I'm a psych nurse. I see soooo many patients in their 50's with dementia. It is terrifying!! This disease is happening to younger and younger people by the day. There has to be a link to environmental factors. I have absolutely no doubt. They almost all also have vitamin D and iron deficiencies and hypothyroidism. It's wild.

Scary! I’m in my 50s and have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis hypothyroidism, chronic iron deficiency anemia, and chronic Vitamin D deficiency. I have pretty bad brain fog and short term memory sometimes. I think lower carb meat based eating seems to help me. I wonder if all these problems are addressed plus healthy low carb eating the people in your unit would improve significantly?

Correlation is not the same as causation so I say that lightly. I don't know if it's been studied but I have seen so many dementia patients with these comorbidities that it does make me wonder. And we would never do a low carb diet. We're a hospital lol do you think they follow any newer nutrition advice? Unfortunately not but I'm sure we would see health improvements if we did!

I am 62, just in the last thirty years people have greatly increased their time indoors. Vitamin D deficiency is bound to be a problem without supplements. I try to be outdoors for several days outdoors all through the summer, exposing my skin as much as I can tolerate. I am fair skinned so it is a balancing act. I completely agree it is a combination of environmental and things we eat/drink. Didn’t say nutrition because a lot that is consumed is not nourishing!

Wheat, in particular, is difficult to break down. A hundred years ago bread was mostly made at home using slow rising. This allowed the yeast to time to break down the wheat. When I make bread, which is reasonably often, I usually make it over two days. The second day I will add some sugar into the morning knead to restart the yeast fermentation. Bread made commercially goes through a very rapid rise process, giving very little time for the digestion process.

So basically anything that isn’t a “whole food”? It’s so infuriating. All these government agencies need to be disbanded. The FDA & CDC don’t care one bit about our health. Some food companies, I think it could be Kelloggs create diabetes and also have sell you the drug to “cure” (although not a cure, just disease management). Bread was my mainstay for decades. I not only depended on it for economy's sake (gardeners never get good pay), but I really, really liked it from early childhood (lived near the best bakery ever). I could eat an 800g loaf in a day, myself. No problem. Not white, sliced bread, but wholemeal, seeded bread. 'Wholesome' stuff. Loved it. Although, my health had been deteriorating over the past 15 years (including a brush with cancer), just before Christmas, it started to nosedive rapidly. My husband, also unwell, did research, found out all this stuff about carbs, bread particularly. It was really hard for me to accept what he was saying as I'd been to a dietician as well as doctors and to the hospital for various digestives problems, and their advice was a diet including bread and other carbohydrates. Apart from a few ultra processed products, I couldn't see what I was doing wrong at all. Drop the ultra processed, and there was no change. I was still declining. Eventually, I went along with the advice my husband had discovered, and the recovery was so rapid I can still hardly believe it. Oh, and just as they discuss here - an improvement in cognitive function. It improves all the time, but just a few months ago I was certain I had early symptoms of dementia. Forgetfulness, irritability, brain fog, a tendency to get really worked up and furiously angry over events that are long past in my history and not worth remembering, and the worst of all - failure to concentrate. It didn't matter if I was listening to a serious discussion, watching a film, reading a letter or book: the lights were on, but I was barely home. My husband would say things like - remember when so and so phoned last week? And I wouldn't have a clue what he was talking about. It got to the stage when I was forgetting how to spell longer words, or I was forgetting the meaning of words. The more I think about it, the scarier it is actually. But, I gave up bread first, and the physical improvements occurred pretty quickly. The cognitive improvements have taken a little more time, but they're happening and brain function improves week by week. After bread, I cut out pasta, then potatoes, and rice is only a very occasional indulgence. It hasn't been difficult either. When I have tried to give up things like cakes, biscuits, crisps, chips, or milk chocolate on previous diets, I was eating them again in a couple of weeks. I couldn't knock the habit - because I was substituting them with bread, and that seemed to fuel temptation. Now, I see them in the supermarket and couldn't care less about them.

@Debbie-henri HI Debbie 😊. I agree with you about the bread; even the healthy bread. It is actually the preservatives in the breads causing the problems. We eat only Ezekiel bread; it is in the freezer at the store. No preservatives at all; but if you buy 2 loaves , you must put one in the freezer & the one you are eating in the fridgerator, because it spoils fast! It is entirely flour less. They take 7 grains & sprout them & make bread from the sprouts. It is best lightly toasted. I like the muffins alot because their is no crust. Go to the bible & go to the book of Ezekiel chapter 4 verse 9 & that is the recipe. Also any preservatives keep you from loosing weight. If you try it let me know how you liked it. It is not also a complete protein . Don't forget to only lightly toast it.

