You are a legend. 7 weeks complaining that the pressure was too high causing mask leak and being unable to breath properly, I watch this 1 video and I have 2 consecutive nights of 7 & 8 hours sleep with my AHI less than five both nights. My wife was expecting me to give up due to lack of help but not now. Thank you so much.

Holy smokes. There is so much I needed to learn before I got started!! This has helped so much!! Setting the max pressure was a godsend. I would have low (ish) apneas when I started but I would wake up early in the morning with the pressure so high it was practically blowing out my face!! I adjusted this and now sleep through the night completely with low apneas. The med tech/salesman that sent me home with this the first night didn't explain this to me and seemed to just want to shove the unit in my hand and get me out the door. This makes fine tuning (and overall success) possible!! Thanks so much for this!!

Thank you. I recently purchased ResMed Airsense 10 and was having trouble with dry mouth. The dry mouth was so bad that my cheeks were sticking to my gums and my mouth was sealed shut. There was a complete lack of saliva in my mouth. I never had this problem with my ResMed S9 and the same mask. Because of this video, I was able to revise the settings on Airsense 10 after checking the settings on my old ResMed S9. The EPR was set to off on the new machine and set on 3 on the old machine. The maximum pressure was set to 20 on the new machine and 12 on the old machine. The ramp time was set to auto on the new machine and 45 minutes on the old machine. Once I made the updates my leakage dropped in one night to over 30 to under 2 and there were no issues with dry mouth.

Thanks very much Nick for this hugely useful info. I have had a CPAP for a number of years now and have had to rely on CPAP staff from my local hospital on a once a year basis. They never told me about the secret technician’s screen, and neither did the manufacturers. Seems the idea is we are all idiots and will end up messing our CPAP machines up if we know how to configure them, which is of course nonsense. My old machine (a Philips remstar) broke down recently and the hospital supplied me with a new ResMed AirSense 10. After the first night I had 5.1 AHI. The second night it went to 9.5. I was desperate for help, but knew it was going to be impossible to actually see anybody at the hospital so I resorted to KZbin. I was amazed that you had produced such a great youTube site explaining how to correctly access and set all the options for myself. After taking your advice for a couple of nights I managed to get my AHI Settings down to 1.4. I couldn’t believe that ResMed were trying to shut down your site. For many years I had suffered being woken by overly high pressures almost blowing my mask off. Now because of your site I don’t need to suffer that anymore. Thank you!

Brilliant! Thank you SO much Nick, all of your videos have helped me greatly. I am a newbie to all this, having only recently been diagnosed with moderate (when on my side) to severe (when on my back) OSA. I bought the ResMed AutoSense 10 for her device and I could not find anything in the manual about the clinical menu to fine-tune the settings. Your videos have been a game changer by giving me not only the knowledge but also the confidence to tweak the settings to improve my quality of sleep. My AHI are now consistently low - usually below 1, with the highest at 2.8. My main challenge now is to try to reduce the dreaded aerophagia effects... my extremely loud snoring and snorting has now been replaced by extremely loud sounds from the other end! :) Clearly I need to do some more tweaking to the settings and will be guided by your videos. Thanks again Nick, it is wonderful to see how much you are helping other people's lives. Cheers!

@@calming.goat5 Agree that most people should go through their doc first, and everyone should let the doc know you've made (or want to make) changes. I'm a physician, but not a pulmonologist or sleep expert, and appreciate the information, but I can see how many people could defeat the purpose of their therapy with the wrong settings. ("Nick" DOES say to be sure the nightly AHI (Events/hr.) doesn't go above five.)

You just saved me from buying a new CPAP machine. The section where you press the Nav button and the Home button at the same time showed me how to fix the problem I had. Nick, wonderful tutorial. However, I suggest that before anyone makes changes to limit the upper pressure values that they download and populate their data into and understand the OSCAR app. I find that although my 90th percentile is X, that my value to overcome most incidents might actually be X+2. This can allow your machine to use its algorithm to overcome the incident rather than be maxed at its 90th percentile value. Remember that in today's medical market its is the PATIENT that must control their medical program. So good to be able to get into this machine and adjust it. I am new to this (one week) but am trying to learn and understand quickly. You have helped enormously. Thank you. BTW, the manufacturers should be thanking you not harassing you. I will remember this when I seek my next machine.

