And almost certainly significantly elevated all the stress hormones (glucagon, cortisol, adrenaline), which signal an environment of scarcity, slow the metabolism and initiate a number of disease processes. Weight loss is important and awesome, but keep these things in mind ✌️

Carnivore seemed to stop working for me. I am no doctor, I have no glucose monitor, I don't count calories. Keto did help at first, carnivore helped even more for a while, but lately I started feeling (I can't even describe how I was feeling) It was sort of like a burning sensation, feverish but not a fever, Low energy low motivation. I have now gone back to intermittent fasting and have added kimchi to my mostly carnivore diet. This seems to have solved my issues (at least so far). I feel much better now, I do not have the time and or money to do all these tests and things. I can't even get an appointment with a real doctor who isn't a pill pusher. I have a strong distrust of the established medical community. Hope this helps someone.

Keto helped me at first also but I did use a glucose monitor. You can buy them OTC for $30 at any drugstore. My A1c went down at first but then I had what is 'morning phenomenon' where my own body churned out sugar and I woke to very high glucose levels even when extremely low carb. I would suggest you use a meter when you wake and one and two hours after a meal, just so you can see what is happening.

Very low carbs worked wonders for me when I was obese and spiraling downward health-wise but over time with the lifestyle changes I made in association with my dietary changes I eventually lost more weight than I wanted to and just couldn't put on muscle. I added some carbs back -- mainly sprouted rice, sprouted grain bread and some potatoes -- and now with more workouts in addition to my active lifestyle I'm putting on muscle to my satisfaction at 61 years old.

Thank you so much for your preface monolog before the interview started. I actually did not watch this video precisely because I have been doing keto/ketovore/carnivore for about 10 months. I was diagnosed with T2D in September last year and I attacked it vigorously with an HFLC diet and I've lost 130 pounds and my A1C went from 11.3 to 5.3 and my health only continues to improve. In my journey I recognize that my diet is not one that everyone can do. As I got more carnivore, I found that the same "one-size-fits-all mentality that has kept people unhealthy for 50+ years was so orevelant that I almost couldn't my interact meaningfully with people online anymore. But I also know that many people flounder in a sea of information. I knew from the get-go that I was going to do and I immediately silenced the din coming from the interwebs. I was going to do this undistracted and if it worked, great. If it didn't THEN I would look into something else. The problem isn't the myriad voices so much as the indecision that comes with trying to listen to all the voices. I know the path I am on is working. Again thanks for the encouragement to commit to something that is demonstrably working for people and avoid distraction.

Wonderful to listen to someone that recognises that there is no one size that fits all. Personally, I tried keto and it made me very ill. After 3 weeks I had no energy, felt like death warmed up, and my liver enzymes were very high. On a more plant based diet, ( with occasional eggs or fish) I felt amazing! I had so much energy, all aches and pains gone, was running up the stairs 2 at a time and my eyes were bright and skin was glowing! Weight came down, 2lbs every week, and my blood tests were perfect. So that’s what works for me but I equally recognise that keto or carnivore works well for other people.

I got insulin resistance problem and prediabetes last year. Learned the long term approach on IR rather than short term extreme way to change my meals. Changed to high fiber diet (eat this first in meal), increase protein intake, reduce carb (read: not remove carb), also very little carb at last meal around 7pm then stop eating, plus resistance trainings and active lifestyle.. these things works for me, now my FBG score around 85-95. I think long term lifestyle is way more suitable for most people rather than extreme keto diet, no carb, no sugar. Thats just too much. I still like to have variety fruits for my diets, cant live without it.

I am suspicious of prescription drugs because I personally experienced bad side effects. So I recently found out that some of these prescription ls can actually cause insulin sensitivity and diabetes. Many psychiatric drugs and also steroids as well as some others. So some people might actually have a body imbalance from their prescription medications without realizing it. Those results can be permanent. However, hopefully the body can heal over time when given the right environment. When I was in my 20’s they prescribed antidepressants for social anxiety. I immediately went from having a fast metabolism to gaining weight and never really got my body balanced back after that. I would say research everything first.