I do not think it's the gluten that is the problem. It's the refined and enhanced flours that people uses to make breads and bread products. I use organic wheat berries and mill my flour to make breads and products. I now use almost 100% ancient grains and find I am better, more energetic, and feel nourished. I did keto strictly for 3 months and by the end of the 3 months, I was weak and yes I looked great but I felt deprived. people were telling me to eat more fats. I was literally eating butter to get "more fats". and then I found Sue Becker. I have learned so much from this woman. You should search for her and listen to her wisdom about what the food industry did to bread.

We need to look at "sickness" as the body using adaptive methods to expel toxins. We have been made to believe that symptoms need treatment that only. Best interventions are to change the diet or do fasting along with getting proper hydration and rest. All of the above ease the burden on the body as opposed to modern "treatment" protocols. I found out recently that feed a cold, starve a fever or vice versa has been misconstrued. IF you feed a cold you will have to starve a fever makes more sense... Cold symptoms are the way the body is expelling toxic overload. The best way to deal with cold symptoms is through fasting to rest the body from digestion so that the body can more easily clear out the toxins. If you feed a cold you will have to starve a fever. A cold can turn to fever which is a more severe step the body is taking to maintain health. The body is self-healing. You responded immediately to garbage food, but if you notice there are people addicted to processed foods that don't seem to get severe symptoms. If you look at symptoms differently as part of the way the body is housecleaning then getting symptoms is a good thing as opposed to people who no longer have the vital energy to produce the symptoms that you experienced. A junkie may not get symptoms anymore, but that just means the disease is manifesting without overt symptoms. See terrain model refutes ... FB page. I'm part native American and I always remember that in TV westerns the Indians always called alcohol "FireWater". My dad was an alcoholic and was very nice when sober, after drinking he became abusive, beating me, my brothers and my mother, so badly she attempted suicide 3 times. In his last 10 years he gave it all up and actually believed in God. I'm glad we had a chance to become good friends in his last years, he's been gone for over 10 years and I miss him everyday. I know he's waiting for me with outstretched arms on the other side. I'll be 72 in a few months and I never cared for alcohol, I have only been drunk once or twice, I've found that I don't like throwing up, I've seen alcohol destroy so many lives, I feel sorry for anyone that drinks and I always tell people that alcohol is toxic, it's poison, how can it not be poison if it makes people do such crazy things? I feel sorry for those that can't get through a day without a drink. There is no doubt that it shortens your life. I can't get over how people can say I only live once, I want to enjoy my life. Is it really worth to destroy yourself and ruin all the lives around you because you're so selfish that you only live once? Have a friend record you on his/her phone the next time you get shitfaced and then look at how pitiful you are when your drunk. Try something few people enjoy---get high on LIFE.

Lillie Kane, and Dr Titus Chiu, I have struggled with allergies nearly all my life. As an RN, I KNEW that we are what we eat, so I have kept on experimenting and learning about what I can and cannot tolerate, and how many exposures to the 'food' I can get away with before I 'pay the piper'. As I have aged, it turns out that Organic foods are usually ALWAYS better for me than non-organics, and that not all Organic labeled foods really are organic. Specifically, unbleached foods, in the grain world, including in sugars, are much more easily tolerated. In the meat world, if I can obtain meats that were grazed on an ORGANIC pasture, as in no Grazon-infested grass, or non-Roundup-ready grass, I feel MUCH better. I have spent well-over half my long life carrying my abdomen around in pain, until I figured this out. Now, I actually have days on end that my abdomen does not hurt! Sometimes, though, it is SO tender that I cannot even rest my hand anywhere upon my torso, because of the pain in my abdomen. But that is usually after I must eat bleached foods, or poison-tainted foods like when I am stuck in the city without food from home. I am notorious for telling myself if I just have a little, I will be ok. I cannot tolerate even the smallest amount of milk products, even down to the filler in pills and capsules. Someday, I will perfect my choices.

Bread made with commercial flour and commercial breads (EVEN ORGANIC) are not REAL bread. There is no legal definition for "whole wheat" and when you buy whole wheat bread at the store it is NOT whole wheat. For the whole explanation listen to food scientist Sue Becker (on Bread Beckers YT channel). To eat REAL bread one must mill their own whole grain -- preferably organic in order to avoid glyphosate. REAL bread is great even for those who thought they were allergic to the gluten in MOST cases (but those who are genetically celiac -- less than 1% of the population -- really cannot tolerate gluten even in REAL bread. REAL bread is HIGHLY nutritious; commercial bread is highly toxic.