Readjust ur air pressure settings. Having epr off is actually a good thing. Best thing I've found is you find the air pressure that u don't feel like ur suffocationg on your low pressure but also comfortable to breathe out but still able to feel air in ur lungs. Then on ur high pressure settings move it up by one cause if u have an auto its gonna raise ur pressure if it feels like u need it. But this is why companies have built in epr for people that can't adjust. Problem is epr set to 3 can cause problems like central sleep apnea from no air in ur lungs. If u still have machine filling ur lungs with air that comfortable chances of having issues go down

Thank you so very much this tutorial. I so needed to get my pressure number down and I so knew it. Now I can take a look at how things go every night and after a week make another further decision. After losing 20 kilos my sleep went backwards massively and they turned up the pressure from 14 to 16 and I'm like a bloody balloon every morning with aerophagia, if I manage to tolerate it overnight. I changed to a nose pillow mask at the same time and have not been able to tolerate that at all for any length of time over 30 minutes. So kept switching back to the full face simplex mask. It feels so good to have the information required to fix it myself. It almost feels like the sleep scientists discourage you from actually learning how to manage the settings. At the same time its almost impossible to get to see a respiratory doctor so glad I can now work this out for myself. YOUR tute has made me feel very empowered about looking out for my own health. For that I THANK YOU

Thanks for the great tips. I understand my machine a lot better. I'll share a tip that has helped me. I use a nasal mask and always had problems with mouth breathing and leaks. I hate full face masks and straps. I use 3m micropore medical tape and tape my mouth shut and it works. Helps to be clean shaven.

Awesome vid mate 👍 I’ve been suffering from stomach pain/bloating lately, my events per hour are always under 2 so I’m gonna start reducing my max pressure a bit & see if I get less stomach pain 👍👍👍

Excellent!. I used this clinical menu to wean myself into CPAP use. starting with EPR maxed, long ramp time and keeping my max pressure to 7. 2 days later I went to 8, a week later to 9. I don't do ramp at all now and have the min set to the max of 6. EPR off. thanks for the essentials tip i will turn down my max pressure to see how it goes. 11.4 on my report, was set at 17 max

I've had this very machine for two years now and I absolutely love it.... except for a few very minor probs. I've been concerned about how it may compensate for altitude. If I go to the mountains, I obviously need more pressure to get the same therapy as I get closer to sea level. All the so-called experts have told me that this machine automatically compensates but so far, I haven't experienced that. I also have a very old CPAP machine that a friend gave me. The output on it is completely manual and it is very easy to just crank up the pressure when I need it. I'm actually getting to the point where I prefer the old machine to my much newer Air sense 10. ....I don't know.... maybe I've still got much to learn.

I've had cpap for 7 years. Usually my low pressure i have set at 10 and high is set to 13 if it needs to go that high but doesn't. I recently turned off my EPR after using it for 7 years with it set to 3 on My resmed s9 auto. When I turned it off I noticed I had to turn my pressure way down cause now it was too much air goin in and couldn't breathe out cause it was just too much volume of air in my lungs. So I lowered it down to finally settling on 8. Good number to keep me breathing but also able to exhale but I noticed doing this was it keeping my air way full of pressure. Where as when I used epr at 3 id lose all that. Now think about that for a sec logically. If ur losing all ur air from epr set too high that can cause problems like central sleep apnea. I gotta say I'm glad I turned mine off.

Hi Judy, just a bit of advice for the future. You don't need to ever change your cpap machine unless it is DEAD. I have some customers who are doing fine on machines that are 15 years old. If it keeps pumping air then you're doing fine. Cheers. Nick

Just found this video and I’ve been complaining to my apnea clinic since I started 4years ago that the high pressure was waking me up multiple times a night and getting fobbed off. My max pressure was set to 20 and my average pressure was at 11.1. I’ve reduced it to 15 tonight to see how I go. Thanks so much for finding the clinical menu ❤
