I know this is 3 years old, but I just saw this and had to share. I had the Dingbot growing up. I asked my parents for an Omnibot and this is what I got on Christmas instead. Disappointed, yeah just a little bit. 🤣🤣 I did become fond of this little guy. As kid I always took apart my toys to see how they worked. This one though, my mom told me to never take apart. But you know I tried. 8 year old me just couldn't figure out how to separate the two halves. Now I know almost 40 years later. 🤣🤣Take off the shoulders and there's screws underneath.. You fulfilled a childhood wish, to take this thing apart.. 🤣🤣Love your videos man, keep up the great work!!!

I’ve got a Tomy Chatbot missing it’s remote and a Radio Shack Dustbot. Tomy was making some great looking robot toys, From the Omnibot 2000 down to the lowly Dingbot. They were advertised better than they performed but were still fun to have.

I've similar problems with screws stuck in plastic. I used the tip of my soldering iron briefly to touch it on the screw head and that does the trick. But don't hold it on for long, just about 3-5 seconds.

Little trick but need to be very careful not to over due hold a soldering iron to the screws it help with rust and the screw holes will soften but don't hold to long or the holes with just melt/burn out depending on the plastic

I really thought the door on the head was going to be a battery compartment for a coin cell, maybe to run a couple of red LEDs in the eyes or something. Weird that they made a door like that, with such a large compartment, for a screw rather than just a post and small hole plug.

I find this little robot fellow cute appealing :) There's probably a cam rotating inside and that's the program, so it will be painfully cyclical :D The only thing that can change up the movement is some dangly bit, like the not-centered wheel that might make it start in a bit random directions. BTW, you can lubricate the motor as well a little, maybe it would be less noisy.
@adamgriffiths17032 жыл бұрын
You did a sterling job on that - it does work, that randomness was purposeful.

Wow thats a cute little friend, it's far too stupid for how cute it is. It needs a cerebral upgrade! Put a little ai in it, some cameras, a speaker, and let it help you identify fruit in your kitchen, or something lol. At that point I guess might as well just make a 3d model replica and send it off to a 3d printer and get some pcbs printed to perfectly fit. It'd be cool to give an old robot a smarter brain though, maybe make it smart enough with streamlined integration enough even to recall memory from before it got its cerebral upgrade! lol

@@StezStixFix I have mine from when I was a kid, was showing my 17 month old Mr Money and remembered I had this. But it's not working. I've now got it all moving properly, also from basic cleaning, but one of the plastic cogs has cracked, apparently they shrink over time sometimes? So was hoping you had the same issue to see what you used to fix the cog. I've seen a few people say super glue mixed with baking soda.
@StezStixFix3 жыл бұрын
@@benambrose7360 yeah, super glue and baking powder can be a great way of doing that. Ideally you'd want to replace the gear, but it can be hard ro find something exactly the same!
