The Sunny redesign does definitely look a lot like Applebloom, the bow in the hair definitely sells it, but I actually like it! The idea of her maybe being a distant descendent that has a striking resemblance is fun! I like it!

Honestly, I feel like a lot of the issues from G5 stem from the fact that it’s supposed to take place in the same world as G4. One of the things that definitely bothers me the most is why in the world is Equestria not covered in a blizzard because it was established in the G4 that if the earth ponies, unicorns, and Pegasi stopped getting along, the Wendigos would show up. Another thing is what the heck happened to all the non-pony sentient races? One of my favorite parts about G4 was just how many other species we got to see that were either pony-adjacent like the Kirin or Changelings or completely separate from ponies in general like the Griffins and Yaks. It’s just sad that they’ve pretty much reduce the only other non-pony species to be some in my opinion badly designed dragons. I never grew up with MLP G1-G3 so I don’t know if those gens were supposed to be connected but it’s just so bizarre that the creators decided to make this current gen related to the previous one considering how many different things G5 and G4 have from each other

Omg I’m so glad you did this. Gen 5 was honestly such a let down and I’ve been loving MLP since I was very young (gen 4 child but I enjoy the earlier generations too). I just wish more time and thought was put into it than just something that feels thrown together last minute in order to please fans.

I LOVED Hitch! His colours qre so nice and i kind of like hos charactwr in the movie. I like that he cares so much about Sunny and how he reluctantly joins the team towards the end. I also think making one of them a boy is fun! His personality seems unique to G5 in ways that i cant really say for some of the others, especially Zip and Izzy..

I don't know if you heard of her, but in the show, they also introduced a new character called Misty Brightdawn who I think was on the evil side first but is now a part of the mane 5 (/6)! So if you want to redesign Hitch as well, you could put him in a video with Misty and then you've got them all in 2-ponies-per-video-videos :)

I feel like mlp G5 is another example of when *shows/franchises* get stretched too far, such as spongebob, Monster high, strawberry shortcake, etc. All the second to last versions we're given were amazing; but the very last version ultimately mucked up their legacy.

as much as i like your new sunny design, it does feel like an aged up apple bloom design like your friends pointed out. no, the pelt and mane colors arent identical, but the relationship they have to each other is functionally identical enough. it doesnt help that she also has round hair tied in a bow, even if the bow/satchel are a different color from AB's.

One thing that always bugged me about the G5 redesigns and new characters, is that the names are SO BASIC. It’s not even like how G3 or G1 was with the naming schemes which was more generic and less character driven. But at least they made some sense? I have a same gripe as you with Sunny and the others, it just feels like they picked names at random without any thought. The movie was actually pretty fun, but unfortunately the 3d show itself has a lower budget, and often looks weirdly uncanny valley at times. The 2d one for G5 actually do look to uncanny valley, it’s the issue as that one character design meme with a dog character’s mouth placement. There’s a lot of simple changes that could’ve been done to make them more, normal looking? It’s a lot, but you did amazing with the redesigns, would honestly loved if you tackled more worse off designs like G5’s villain. Now THATS something that needs to be fixed 😅

I honestly want to make an entire au of a broken down Equestira. This is surrounded by Wedingos since everyone lived in disharmony. Sunny is one of the leaders of an earthpony barbarian tribe that protects the others from any threats like the Wedingos and discovers Izzy in the snow mistaking her for a earthpony and takes her in. Once she realizes at her hut, she threatens Izzy until Izzy persuade her in letting her live. After noticing a small change of it he less snow, Sunny realize it was the friendship between her and Izzy that made it easier on the tribe. The two set off to befriend a pegasus to see if any change occurred. (the rest is basically the movie). Then after the events of the movie, they find traces of a map that leads to the everfree forest. The 5 set out to visit Zecora’s old hut and discovered another Zebra that told the tales of s1-s10 in the eyes of the main 6 and Zecora. She set out missions to the 5 to go to old Pony landmarks like Ponyvil, Crystal Empire, Canterlot, etc. To find traces of the past to fix everything. Misty eventually joins as well but yk ain thought that far ahead.

izzy's locs 😍 honestly... as much as i love g4, even that gen lacked diversity quite glaringly. pretty much all the characters felt... white. and they really could have used a few more hair types. as someone who is not white and does not have white hair, would really love to see more representation for kids who feel the way i did growing up, and still feel fairly often even now. hopefully in future gens we'll see some more diversity and hair types 🙏 anyway love your designs!! they're all so pretty

I love seeing how people go in different directions with redesigns! Really shows how people interpret and reinterpret the same thing. Honestly, I always thought Izzy's original design was the cutest, ESPECIALLY when they give her glasses. Although Pinkie Pie has far more depth, I think Izzy was my preferred version of the bubbly archetype. It stemming from her isolation was an interesting twist. But the contrast you make with her and Sunny, as well the crafty-ness is so cute. The cutie marks? Perfection. And the fact you gave Sunny a white muzzle like the sun! It's got me thinking how I would have done them. Since her name's Sunny Starscout, maybe I would have made her more of an explorer, fitting how she's forging a new path for everyone? Still! I kinda disagree with Izzy and pinky being exactly the same. I’m sure other people have said this but. Izzy isn’t actually that good at friendship, she’s upbeat, but people don’t love it, she doesn’t seem to be absolutely chasing friendship and joy of others. She just is loud and cheery. Whereas pinky lives to make others laugh and people love her. She has friendship come really really easily to her. Socializing is her entire life. Idk if that made sense.

I think the “Sunny” in Sunny Starscout’s name is to represent her personality. She’s sunny, she’s bright and happy all the time. Izzy seems to be slightly taller and thinner than the others.

Small correction Make your mark is the 3d show, the 2d show is tell your tale. Both are after the movie. (The 3d show was the one that got canceled) From my understanding people like Hitch and Zipp. (Zipp actually is kinda a brainiac/schollarly type in the show from my understanding. Still keeping those RD type traits but also having that instead of sports goals). But everyone else is a tossed basket in terms of enjoyability. Hitch is my favorite but I hear he is quite underutilized:/ (I’ve not watch the show myself, my time was better spent elsewhere).

Aww these designs are so cute! Definetly better than the original in my opinion. I especially love Izzy and don't mind at all that you changed her more, the idea of making the "main" duos contrast bigger was good. I think Izzy couldve had kind of a Rarity type of personality, but more upbeat and maybe even crazy (in a good way) so that shes still kinda a positive character, but has a distinction with Sunny

I like Izzy more than Pinkie tbh. Pinkie Pie creeps me out, and it's not because of fan content, I find her unsettling in the actual show too. Especially in Party of One.
