However, all this I have mentioned still doesn't mean Sakura is center material, you can have great stage presence and not be center material.

Instead of rigging line ups, i think the final lineup should ultimately be decided by the judges. Yes, fans should have some influence, but they shouldnt decide the final lineup, because honestly, survival shows are popularity contests, not talent contests, so even if the most talented members were picked by fans, i doubt it would be for their skills. Also, kpop fans probably dont know of different vocal tiers and stuff like that, and which idols would work well as a group, something the judges would know.

Opinion 2: Being the IT girl has never been about talent, in the past, and it still doesn't. No IT girl has ever been labeled as such because of their talent, but because of their visuals, popularity, marketability, and influence. Before, it could've been considered to be Yuna (itzy), but ever since Wonyoung debuted in IVE she quickly took that spot to the point where her IT girl status can't be compared to other idols

This might be an unpopular opinion but i never really believed Mnet rigged the center spot cause they didn’t want a foreign center. It just makes no sense and there’s no proof to support these claims, it just seems like something salty Sakura stans throw around just to discredit Wonyoung. If Mnet had a problem with Japan they would have never made a show in collaboration with AKB and their idols. There’s literally no solid proof they didn’t want a foreign center, so i’m not gonna believe baseless claims when there’s no evidence.

Our favorite ktuber is back once again spitting truth. First of all, yes, I am SO tired of this narrative that 4th gen is untalented, just because there is a strong focus on the visual performance aspect, that doesn’t mean there is 0 of anything else, on the contrary, IMO this generation is the most diverse ever, there are strong dancers, performers, vocalists, models ( cause yes that matters too! ) etc, anything that you could ever want, there is for you to stan. Second, Wonyoung IS the IT Girl of the 4th gen, the fact that it’s even under debate tells you enough of how seriously this title is given to her. An IT girl cannot be manufactured, Starship did not set itself out to make her that, she JUST became one, just like Jennie and Suzy, for whatever reason, people care about every single move they make, and you cannot force people to be obsessed with you, they either are or they aren’t. Also, I see a lot of stans of other groups say how their fav is the IT girl of the 4th gen because they are more ‘liked’ but that means nothing because being an IT girl is not just about the love you get it’s also about the hate. For example, Lisa is way more popular and loved than Jennie but she does not have the same kind of impact Jennie has on the kpop community & general public. And third, I am so sick and tired of the Lia slander like what do ya’ll have with this girl? She is a good vocalist, has a beautiful vocal tone that adds so much to ITZY’s songs and is not even a bad performer. She improved a lot but it’s like with IVE, people will never give ITZY the credit they deserve, constantly nitpicking at them to find a problem. I feel like the kpop community is dead set on a narrative about them and won’t let go, I am afraid that even if the girls have a great song in the future people will still call it a flop just because it’s the thing to say about ITZY. So tired.

It bothers me so much how people treat Lia because i swear male idols aren’t held to such high standards. If a male idol is a main vocalist and he’s not that great of a dancer people are okay with it and they accept the fact he’s mainly focusing on his vocals, but when it comes to female idols it’s like they’re always expected to be good at everything and to always be all rounders. As for Wonyoung, like you said, just the fact that her haters ALWAYS bring up her name to try and prove she’s not an it girl just tells you she’s the standard for it girls.

I believe that if a member has very few lines, he needs to have a lot of screen time and center to compensate. If a main vocal must have more lines, it would be fair for a main dancer to have more prominence in the mv (both in quantity and quality) to balance it out. I wouldn't mind that certain members sing a little bit (like 5 seconds) if they have more center and screen time than the members who sing more.

1. Not to mention that a lot of 4th gen groups are involved with the creative process of their music such as Skz, Ateez, Idle, LE SSERAFIM, AESPA, treasure, TXT, and even New Jeans. Majority of first and second gen groups during their era would have never even thought of picking up a pen or producing their own music for their groups album. 2. Whoever made that opinion clearly doesn’t know what an “It girl” in Korea means. “It girl” is not based on talent. “It girl” is about having amazing visuals, great popularity, and MOST importantly having influence in the fashion industry. Momo has my favorite voice in TWICE and I had already came to this conclusion when I first joined K-pop and before I knew about the Momo encore singing scandal. I always saw people saying Momo is a bad singer but I always felt like people over exaggerate it. Momo is no means a good vocalist or a vocalist at all but imo people are being overly dramatic. I don’t think Momo should have “less lines”. She should be given more rap parts because she’s actually a great rapper. I personally like her rapping more than Dahyun and Chaeyoung because she has a nice flow and the other rappers in Twice sound like they’re talk singing. 4. I don’t think Sakura not winning had anything to do with her being Japanese. Plus whether she got robbed of the center position or not Wonyoung was still the better choice for center because at the time Sakura genuinely lacked stage presence while Wonyoung’s stage presence was always good. 5. I agree. Red Velvet are not rappers and all they do is talk sing. Let them just stay a vocal group. 6. Lia fits the concept well which is why I think she was added. But I do think talent wise JYPE could have chose someone different. Lia lacks in dance and vocals in GENERAL. Again I’m not just talking about compared to her members her dancing skills are lacking or compared to her members her singing skills are better (which it is) but in general she is genuinely a weak main vocalist and dancer. But I think JYPE chose her because she fits the concept, her visuals, and because she has good variety skills. Could JYPE have picked someone who at least is on par with the other members in terms of dancing? Yes, but I still wouldn’t have want ITZY to debut any other way. The 5 of them are great together. Sometimes it’s not about the talent when picking trainees.

