Great video. The music is as scary as the job. I would prever the underground Mario Bros music and then the Mario Bros home free after each torque sequence.

Hi! You’re vids are bloody brilliant! Replaced my 300 tdi head gasket some years ago using your video guidance, however since then I have brought a td5 and was wondering if you could do a head gasket tutorial for a td5 defender? Regards Matt.

Great vids, count me in for buying DVD or paying for downloads. It would easily be worth it. I'm in the states but I'll gladly buy from Paddock Spares if they keep you talking about the 200 tdi.

When doing the first 40Nm we see that the remaining untorqued bolts of the sequence slacken back from finger tight as the gasket pulls down. Similarly, when we get to #18 then #1 has also slackened because the gasket has compressed further since it was first tightened to 40Nm. I would tend to check them all again in sequence and probably a third time so that they are all starting at 40Nm before the 60 deg phases. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks for the vid as it had some extra things I had not thought about like not dropping the bolts in! Cheers

Not too sure how detrimental this is, but when I was working for JLR it is indeed something I liked to do. Just gives you that extra piece of mind, although torque wrenches aren't entirely accurate depending on how carefully you use them, how well they're made or whether or not they've been calibrated recently or even correctly. 300tdi, you're likely in the safe zone regardless. I used to be particular on the late 5.0l v8 as they were 50k AUD for a new one... stakes are high.

Hi, I've been told that after refitting the cylinder head and going through tightening sequence, I need to re-tighten the screws, after driving for couple of kilometers, to compensate for the tolerances. Is that true or not? Thanks
@trailerfitter29 жыл бұрын
George Gutnik No that is old cast in heads that need that doing and not on all either. Once it is right it is tight. Nothing said in the workshop manual about extra torques after getting the engine to running temperature.

***** Great thanks for fast reply. Thumbs up for all the job you've done on the videos. They are one of the reasons I bought my Disco 1, due to having high quality material.

Is there a difference in the torque settings between composite head gasket and a metal layered gasket on a 300Tdi engine
@trailerfitter29 жыл бұрын
+Allan Spriggs No it is the same.
@theNEWTful9 жыл бұрын
+Allan Spriggs According to some people on the net they have been informed by Paddock Spares that the pattern is different. I have a britpart MLS and am dubious about using the standard settings..its not the same gasket as the composite, hence why many people using this gasket seem to experience cold leaking. Im still trying to get Paddock to find out but they are being difficult.
