I just got a new baby one of these and repotting and knowing what the right soil to use is, is very important to me right now. Its roots are already coming out from the bottom of its tiny pot.

Thank you for this video, it helped us repot our parlour palm for the first time. However you posted this video 2 years ago, have you got an update yet please?. 😄
@allenpost3616 Жыл бұрын
Aye, I was wondering the same. I have one about the same size as his I'm currently repotting and I'm thanking I'll divide my root clump into to help with root aeration. I hope his is still doing well.

Hi @@allenpost3616 oh cool, fingers crossed for you as well the that he see our comments and is pushed on to making an update 👍 I never considered you could divide the plants. Ours is far too young I think to consider that yet, we have only had Pollyanna 15 months 😄✌️
@allenpost3616 Жыл бұрын
@@thehussynexgen Aye, division propagation can be done if you can avoid damaging the roots. I however was unable to divide mine as my root ball was a dense mass of robust fine feeder roots, so I left them together to avoid causing harm. 👍

Make sure it's in free draining compost and allow the top layer of compost to dry slightly before watering. Keep it somewhere with bright indirect light, so no direct sunshine, but they can also do well in low light conditions. Feed once a month in spring and summer with a balanced liquid feed, or one high in nitrogen.

My Chamaedorea Elegance Palm tree I planted in potted 2 weeks ago I noticed leaves are fading. It is like the leaves are a fade green with with faded white mixed in. It is not a fungus as it looks like a natural color in leaves. I have it under grow light but not real bright. I keep check if needs watering so don't know what is causing it or what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
@Gardeningat58N Жыл бұрын
Normally I would expect that to happen if the light level is too high. Are the leaves closest to the grow light the worst?
@carmaela2689Ай бұрын
Either it is being burned by high light OR it is sucking away its own leaves to reserve some of the nutrients. Lots of palms do that.

when I've repotted by parlour palms for the first time I try to break up the individual ferns to give them more space. When they come from the shop the are usually packed in tightly and I find that strangles them a bit - do you find this as well?
@Gardeningat58N4 жыл бұрын
I have done that with some in the past. The other thing I sometimes do it cut a few off at the ground level to kill them off without disturbing the roots of the existing plants. I've left these as I want them to all grow from the same point, although I'm sure a few will die as they are smothered by the larger palms.

@@Gardeningat58N thank you - yeah, that;s a good idea. One I repotted recently still seems a bit overcrowded so might just trim them back. Thanks for the tip!

Hi, I recently received this plant as a gift. It is still a little about 25-30 cm. The question is how many times a week should be watered? And when should I feed it? I have no idea 🙈
@Gardeningat58N4 жыл бұрын
I can't say how often to water as it depends on pot size, temperature and light levels. But check the compost regularly and water the plant once the top 1-2cm has dried out. In spring and summer feed it with a houseplant feed, balanced fertiliser, or a fertiliser high in nitrogen. How often to feed depends on light levels and temperature, if is in a dark location feed it once in spring and twice in summer. If it has good light levels and is in a warm location where its growing quickly you can feed it every two weeks. Follow the instructions on the packed of fertiliser for how much to use each time. It won't need feed in autumn or winter unless you live in a warm sunny country.

How can I make my palm fuller. It only has two trunks
@Jessica-yy6ep2 жыл бұрын
How big is the palm now? I have just bought one, very small at the moment but look forward to it being this big!
@Gardeningat58N2 жыл бұрын
It's probably about a third larger, I have it in a very dark area of my house so it's not growing very quickly. It can survive in very low light levels, but grows fastest if it grows in bright light away from strong sunshine.

Hi, I bought it recently from superstore, and it looks like more than 15-20 plants. Shall I pot them in separate pots?
@Gardeningat58N3 жыл бұрын
You can if you want to make more plants, just be very careful because the roots are fragile and easily broken. Often they are so close together that its hard to separate without loosing most of the roots.

My palm isn't in a good condition. The bottom leaves are discolouring and drying and some of the top ones are browning. It's not in direct sunlight and I water it when the soil is dry and give it a good mist here and there. I dont know how to rescue it. Please help.
@Shadow.1722 жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert but I do own a parlour palm and I usually wait until most of the soil is dry but not all of it, check about an inch or 2 deep if it's dry water it, my palm does just fine this way. Mines in bright indirect light, check for pests too just incase, also check the roots if they are out-growing the pot, that might cause an issue. Also based on some research I've found out misting doesn't do anything for humidity.

Is it okay to keep those dead/unhealthy roots? I’ve seen people repot by taking out as much of the old soil as possible and others just put it straight in like it was in the old one the same way you did. Are both of these right ways to do it?
