I don't want EA to die. Don't get me wrong, I also hate their moves in the last 5+ years and I won't support their greed but think about how they were the years before. Many people grew up with their older games. For me, it was NFS. There are so many great games by EA. We just should keep this scandal going through all their shitty games that were supposed to be pay 2 win. Once they see massive drops of their earnings, they will listen to us and try to make us happy again. We can't let them get away and forget everything so fast because then they can just happily continue doing this a few years more. Players have to complain and finally crush their greed. It will be a hard and long way but that was a good beginning. Just don't let them get away with everything. We have the power over the gaming industry. Sadly we barely come together and fight this.

I think battlefield 3 is EA, but I'm not sure. So that one too; however that was the last dice game I've purchased because they've lost their way with EA's influence. Rags, have you looked at how awful The Sims 4's DLC is? I made the terrible mistake of both buying the game at launch and misreading the return policy (I wanted to return it within the week, it was just incomplete). I haven't bought any of the expansion packs or spent any more money on the game. Good thing too, because I just went through and tallied up the prices for the DLC in that game. Up until now all of the coverage has just been outrage over the lootboxes, the pay to win multiplayer, this thing and that thing. But nobody has had the balls to say that it's pretty much our fault for EA doing this. The more people blindly throw money at large gaming corporations through pre-orders without seeing even a glimpse of gameplay. The more people purchase microtransactions and lootboxes. The more common this business model will be in the gaming industry. It will seep into every orifice and infect every cell of every company eventually. Because doing these things show companies that we don't care. We don't care if the thing they are selling is at all good, we don't even need to see how it plays/looks. We will still give them our money. It's only going to get worse unless we drop the "My vote isn't important" mentality You matter because your wallet matters. Don't give ANY company with anti-consumer practices your money. Even if it's part of your favourite franchise.

I'd also add that TF2 allows the trade of said crates along with the items used to open them, the "keys". This allows for an economy akin to trading card games where you have the choice of either opening crates (boosters) for a chance to good loot or buying the item (singles) you want directly. Honestly, TF2, or games like Eve Online, are the basis i use to judge newer games. They give players choices when it comes to spending money, unlike triple A games that are cut and dry and you're certain to get screwed at every turn.

I feel that TF2 is a good example of an FPS game that don't have pay to win characteristics. Sure, there are crates that give the chance of rare items, but those are either hats or skins. Disney was complicit in all of this and only spoke out to hope the backlash will calm down before EP9 comes out. Disney controls all there properties with an iron fist they were shown the games knew about the microtransactions before the game even came out. Disney has final approval of all products bearing there properties so while EA deserves the visceral that is gets but Disney is just as complicit and deserves just as much visceral.

They don't make games, they sell games... The developers make the game while EA focuses on the economics of advertising and selling. No you don't. It literally took me all of about 3 hours on a fresh account to already have replaced my weapons and have a new frame. You can buy weapons, sure, but you can also buy their Blueprints, and just craft them. It's not that hard, and is farm from Pay to Win. In fact, really, the only thing you would ever have to pay for is cosmetics, which are rarely sold by the void trader and events anyway.

I will give you that if you have so many more hours in the game the likelihood of you having stuff that newer players won't have is MUCH higher, but that doesn't make it a pay to win game. I personally have spent too many hours on Warframe, and as a result, I have many prime frames and weapons, most of which I COULD have payed someone for if I really wanted to, but wanting to play the game instead of being a wallet warrior, I ground it out. You could argue that being able to buy a weapon gives an advantage to anyone who does duels or any other PVP game type, which it does, but that is not the main focus of the game experience. The main focus is on PVE, whereas Battlefront has always been a PVP game at heart, something which people can get super competitive about if they really want to. This however proves a problem when they forced to buy a fancy shmansy new gun to do so.

Having come from a relatively poor family, I think one of the best lessons I learned was that sort of restraint. Blizzard's Overwatch, to take but one example, is just as much part of the shitshow and the problem as anything EA pulled. Its lootboxes are every bit as insidious and damn-worthy as Battlefront II's. edit: That's not to say I disagree with the arguments. I very much am on the same boat. But it really is not just EA.

@ 8 Bit Gamer Lootboxes by design consist of a so-called "variable reward loop", which is the core of gambling addiction. That you do not get an advantage against other players is insubstantial to that mechanic: As long as lootboxes contain anything "of value" to a player, they trigger the brain's dopamine response. There's a reason why Overwatch changed its entire revenue model when China introduced legislation to regulate digital gambling.

Radio Free Bavaristan While it does give you that hit of dopamine, lootboxes in OW are easy to get and aren't pay to win. With BF2 the problem is more the fact that it takes ages to get a lootbox. It would take over 4000 hours to get everything. So, yes, while OW is bad, BF2 is SO much worse.

@ Jordan Fegan Not every game with loot, but every game with semi-randomized loot: E.g. every boss that drops "randomized" loot uses this model of "variable reward". WoW does this, as does Borderlands. As someone who played WoW for years, I can tell you that running a boss for dozens of times just to get one item is more of a rule than the exception. and don't believe those runs are made because they're fun. It *is* a way of tying players to a game far longer than they're actually having fun playing it, and it's one of the reason why "data sites" for WoW (thottbot, wowhead et al) were so popular: People wanted to know the odds. Now imagine if Blizzard had given people the option of, instead of running a boss, you could also purchase a "boss box", and you'd have Overwatch's model.

Things I want: That EA loses the licenses they hold hostage. That EA goes bankrupt and that other suits will harvest the remains to the bone. That development teams gives EA the finger instead of accepting them as publisher. That people stop supporting predatory practices, my son loves star wars and wanted me to get Star wars EA 2 and i told him that daddy won't support evil. And would love to see EAs reaction if all the gamers pre-order on a upcoming game just to on the same day simultanously cancel the pre-order and see the money they made turn to dust, not giving them time to disable their online pre-order cancelation feature...

Alireza Ghasemabady rainbow six and overwatch probably have the best systems in my opinion. free DLC with only cosmetic stuff. rainbow six siege allows booster and you can get new operators early, but they are still readily available to buy with intake currency that if you play just kind of casually, you can build up enough for when the next operators come out. and they are all balanced very well so that you don't really need the new operators to win.

Adam W yeah, i get that. but I'm still ok with that provided it goes no further than cosmetic. i mean the worst you're gonna get is some kids saying you still have the standard, normal looking gun. if you can't handle that than i don't know. and of the two i suggested, i much prefer R6, which has no loot boxes system whatsoever.