Well I think different generations of kpop deem different things more important. Third gen for example was all about vocals/rap and the dance wasn’t as important, whereas in fourth gen they really put an emphasis on dance/performance and put vocals last, that’s not to say that fourth gen is bad vocally they just aren’t as good as third gen, which I guess for people who enjoy listening to vocally good groups don’t really have loads of fourth gen groups to listen to other than a few popular grps and nugu groups.

Here's my thought on those opinions. 1st opinion: MORE THAN HIGHLY disagree, bitter and miserable much? 2nd opinion: HIGHLY disagree, Wonyoung is 4th generation Kpop's IT girl whether you like it or not!!! About momos voice, it was so exaggerated (the original post). Me personally, I like her actual voice. I don’t think 4th gen groups are the problem, its 4th gen “fans”/public. It sort of a generalization itself, but 4th gen fans are the ones that make certain groups more popular than others, and some of those groups don’t have insane vocalist or rappers, while less popular ones do. Take for example IVE versus Purple Kiss. IVE is huge because people make them popular, even when they hate on them, while Purple Kiss, who have amazing vocals, aren’t as popular. Not saying IVE don’t have good vocalist, just that people love to pick them apart when they don’t perform live. And the music being good is very subjective, because you can say the same of every new music era; music changes because people want innovation and they try to create new things. If I see one more person say they love TWICE, but can’t listen to them because of MOMO, I will lose it. If it really bothered you that much, you would not be able to listen to Twice at all and you would not love Twice. I have had songs where if I can’t stand a certain part, even if I like the rest, I will never listen to it just to avoid it. If anything, Momo’s voice is a slight irritant to you, not a blithe on your ears that invokes a visceral reaction. I completely agree with with Red Velvet; that is why their b-sides are amazing, because SM isn’t trying to add an unnecessary rap and just allows them to sing. As for Kep1er, I had my fears for the final line up because main vocalist material kept ranking lower then the so called “aces”, but I think the final line up is much better than the lead up rankings suggested. They have a main vocalist, some good dancers, some good stage presence, and fair vocals all around. If their company could learn to properly utilize their skills and manage them, they wouldn’t need to rely so heavily on an audience mainly made up by people who watched the show and have their on opinions on who deserved to debut, but they haven’t broken into the more general public.

Opinion 3: Damn, that's harsh. Sure, if I were to do an objective, no bias ranking of Twice's vocal ability, she would rank 9/9, but still, she isn't so bad that her mic should be revoked. Lately, as Twice's songs have been maturing and she's been more comfortable singing in her lower register rather than forcing herself to sing high to match the pitch, she has actually kind of been slaying. Like her part in Scientist is my favorite part of the song.

Opinion 1: That's actually literally so false. Vocal: Are Ninging (aespa), Jongho (Ateez), Keeho (P1Harmony), Xiaojun (WayV), Lily (NMixx), Yunjin (Le Sserafim) and so many more a joke to you? Just because the focus has shifted away from solely vocal ability, doesn't mean idols can no longer sing. Rap: Han (Stray Kids), Changbin (Stray Kids), Soyeon (G-idle), Jongseob (P1Harmony), and many more. Choreography is also part of a group's overall visuals so companies prioritizes dance skill of all members. But to be fair, kpop has always been big on aesthetics/visuals. I think what opinion 7 meant was lia doesn’t fit Itzy. I thought the same thing at their debut when they had her singing in a higher tone that got her dragged and always gave Yeji the hard notes, they wasted her potential imo. 4th gen gg are def not as well rounded as previous gens. yes, there are a few standout for rapping, singing or dancing, but i dont believe their companies are focused on being idols, but more on becoming brand ambassadors or social media stars. you have gg that are focus so much on social media and brand ambassadors (newjeans) that they are pushing little girls and posting fake brand endorsements on their social media accounts. of course 4th gg are better dances bc they lip sync so much, it is easy to just concentrate on dancing when you dont have to sing

Opinion 6: People need to stop hating on Kep1er to try to seem edgy and actually place the blame where it's deserved: fans that fell for MNET's evil editing and WakeOne for mismanaging them and making their idol careers kind of a shit show. Kep1er aren't even untalented, their discography is just all over the place. Songs like Wa Da Da (although catchy and having grown on me) and We Fresh should've been left in the drafts. Giddy should've been released right after Up and they should also make a Chinese debut if they want to cling onto the gloal kpop group concept they tried with GP999. Agree with the 1st opinion. You brought up 4th gen's dancing skills as a rebuttal to "4th gen is bad in all categories", but that's part of the problem. While I like some 4th gen groups, they mainly focus on performance and visuals rather than singing and the music itself. It's true that 4th gen has some exceptionally good dancers, but so did literally every other generation so that's not really a strong counter argument. In fact, the most popular kpop groups of all time are known for exceeding in all categories. if "dancing" is the only thing that can be used to back 4th gen's lack of skill in every other category, that speaks for itself.