I think that he's describing is the Randle Cycle. The cells are protecting themselves from damage by locking out the glucose because they already have enough energy. They're preventing themselves from glycation damage. So if you are going to eat carbs you better make sure you're not eating a bunch of fat with them. To me that is just not optimal. I would rather stick to an optimal low carb diet and fix the underlying derangements that are causing sleep issues or electrolyte issues, the hormone issues causing them to be stuck in glucosis. But I know this can be very challenging for everyone and sometimes it's easier just to add some carbs back in for relief. But it's going to be really difficult to avoid that glycation damage if you're eating carbs and also getting fat. Well it could help in the short-term I think long-term you will see worse results.

Read most of the comments and it's amazing the level of intense hostility that some people show towards those who don't feel that they thrive on that person's favorite diet. It's like a religion, you must follow what i follow or else.. It seems like many people have invested their identity into their chosen diet so that when someone doesn't praise their chosen diet they feel personally offended, like it's a threat to their very existence, which explains the intense hostility shown. After all, If i identified my existence with a certain way of doing things or a certain position or belief, then any disagreeing with this position immediately feels like a threat to my existence, and such a feeling of threat immediately leads to a very hostile response. It's totally like a religion..

Been doing for years Paleo then Keto then Ketovore then carnivore, all of them worked for a while (sometimes a short while) until they didn't and major problems started to surface, and I mean MAJOR problems. The Bioenergetic understanding (not bioenergetic diet but the bioenergetic understanding) is the first time that i'm doing things completely different. Not following a set of fixed diet rules and trying to force myself to follow those fixed rules, but for once actually learning about how i actually function and listening to what i actually need. A game changer for me. No dogma and set beliefs and pushing and forcing but constant observing and learning..

Thanks for this Lillie! I know i have problems with insulin but low carb/keto makes me feel absolutely exhausted, stressed & depressed, even though i like the food and i like not being hungry so frequently. I'm still trying to find my balance between having enough energy to get through the day but also not over-doing the carbs. It's nice to hear someone say that not everyone is going to feel good on low carb/keto. I certainly don't. And the second i take myself out of ketosis i feel like a new person but then it's not long before my body starts craving bad carbs. I feel like i can't win 😮. But thank you so much for making these videos and giving a different perspective. There is no 'one size fits all' ❤

A perspective I'd like to hear Jay's thoughts on is how he reconciles his recommendations for a high-carb, high-sugar diet when we know it's bad for oral health? Does he think that even though it rots your teeth it's good for your body? Does this not create some cognitive dissonance? Even Ray Peat (who I assume is his go-to source of info) had to discover this the hard way. If you look up images of Ray, you'll see he smiled with his mouth closed. People who have suffered from poor oral health, consciously or unconsciously, often don't smile with their teeth. Others defend Peat, saying he wrecked his teeth earlier in his life, maybe, I don't know the whole story, but there are many in Peat's forum with questions like: "I've been experiencing some tooth decay and gum sensitivity on a 'peaty' diet." To me, to argue for a diet that is bad for your teeth because it is somehow good for your overall health is a precarious argument to make... It's an argument diametrically opposed to our evolutionary biology and millions of years of selective pressures that forged strong teeth. If your diet rots your teeth, the hardest substance in your body, it's a pretty big red flag that the diet isn't optimal.

If I was a wild human chasing carbs all day with no access to a dentist, what would happen if my oral health declined? Would bacteria and pathogens have a better chance entering my blood stream via a rotten mouth by bypassing the stomach acid? @@PeaceIsYeshua just listened to it, overall, I agree with much of what they say, which is basically eat a nutrient rich diet (i.e. animal foods - yes!) and then some strategies to mitigate the cariogenic impact of their high carb diet (such as not drinking juice throughout the day which some Peat advocates advocate for). So basically they recognize their high sugar diet is cariogenic and thus need strategies to prevent the degradation of oral health, which is back to my point, this makes no sense in a first principles evolutionary biology perspective.

