Another fun fact, that “what guy” is Schmidt. The guy that Kirito implied was too dumb to orchestra an ambush/overpower Grasilda. It also explains Kirito’s reaction when Yoko says one of the people of the guild was Schmidt. He’s just an idiot throughout the whole show 😂

@@Ky0kka it’s never explicitly stated. But he is known for being stupid. As I said, Kirito recognized him and was annoyed that they had to deal with him. In this episode, we know Schmidt is present because Kirito uses him as an example to which he screams, “why am I always the example???” Not to mention the “WHAT?!?!” Guy is also there. They also sound pretty similar. It’s been a while so I don’t completely remember my reasoning, but this is part of it.

Just watch the rest, not that the next arc is much in the way of good. YamatoSFX is going to have a _field day_ with that one. I have fairly low standards, since I watch to be entertained, but I will say that when they animated the Fairy Dance Arc (the episodes which finish the season), it was... less than satisfying. I like SAO, but the GGO arc, called phantom bullet, which kicked off the second season, was far better.

@@Airier because author of the light novels is absolute lazy fuck. His name is Reki Kawahara, and Takahata had inserted into this series as a janitor. ( 29:10 ) Also, you're the only one, who get all the movie references. I'm actually amazed. Also also, Kirito actually HAD BUILT A FUCKING ROBOT FOR YUI. As I remember it correctly, it looked like a Mei's robot, but without the engines.

But once a lot of people died than he expected did he regret his plans thinking it was just not worth locking everyone in SAO. The anime had a tendency to get points across poorly and had him say that he just didn’t remember why he did it but what I said above was what he was trying to do

Beauty of this ep is the acknowledgement of the missing Tutorial NPC that was assimilated into Kirito's 1st guild. And name dropping the source material's creator, Reki Kawahara as the Night Janitor mistaken as God by Kayaba.

It's interesting how everything from the start have been building up to this point. It was serious from the start, yet we do not realize because it's "abridged". We take the jokes as random jokes when they were important points of the character development, plot, and the philosophical message of this show. Someone has done an interesting analysis to the writing, the stories, the characters and their developments. Check it out.

Actually, I've looked at quite a few different people breaking down this episode, and The Abridged Series as a whole. And I got to say I agree with them. That said, if you have anyone to suggest, I'm always up for someone new to watch.

One if my favorites is when Kayaba says that the tutorial npc went missing. That was back with the Black Cats with Yui. They took that npc and new player died because they couldn't follow a tutorial.

It's a good starter. Mine was Tenchi Muyo and Ranma 1/2, but Akira and Robotech were the ones that introduced me to anime, and I'm old enough to remember watching Robotech during it's initial cartoon slot, and I first watched Akira as the original release from Orion through it's Sunrise subsidiary. I like SAO because it's a good escapist fantasy, and was entertaining. It has flaws, but I don't expect perfection anyway. I want to be entertained.

The NPCs making up the Moonlit Black Cats being taken from Quest NPC Companions in a similar vein to other Bethesda games like Fallout or Skyrim, along with them getting stuck in a doorframe unable to get through due to pathing issues like what happens in Fallout Games. The Charisma-Boosting hat being a stat used exclusively in Fallout Games. Pina referring to her master Silica as "Dovahkiin" referring to The Dragonborne from Skyrim. Tiffany speaking of the video of Kiritos' solo boss fight by punctuating "As was Foretold By The Scrolls" which is a common saying in Elder Scrolls.

Anime aside, the real reason why Kayaba Akihiko created Aincrad and the NervGear in the 1st place is to make his childhood dream of a castle in the sky into reality. And when he 1st dreamed of this, he didn't want to pollute it magic because his vision was a world of Blades (thrown objects like Darts, Shurikens, Boomerangs and Chakrams can be bladed as well you know). And the original source had nary any mention of fantasy races, but Reki corrected that in The Progressive Series, where there are Elves, Magic Arts (which are the degraded form of Magic that was lost when the Aincrad was formed, of which, the Healing Crystals and Teleport Shrine are a part of). Seriously, read The Progressive series as it introduces Sword Art Online in a whole new light, like the creation of Laughing Coffin, where Kirito acquired his Martial Arts Skill, the various differences the Release Version of SAO has when compared to the Beta, and the steady progress of his relationship with Asuna (unlike in the original source where the City Murder Mystery brought them close)
