So here’s why losing their mod status is worse than it seems: If that happens, the Reddit Admins will replace their mod team with hand picked mods from a group of like 10 people who control a majority of the top subreddits on Reddit, all of whom are the most toxic and ungodly individuals you will ever meet that karma farm and use their status to boost their own posts. It’s essentially a backdoor way of closing the subreddit without actually closing it.

We know now thanks to a meeting between r/Blind mods and u/spez that u/spez is not actually allowing 3rd party apps blind people use. They have basically said that the apps do not meet the standards for accessibility and if R/blind says that, I'm believing them cause they're probably some of the best people you could meet. Honestly it sucked when the meeting happened to see the news they brought which basically told us spez isn't actually listening to people's accessibility complaints and they're already experimenting to prevent mobile users from using the browser version of reddit and into their horrible app that really sucks. We also have no association with the hackers and have been trying to look into it ourselves. It seems more likely to us that the hackers were waiting for reddit to be vulnerable to reveal the information they had... you can see everyone frustrations on the Modcoord reddit if you want to. It's where most discussions outside of discord happen and where most of the important information is spread.

From my understanding, one of the reasons why they wanted to charge companies like Apollo was that they were adblocking the ads on reddit and putting their own ads which was getting in the way of them making money. Another thing that I read from a coder, is that Apollo's way of their data requests are very inefficient so they are putting more stress on the reddit servers than they need to be, about 10x more than it needs to be. So they could reduce the amount of money they have to spend every year with making their data requests more efficient.

They could do a number of things to make the API more efficient, work with developers to lighten the load, or split ad revenue etc. but they won't because the whole pricing scheme was malicious and meant to do exactly what it's doing now.

Meanwhile, youtube is too big to fail and doesn't have any coordination. There's a language barrier and because KZbin has no competition they can't go to another site. The most people can do is complain about it in a KZbin video. So basically, it's extremely easy on twitch and extremely hard on KZbin.

I mainly frequent lgbt subreddits and the moderation there is to genuinely ensure that it remains a safe space. While the mods are lenient as it’s full of people who are both just started with educating themselves and people who’s gone through it all and is no longer phased. But still, if the mods of those subreddits were to be replaced then that security would be gone. Granted, most people just migrated to other forum sites.

This is why I don't use any 3rd party apps if at all possible. Instead, I write custom CSS and custom JS scripts that I run on my desktop which trigger when I load particular sites. You can't remove elements from the structure of a website's HTML (but you can add them!), but you can easily do things like entirely change the UI / UX and add simple scripts that make posts titled with certain words just not get rendered, or even sort things how you please. There is no way for a web site to block this. This is the real reason you should learn to code.