I can't wait for Bart to review this. It seems Jay has a one-sided and very different view of the involvement of mitochondria. I found his downplaying of fat and ketones quite extraordinary as we know mitochondria use all three very efficiently. He also seems to think locking fuel sources out of the cell when it is replete is because of broken mitochondria but doesn't explain why he thinks they got broken. Its more logical that they are simply protecting the cell against excess glycation damage.

Love this video, I appreciate the different types of people you have on your show. It's interesting. Jay is awesome. My own feedback, his approach is great for people who cannot ever visualize seeing themselves being full carnivore. It offers people another way. Me personally, if I decided to add some plants, it would complicate matters, I wouldn't feel optimal, and just thinking of having to fine-tune everything, explore bloodwork to see how we can mitigate the issues. For me it's not worth the pain, the expense and I'd be sacrificing that simplicity you get from carnivore.. Not worth it. It really depends on the goals, the health issues, and willpower of the individual. For me, carnivore with minimal seasonal fruit consumption when the strawberries are growing wild in my back yard is just perfection. From what I see, many people struggle with fungal and autoimmune issues and the plants must be off the menu. My husband who is in the middle of putting crohn's into remission would never go back to eating plants or fiber of any kind.. IBD can easily lead to a bursting appendix which almost happened to him. When the colon gets inflamed, the appendix can get inflamed too, and most people don't notice anything until they're in the hospital. After what happened to him, I will never ever look at plants the same again. Thanks for everything Lillie. 💖💖

NAFLD was reversed in one month from just eliminating fruit. Fructose from just fruits alone was killing me. I would say Carnivore is the only way humans should eat, it is our species appropriate diet, but not everyone has the willpower after having had plants their whole life. Some people have addictions also, and just don't know how to let it go. In cases like that, I say try something else, but if you still see your insulin or A1C isn't going down, and inflammation ain't budging, and fatty liver is still fatty, well then you're not eating a proper human diet. I also don't think it's coincidence that everyone I know doing a carnivore diet is healing. But that's also because I know how to make the link between CAUSE & EFFECT.

Not true. Diabetics that restrict carbs may have a slight lowering in their blood glucose, but it is still elevated. Where is the glucose coming from? Elevation of chronic stress hormones since glucose is not being utilized properly. The body cannot create enough energy to supply the stress demands, thus elevation of stress hormones which increase blood glucose is elevated chronically. The blood glucose is a symptom, not so much a problem. So ingesting more sugar on top of that isn’t harmful and is actually beneficial.

I couldn't sleep more than 2-5 hrs of interrupted sleep (having racing heart) during 15 months of carnivore. It took a MASSIVE toll on my health. I tried everything possible to fix it. I've been following carnivore content since 2018 and I've watched thousands of carnivore videos by now plus I've had carnivore coaches so it's not like I "did it wrong" like some people might think. I had no choice but to reintroduce carbs bcs I was a complete wreck after the stress that my body went through. But with that said...I can't resolve my health issues (Hashimotos, asthma, fibromyalgia) on "pro metabolic" or animal based either so it's a catch 22. I sleep better and that's ofc very important but I still wish that I could go completely carnivore again bcs I feel like I can't reverse my autoimmune issues and other health issues otherwise. Plus I have signs of insulin resistance and I haven't been able to reverse that either on "pro-metabolic" or animal based. You have to then keep the fats very low, or rather low, if you eat lots of carbs and I've tried that aswell. For a couple of years before carnivore! (Following the "pro metabolic" approach.) It has been confusing as f to listen to the opposite views of low carb/carnivore and "pro-metabolic" but I instinctively feel like lower carb is the more natural approach. It feels very unnatural to eat that much fruits/juices/honey that pro-metabolic suggests. (And/or some starches if tolerated.) Plus I hate to have to moderate fats to the degree that you have to on that approach. Right now I'm somewhere in between and that's probably not a good idea either. (Randle cycle.) But I still have to have some carbs to not crash. I'm dealing with ongoing oxalate dumping aswell so that also messes with everything. It's rough.😵‍💫

