Surveys are fun. I remember back in the TERA days we had a survey about Elin armor changes. 10% liked the change, 30% did not want the change, 60% didn't care. Naturally that read as 70% think the current version is fine so you are a loud and annoying minority of 30%. Why view it as 90% would be fine with the original armors and call the initial SJW crowd of 10% for the minority.

Actually I do hate any movement hindrances in competitive games when you have no way of cancelling it. I adapted though, like... do not step in the BIG RED CIRCLE. Still hate it. Damage over time and crowd control actions should always be cancellable if unnavoidable. So good healers are key to win a game... fuck how did she thought about healers not useful in winning games? Most competitive team based games will have healers. They are so important they can mean win or lose.

Yeah, questions are badly presented, insufficient and not specific enought... Personally i would understand it as colorblind mode. Quite important feature for many, but not many games have that at all or have only one general colorblind mode. Only few games go as far as to provide several types of colorblind modes (because there are several specific colorblindness and what would work for one wouldnt work for other)

You said that nothing holds back women from playing games much like nothing holds back men from being child care providers. The first part is true, however there are many, many cases where men are held back simply because they are men. My dad was professionally vetted by the Boy Scouts (now just Scouts) of America to make sure he was safe to go to camp. All adults must do this, including me the second I turned 18 despite having been in my troop since 5th grade. Whatever it makes sense and makes kids safer. However a couple years ago he (my dad) wanted to show up to my little sister's Girl Scout camp (still called Girl Scouts) to surprise her after coming home from a long work trip. Despite being the dad of a girl there, being the husband of the woman in charge of the camp, despite having put a lot of effort and money into the camp, and most importantly despite having been vetted to a much higher standards than the Girl Scouts vet their own leaders, therefore making him legally allowed to partake in such events, he was literally chased out of camp by angry mothers, who I might add themselves were never legally vetted. Simply because he was a man he was not allowed to see my little sister and surprise her. Instead because he's a man he most certainly would have done something evil. (That last sentence is of course sarcastic. He's an amazing father and even though I've moved away he still serves our Scout troop as a leader and instructor of many badges and events.)

Personally I believe that yes he did what he had to for good reasons but he didn't do enough he should have probably set in some kind of law in reality (if at all possible) as well as doing what he did so the universe only allows so many people live at once before causing natural causes of death (IE disease or just death at younger ages in general) to regulate the growth of population so what happened on his homeworld would never happen.

I'll tell you the same thing I told Az when he did this article: I tried to take this 'survey' but I got 4 questions in before they asked for either my race or gender (pretty sure it was gender) and was awarded the no longer care about you 'Thanks for Playing' end card. So since I wasn't part of the demographics they were interested in, my votes were never taken into consideration. For any wondering, I took a survey from EA at the time Az said this survey went out and only got 4 questions on it, which I thought was weird. I've taken other surveys like this before from other places and when they ask for Age/Sex/Race early on and you answer 15-50/Male/White you're not part of what the survey is asking about and your input is not desired. But those other surveys were for things like shopping at a certain store or for product X. Not for a 'general use study' which I would've deemed EA's survey as. Their might have been 2,200+ people quoted but I'd be surprised if 20,000 peoples input was disregarded for not being the demographic wanted.

Your form of competition and entertainment comes from other sources, so you don't require it from online multiplayer. I'm like that too. I liked fighting armies of quick reacting bots vs a handful of players at varying skill levels less, equal, or greater. It's why I appreciated (old) Halo, Battlefield, and CoD's packed feature list that was filled with content to appeal to the different interests of a wide audience. Now every game is tunnel visioned to focus solely on wan multiplayer.

Not a very strong majority, and honestly it's a believable majority. I can easily believe that about half of people would like the idea of more inclusion if asked.

Depends. If they were making new ip's, new characters and stories, 56% sounds about right to have a wide variety of different types of people involved in the story. But if they are retro fitting old series or attempting to sell authentic representations of history with weird things shoved in, I think the figure would be more like 70% no, 25% meh, and 5% yes.

I had an experience similar to Jenny's initial story. I went to play in a Street Fighter-2 tourney at my local arcade when I was wee, and got the same "lol girls don't play games" thing. But instead of feeling insecure and thinking "gosh, maybe I don't belong", I just retorted "You're just afraid I'll kick your ass". And his couple of buddies that were like "yeah, tell her" suddenly were on MY side, going "haha, that'd be hilarious if she owned you dude!" (And no, I didn't win or anything, I came in like 12th out of 20 or so people, but I did beat one of his friends, and we talked about OP characters and stuff afterwards) Little gamer cliques are fickle things, and all it really takes is standing up to it and quite often you'll show you do belong there. Instead of feeling intimidated or out of place, just straighten your spine, stick out your chin and go "no, you fix ME a sandwich". That's all a lot of the male gamers who've given me crap over the years really need honestly. They're posturing, and if you back down or get intimidated, they know you don't REALLY belong there. I've made quite a few friends online over the years who started out doing the "girls don't game, lol" thing. Once they figured out that, yes, I CAN play, and often play pretty well, I've become "one of the guys". It's something that happens whenever ANYONE who doesn't fit the usual mold steps into a hobby or area where they seem a bit out of place. And back in the day, no, there weren't a lot of female gamers. These days? Nobody really bats an eye. Sure, there are some who still do the "girls don't game" or "make me a sandwich" thing, but most of that is just smacktalk. If you give as well as you get, you show that you're just another gamer, rather than "I'm a girl, you have to treat me differently". But that's just my take.
