Remove the sill covers and wheelarch liners. Get a bandfile Black & Decker £50 or Milwarkee £150 -£270 and grind off all external rust. Prime & paint. Sill & D post cavities can be accessed for Lanoguard without drilling any visible holes. Revisit annually because rust never sleeps.

@@chrisbonell487 you’re absolutely right, that’s the once a year approach . My logic here was to make it as convenient as possible to top up the rust proofing treatment without having to grovel around on my knees!

Easier to remove the door latch and then pump in the Lanoguard, once every year and best to do in the summer it will flow better.

Definitely a good job to do in the summer if you’re doing it once a year.

If you haven't done it already buy the plastic caps for the holes

Why not just unbolt the door latch that’s a couple of inches above the hole you drilled?
@Woodyrvf750Ай бұрын
@@Cromwell199 I did take that off to start but it wasn’t going to be easy enough to get the probe in via one of the bolt holes. I also wanted to get easy access to the top of the sill without having to remove the sill cover so figured if I was going to drill one hole on each side I may as well drill two to make the job as quick and simple as possible. This was pretty common practice back in the 70s, 80s and 90s for anyone who cared about the long term condition of their car. Of course the shift personal finance plans has changed that consumer behaviour. Why bother protecting it if it’s not actually yours? Sad really.

@@Woodyrvf750 I top mine up underneath every summer with Lanoguard. Did the inner sills and rear inner arches with Dinotrol. I’ve got rock sliders on mine so it’s pretty easy to access the inner sills, just take a bolt out.

The rich owner sucked the best out of this car and all you're left with is fixing it.
@Woodyrvf750Ай бұрын
@@w.w.trader1813 it was a classic first owner for three years with just the annual service then the second owner, who I bought it from just found the upkeep too much. They did service it every year with a specialist but I think the cost of a DPF clean was the straw that broke the camel’s back for them. It is going really well now though.