Nice to see you again Cammie lol. I wouldn't worry about the Randle cycle too much, it becomes a problem for very metabolically damaged people OR we're talking like 150+ grams of fat and 300+ grams of carb a day. That could start to cause issues but that's difficult to do. For myself, pro metabolic eating revealed to me that MY issue was thyroid related. This can cause all kinds of odd side effects that may seem like food intolerances. Took me 3 months slowly crawling out of carnivore and having all kinds of weird side effects until everything flipped and I feel better than I ever have and haven't looked back. I wonder what else you do in your life and what you mainly eat? Starch doesn't always do me good. Neither does veg. Not all fruit either. Bacon and eggs don't always like me either. I stick to like 90% beef for my meat and the rest is some potato, OJ, dates, milk, ocassional fruit and veg. Roughly 250-300 grams of carb a day. Carrots, mango, melon, grapes. I dont do well with apples, pears, banana, pineapple, spinach, the list starts to get lengthy lol. People look at me like I'm crazy but OJ was my main carb source when switching. Very high in B vitamins which is great for metabolism and thyroid, but also low in fiber and fodmaps so it shouldn't cause much issue digestively. I can only speak to my experience, I hope this helps Cammie. When I tried potato and whole fruit as my MAIN carb source, I was bloated, fatigued, foggy etc so I get it trust me

PQQ and obesity-associated metabolic diseases AMPK is a key cellular energy regulator that plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular energy homeostasis (Hardie, 2014). Given its impact on AMPK and mitochondrial function described in Section 3, PQQ has considerable potential for treating numerous metabolic diseases including diabetes, NAFLD, and CKD. Moreover, PQQ influences insulin signaling via multiple pathways and increases glucose absorption via glucose transporter translocation. Thus, studies suggest that PQQ may be beneficial in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (Akagawa et al., 2016).

How can blood sugars increase in the absence of carbohydrates? It's called gluconeogenesis. Your body will get the glucose it needs from somewhere and that somewhere in the absence of carbohydrates will mainly come from the breakdown of proteins and lipids. The reason why the blood sugars drop when you introduce a little carbohydrate into the diet is because you trigger an increase in insulin which in turn decreases the blood sugars. The reason this occurs in these people is because they need more insulin due to them being insulin resistant. Cutting out all the carbs drops their insulin levels too low to control the blood sugars that are being converted by the body. Hope that makes sense. BTW, I have been in healthcare 30+ years trained in integrative functional medicine and hold a PhD in human physiology. Wanted to add one more thing after watching a little bit more of the video. In short, a healthy person SHOULD be metabolically flexible without causing an increase in cortisol. For example, you want your body going in and out of ketosis on a daily basis. Simply put, burning glycogen for fuel during the day and burning fat at night while asleep. Your body SHOULD NOT produce high levels of cortisol just because you are on a low or zero carb diet. Your body is designed to cope with this by way of gluconeogenesis. Now, jumping from a high carb diet to carnivore overnight may trigger an initial stress response, but your body will quickly adapt. The human race would be extinct if it didn't! The main reasons for increased cortisol are from not taking in enough calories, eating junk food, too much exercise, not enough sleep, emotional stress, and other physical stress like infections, disease, etc...

Low stomach acid, sluggish gallbladder function, pancreas gets congested end result liver toxic overload. All of this over time creates insulin resistance. Under methylation plus stress also big part and thats how it all begins before mitochondria gets disregulated.

