Gary Richrath and his Les Paul. It's what gave REO it's heaviness. Apparently Gary and Kevin clashed over the sound from either being Kevin's crooning songs or Gary's preference for a heavier sound.

Loved Speedwagon, never got to see them live till I was working red carpet security for Super Bowl Saturday Night Pary hosted by John Travolta and Marshall Faulk in 2008. REO was performing and I told Mr Travolta I’d never seen them live so it was a treat I could hear them outside. Right before they went on, I was called inside and got to see the show with Travolta…It was great and very gracious and worth the wait.

Yea, it's always great to work security at concerts, especially at an amusement park where you get almost a dozen acts coming through, not only do you get to see them for free, but they actually pay you. My problem is I could never enjoy it, once I switched that mindset into security mode, I was locked in. In other words, as a fan, I'd be like, OMG, that's such and such, not so much anymore now that I'm a lot older. Like I saw The Jets last night and could have run over to get their autograph and pictures, but I'm like, I'm not 16 anymore, they're people just like me. But as security, no matter who it is, I go into protect mode. There was one time I was totally surprised though, I wasn't in awe, just shocked, but there was some kind of company announcement, a pretty big one from what I gathered, the entire company shut down, we had about 10 officers, I was a flex with about a half dozen others, but we weren't told what the meeting was about, just stand there and check badges. So I'm literally the last one posted, like the very last one, and I was mad too because I saw a few of the officers had really good positions, and I got stuck in the entryway leading into the cafeteria, all the doors were locked, no one allowed in, just stand there. I don't know how long I had been standing there, it seemed like forever, but all of a sudden this large group of suits came walking in, i mean, there were suits, along with cameramen, just a ruckus, and I was like wtf? I couldn't see what they were fussing about, or even who they were talking to, I couldn't see anything, but then again, I wasn't trying too hard. So this lasts a few seconds until they start to go into the cafeteria, the red sea kind of parts and standing right there in the middle was Steven Spielberg, Once again, I was like wtf? The kind of security I always did was the typical office building security, sit at a desk, check id's, walk around the building once an hour, it's not everyday Steven Spielberg just walks into your AO.

This song takes me back. I remember when it came out in the fall of 1980. I was in tenth grade and on a certain night at two o clock in the morning I snuck out of my house in Lenexa, Kansas through the back door leading out to the screened in backyard porch. There were four foot tall snowdrifts and it was freezing with a light breeze blowing, but other than the sound of the breeze blowing and the rustling of the bare trees in our backyard all was quiet. The night sky was overcast but the moons glow could be seen through the clouds. It was then that I felt an incredible happiness that I have not felt since then.

When I was 13-14 I made a video for my brother's birthday and I used this song for backround music. In this video i put pics of my parents, my brother and me and all the memories we had, so it ended up being a family appreciation video. Now I am 18 and listening to this song makes me think about nothing other than how much I love my family, and how simple life was back then and how much we've grown.

My sister I can only imagine your pain but, I hope this helps. A very wise person once told me that the person isn't really dead as long as one person remembers them, they just aren't as close as we would like them just now. The person told me this after I lost a very close friend to an OD when I was 18. I didn't get it at the time. Time passed and they were right. It doesn't take much of a trigger to bring back the memories and they are right next to you again. When we get to the other side and we find that person we lost we will be complete again. That wise person was my Mom and she had a way about her that seemed to make things make sense even when nothing made sense. Thanks Mom, I was listening, even if it didn't look that way at the time. Be well and safe, peace to you and yours.
