There are loads of stories with people picking up the hammer and transforming into Thor-lite. In real-world mythology it's very different, of course. People don't fail lifting Thor's hammer because they're unworthy - the hammer was simply made by the dwarves with a purposeful flaw of being too heavy to lift at all, but Thor's strength is so great it doesn't matter to him.