I think this guy has some good points. On carnivore, I lost quite a bit of hair due to the stress it put my body under, slept like crap for weeks. I do believe cutting out everything was a good choice at first in order to reset my gut but have since added back some carbs in the form of honey and fruit and feeling better. ❤

I really wish discussions would SHARPLY differentiate between "overweight", "obese" and "VERY obese" categories of individuals. Deep down I would like to add carbs back in. I have gone from 500 to 310 lbs. But I'm gonna SETTLE on 310. The only way it's' continuing to go down is strict carnivore. All carbs cause some kind of psychotic rage inducing cravings. Anyways, please from now on make a sharp distinction with guests on advice for people 20, 50, and 100+ pounds overweight. I really don't care if carnivore raises my cortisol, I'd like to hit 200 within a year or two. Not 20 years doing 'moderate' carbs. thanks.

You are massively ignorant. Humans eat carbs. Broken humans who have 100 excess pounds of carbohydrates storage on their bodies need to not eat carbohydrates because they ate enough for 50 people. Once you come back down to normal human being weight, you eat carbs.

I agree with the hypothesis proposed by Jay Feldman iecwhen he say that : "the problem is in & with the Engine and so don't blame the fuel". This explains why 🌎over carb eating public are also healthy and unhealthy like those with low Carb or Carnivorous diet. I think the recent research that C15 deficiency also causes insulin/metabolic resistance. Kudos to Jay, he surely has the guts to take a path when most researchers are divided in two rigid camps.

@@Ghostfabe Yes, I did say except for butter. Sorry for the confusion. :) I get the feeling you don’t like me simply because I eat carbs….. Butter tends to be much better tolerated by people with dairy allergies, but I actually don’t have a problem with dairy anyway and consider it a health food. I eat lots of dairy currently and have so much more energy now than when on carnivore/low carb.

I was/am pre-diabetic and am trending away from it. I found out I have CIRS and that I suffer from something called molecular hypometabolism. Now that I am addressing CIRS, my insulin resistance is naturally going away. Just thought people should know this. I did carnivore for over a year with no benefit. I've introduced 60grams of low amylase carbs, daily.

I’m not losing weight doing carnivore/keto. I have been playing around with the amount of carbs and I’m trialling less than 50 total atm (it varies day to day) I don’t eat fruit or starchy veg. I did well weight loss wise on a high carb diet before but I ended up unwell when I tried vegan. I just hated being addicted to ultra processed foods, it’s a slippery slope and I like how I have less brain fog and I’m calmer having less carbs (I have adhd). Weight loss for me isn’t everything. I’m just trying to lift weights now and build more muscle and bone density.

something I found helpful in eating carbs is NOT to combine it with saturated fat. I learned this from Dr. Ben Blinkman who says that the research has shown that insulin with saturated fat makes fat cells larger and that fat is less easy to get rid of. I now take carbs with protein instead of with saturated fat. I take ACV and gymnema sylvestre to slow down carb absorption about 15 mins before I eat carbs. I also freeze soudough bread and eat it toasted or microwaved. Increased my probiotics, cinnamon and ginger intake to help with digestion. Any comments?

For me low carb works to reduce inflammation. But people have to understand that 1 diet does not fit all and always listen to your body, but also give it time to do it's thing. You can not reverse something that you have done for years in a few days. But that is the time we live in, instant gratification (finance and health)

Try it for yourself, give it a few months to really see what works for you Carnivores will act like it's a badge of honor to only eat meat..this happened to me as well. After carnivore I couldn't tolerate anything other than meat. This is not a good thing lmao. Now I can tolerate foods I NEVER thought I would, milk, vegetables, fruits, etc.

I've done all the diets, but carnivore. Carnivore for 10 weeks, gained weight, but would lose a few pounds when I included some carbs. My energy is really low, trouble even walking down the hall and excessively tired, then diverticulitis attack. Yeah, I like the simplicity but it's a no go for me. Added some vegetables/low carb bread and my BS are now below 100. I'm older now and what worked back in my 40/50s isn't working now.
