This is why there needs to be super-progressive taxation to prohibit individuals and corporations (who are not people) from being able to try to force their lies on people. When you have people who are dependent on those corporations of rich people for a job or their town's livelihood, they will pretend to go along with this stuff. We have got to make sure that no one is so poor they cannot sustain their lives, and that no one is so rich that they can dominate another's life ... government needs to be about people first and money and property second. We need to tax uber-rich people so they cannot take over the country.

And my dad was in the military, so my parents were certainly not telling me it was all bullshit. Coming to a head at the 1968 Democratic convention, which I watched live, and I didn't need anyone to explain it to me.........Houston, er I mean Chicago, we have a problem. Now we have instant mass communication, and the general public seems dumber than a fifth grader. I mean, really..........was anybody shocked that Nixon really was a crook? (Watergate hearings......which I also watched in real time...........I can't even imagine the junk that would pass for news nowadays in reporting on Watergate). But I do get what you're saying..........our news was still filtered, there were definitely cover-ups. But we weren't spoonfed. Also magazines were abundant in my house, often with different perspectives.

+j7286 During Viet Nam, we had a military chaplain come to our church to talk about the war, and he stated clearly that the US public was being lied to by the federal government, that there were many more casualties, that there were other things covered up, and that we were not winning and would not win. The problem is Middle Age. There's an episode of Remington Steele where a middle aged newsman complained on how now (the 1980s) everyone was getting their news from TV shows that are no more than entertainment shows catering to ratings and how it's not real reporting like he used to do when he was writing for a newspaper.
