The ironic thing is that the catch-phrases, "Break Molds" "Live Vividly" and "Delete Normal", actually work for a prestige car brand like Jag. It's the visuals that go with it that are so hideous they are funny, and no one can take them seriously. Images of a super-cool car with lots of style would actually fit those phrases, and resonate with people who actually like cars. It sounds like some ad executive got his slides mixed up with his kid's homework project.

Jaguar always had a little bit of a sense of humor, and a sense of being different. Very different when compared with boring, serious German cars. I think they succeeded at getting people's attention. I have hear from UK channels, from people working at Jaguar that their new models will be quite different, but very interesting and they are hyped to see people's reaction. The motto “Copy Nothing” is deeply rooted in the thoughts of the founder Sir William Lyons, who always emphasized that a Jaguar must be unique and distinctive: “A Jaguar should be a copy of nothing.” But in this commercial they went a bit further because if there's nothing there you can't copy it, so there's no car and no car is completely climate neutral and completely woke. That's absolutely awesome. now I understand Jaguar will be the first car company that no longer sells cars and still wants to make money with them.

As a former Network exec, you should also know how long some of these 'rebranding' efforts can take to fully execute and how much money can be sunk into something like this. I remember back in the day the marketing agency I worked for spent millions and millions on research and development for rebranding the company which basically resulted in a new custom font and a new shade of purple and it took over a year to do that soup to nuts for a company you've never heard of. Now think about how long it would take for a company like Jaguar. The embracing and rejection of DEI driven decision making has been shifting way too rapidly for any company to quickly maneuver the cultural feelings of it. Also, if it is an intentional joke, there would be some indication of such. Most likely, what this is the execution of a marketing strategy that was dreamed up while DEI was still a major factor and Jaguar showed up to the party too late with something people have moved on from.

Looks like the very low budget 1965 Lost in Space tv series. Same color palette and set decor and fashion but weird generic techno beats. I appreciate your analysis of this font styling, very insightful.

On second viewing, I think the boulder the hairdressers are sitting on is the latest Jag. Props to the ad campaign for digging up Andy Warhol and having him paint something.

I agree: that definitely was a musical upgrade at 3:30. The video, on the other hand, looks like a New Order video from the late 80s. Which means it's really not all that fresh or "mould" breaking.

I agree that this is a marketing prank. Picture this, next week a new ad comes out with a large TV playing the ad in the background when an angered guy walks out with a sledgehammer. The guy walks over to the TV and starts smashing it to bits. Next, behind the shattered TV appears a new Jag with the caption "Just Kidding".
