pacing problems and way too many cutscenes but I honestly think you'd enjoy it. The gunplay is top notch and the story is quality, especially if you played the first 2. Obviously they are punks and some of them wear the PRIDE flag badge while talking totally degenerate crap (something along the lines of "I should put a grenade up my arse and blow us all up!" @@Wolfsheim23 I was only half serious with my previous comment. I do believe many people to be such a sheep that they like something just because everybody else does, that is just human nature. My problem with witcher 3 and metal gear solid is that everyone is fanboying the crap out of them and blind to the huge flaws that these games have. People praise these games as if they were absolutely perfect. These games have gotten so much praise all around that I offer my different opinion about them with clean conscience, criticism is good for the community and good for the developer. To be Frank, if these games wouldn't be causing such a mass psychosis among gamers, I would consider them just mediocre games.

But it's OK to like a game like Kingdom Come more but to call the Witcher a terrible game and Kingdom Come a great one takes such a biased skewed perspective that I can't take them seriously even though I like Macks reviews and sometimes he's spot on, I still take it all with a grain of salt because I know his perspective is so biased and skewed one way.

This is not your typical id studio or even Avalanche game. First of all the story is a cringefest of epic proportions. During the start of the game there's a theme of identity politics on overboard with ugly and comical characters. Your protagonist is also a nonchalant detached character whom you will feel no attachment to that acts like a 12 year old. Along with a bizarre pink theme to the whole game. Ladders, chest lids, GPS, UI etc are all pink for some reason (why the pink?)... it feels like the game is maybe content catered to a fringe group of people on a specific side of the political spectrum. Even Doom 2016 had a better story and that's saying a lot. Onto that, this game has plenty of bugs and some technical issues that for a game co-developed by id studios is very unexpected. However not unusual for Avalanche studios. The PC controls can at times feel very unintuitive and ultrawide resolution only works for actual gameplay as the cutscenes and menus will not display at ultrawide. The open world feels empty and tedious with any kind of random encounters and life few and far between. Unless you have a high end GPU and system like my PC I can see how this game will wreck even slightly decent PCs. The game also looks blurry for some reason even with depth of field and motion blur disabled, and you need to turn the sensitivity all the way up to be able to decently aim with a mouse. 3440x1440p resolution at max settings and anti aliasing enabled and the game looks decent but nowhere near decent enough to justify the hardware needed to run it. Driving using keyboard and mouse feels funky and repairing vehicles and other game mechanics is not well explained or explained at all. There's also a ingame store with microtransactions that you can buy using rage coins of which you can buy with real money. It feels completely out of place and was obviously a shoehorned feature put in there due to Bethesda Softwork's greed. DLC, preorder items and online features is locked behind you having to create a Bethesda.net account and linking it to Steam. And even this process sometimes will not work correctly as Bethesda.netis a mess of a launcher and will fail to successfully link to your Steam account. All in all I do not recommend this game. Hard to build up the motivation to progress through the game when you can't relate to or feel any curiosity towards the story at all. Comedy and pink in a id studio and Avalanche game does not go together well. Definitely not when those elements feel like they are there soley for a political message. If you liked Far Cry New Dawn (pink everywhere in post apocalypse?), Anthem (cringy dialogue) or Mass Effect: Andromeda ("my face is tired") then you may like this game.

Dave Rogers Actually RAGE 1 lacking an open world was one of that game’s biggest flaws. Fun car combat, but the overworld was too small to really do a lot of that. Open world games work best when the movement and moment to moment gameplay are good, because then you can keep doing the same thing over and over and still have fun. When you don’t have that, that’s when the open world gets monotonous and dull. Think Far Cry 2 and MGSV.

I really enjoyed the first one but that came out a lot time ago I don't really recall much beyond loving it. This honestly (to at least myself) feels like more of a franchise which was cancelled and sold off where it bounced between multiple companies before one felt like using it. Homefront 2 had the same problem (loved the original as well) but it was thrown between companies forever with the project repeatedly being under development and than cancelled. At the end of it all we where left with a new Homefront game which had nothing but the name in common with the original game. I don't know if this was the case for Rage 2 but it really had that feel going for it.

A neat little trick for making games look as good as they possibly can is to use render-scaling of at least 150% and then turn AA off altogether. With multi-sampling/resolution scaling, you don't need AA, and everything looks sharper and more focused as a result. I've done this with games like Dead Space and Arma 3, and it makes those games look 100% better, with performance increases in some cases. You'd be surprised how much of a performance-hog certain types of Anti-Aliasing are in certain games. As for KZbin vids, when you use higher render-scaling settings, the game is still technically running in whatever resolution you set it at, with all the rendering done at whatever level you set it to and then down-scaled to your set resolution, so doing this won't hurt your vids at all, and considering that you're running a 2080, I doubt it will lower your frame rate that much, if at all. With some games it'll make them perform worse though. Depends on how the game was optimized, and whether it's CPU or GPU-intensive, or both. As for Arma 3, Farming Sim, ETS and ATS, they all perform better with AA turned off and sampling at at least 150%, but with Dead Space, it did tend to slow the game down compared to using conventional settings, but it looks so much better rendered at 200% that I'll gladly take that performance hit. The same performance issue there applies to pretty much any EA game, for some reason, including the rest of the Dead Space trilogy.

Well the game does have difficulty settings, and honestly I just recommend playing on hard. The AI is aggressive on hard.

How does this compare to Bulletstorm (in regards to combat)? To this day I still always tell people the most fun I have had in a game is Bulletstorm, it is so stupid but so insane it is great; slinging men towards you then kicking them into a cactus, or kicking them off a cliff, still makes me so happy (should I be worried by that?). Watching the trailers, and this, it seems very similar, thoughts? Keep up the great work Mac, cutting straight through the BS like a hot knife through butter.

I'd say it's worth it now on sale since Doom Eternal is delayed.

Lets not forget the most important factor Mack. The belly laugh provided by the Rage 2 live band at E3 (Bethesda) last year. Great review of the game.

Rage 2 looks like what I was wishing Doom Eternal would have been.

This game is amazing. I played it first on xbox gamepass on xbox one years ago, and am replaying now on Series X, and Mack was right about the controllers. Even if you are a veteran controller guy you need to spend awhile tuning the sensitivity/deadzone settings because it's all out of whack. It's a detail a lot of devs don't tune at release. But once you find that sweet spot omg this game is like crack. You just can't seem to get your fill. Shooting ppl, jumping and dashing across rooftops only to come down and slam a group of guys, force push, dash melee, grenade, double jump, another slam into a force push. Enemies flipping, some whole, some cartwheeling without an arm or a leg. Some cut in half, everyone flying everywhere, explosions everywhere. When a fight is over you see the carnage. Bodies, body parts strewn about everywhere. Pieces of debris and exploded vehicles littering the battleground. It's so good. It's like a murderous carnival of awesoneness.

It looks like the kind of game that I might actually enjoy if it weren't open world. I get the feeling the map does nothing other than slow everything down and offer up a lot of boring "exploration" and collecting. I'm just sick of open-world action games, they're too drawn out and boring, I can only really stay interested in an open world game if it's an RPG and has that level of story interaction and character development to keep me engaged. Even RDR 2 would have been a slog without the amazing story pulling me along... and Rage 2 looks lacking in that department.