@@btkaylo Even then the flour used to make the bread people were eating was depleted of the nutrition provided in the whole grain -- but at least they were not adding as many additives (probably). They add some kind of chlorine to bleach the white flour because the little bit of oil left in it turns yellow when it goes rancid. Someone who wrote a book about Alzheimer's that I met -- (though I do not know if it was ever published and I do not remember his name) -- told me some years ago that the FDA approved for some type of aluminum to be added "to keep it fresh longer" and they do NOT have to list the aluminum in the ingredients. He believed that commercial refined flour and breads were a major cause of Alzheimer's!

There are people who move across the landscape in modern times, with animals and no permanent settlements. They leave no traces, or very few. I need to avoid gluten, grains in general, seed oils and all lugumes. Give me a hunk of cheese and a glass of milk and I can go like crazy all day. I think that some of us have ancestors who were eating dairy going way back into history and are very well adapted to it.

Unfortunately, she doesn't believe food is a factor or soda , sugars etc. I shared GMO, Bioengineering, artificial and even so called " natural" ingredients, sugar, sugar substitutes, organic etc. She thinks I'm nuts. Sadly I lost my oldest friend. She is taking lots od prescribed of drugs. Can't drive. Some days are better than others. It's awful. She still knows me so that's a blessing but I see her going downhill fast. Thankfully, she did not take clot shot so she is not in the death zone but shedding of vaxxed family in her home is where it began. The kids bought the lie, jabbed and within 8 months she became alzheimer diagnosed. One jabbed daughter at 28 has heart valve failure and the other daughter actually has to have arteries cleared near heart and she's 32!

Specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) are bioactive lipid compounds derived from polyunsaturated fatty acids, primarily omega-3 fatty acids like EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Foods rich in these precursors will generally have higher levels of SPMs. Here are some foods that are high in SPMs or their precursors: 1. **Fatty Fish**: Salmon, mackerel, sardines, and anchovies are excellent sources of EPA and DHA. 2. **Fish Oil**: Fish oil supplements are concentrated sources of omega-3 fatty acids. 3. **Algae Oil**: A plant-based source of DHA, suitable for vegetarians and vegans. 4. **Flaxseeds and Flaxseed Oil**: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a precursor to EPA and DHA. 5. **Chia Seeds**: Another good source of ALA. 6. **Walnuts**: Provide a significant amount of ALA. 7. **Hemp Seeds**: Contain a balanced ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. 8. **Leafy Green Vegetables**: Spinach and kale have small amounts of ALA. 9. **Soy Products**: Tofu and soybeans also contain ALA. Including these foods in your diet can help increase the levels of SPMs in your body, which are important for resolving inflammation and promoting overall health.

Dr Chiu, I recall reading that, over millennia, as dairy foods became a significant part of their diet, Europeans developed the ability for adults to continue to digest lactose. As infants, of course, we are all able to digest milk. In some ethnic groups, that ability persists, but in others, adults lose that ability. In particular, East Asians may have problems digesting dairy foods in adulthood.

The reason why this man is having problems with cow dairy is because most cheese is mixed with A1 casein and goat/sheep/buffalo cheeses is not. The genetically modified cow (Holstein cow) when milked makes about 2000+ gallons of milk but the jersey or Guernsey cow only produces about 6 or 7 gallons. So they mix them for profit. It's not the dairy you are allergic to. It's the proteins in the dairy that you can not digest when you have leaky gut. Casein, whey, and lactose your body will not be able to digest if you have a leaky gut. You can reintroduce dairy that is raw A/2 A/2 dairy that is organic and grassfed but only heavy cream (no lactose), hard cheeses like Parmesan, cheddar,(no casein, whey, or lactose), Greek yogurt (the whey is strained out of it). Soft cheeses have the whey in it like cottage cheese, ricotta, brie, etc so those should be avoided while healing. If you find a local farm where you live you can get the a/2 a/2 raw dairy. STAY AWAY FROM DAIRY FROM THE SUPERMARKET. It's mixed with the toxic A1 casein to maximize profits. You can also buy dairy from Switzerland, France, and Italy. These are the only countries that have not joined the union and still make their dairy products with 100% A2 casein dairy but it's pasteurized. YOU DON'T HAVE TO STAY AWAY FROM DAIRY just make sure it's labeled A2 A2 otherwise it's mixed with toxic A1 casein.

I introduced sea salt into my diet which brought my blood pressure down to normal. Now doing carnivore diet to help manage my type 1 diabetes which started in my early 50s...yet another auto immune problem. I'm 69 now and going to the gym every day...I have so much energy 😊😊

Flour in the US has all it's micronutrients processed out. They are then replaced, "fortified" with out of proportion, cheap, artificial "vitamins". These cause damage, partly because they are in wring proportions, so they reduce viable, necessary vitamins. Use organic flour. Find products made with flour that don't have the "vitamins" added to them. Some pasta products from Italy are good.

Cutting all the herbicide/pesticide-laden grains/flours, plus all refined oils out of your diet, is one of the best dietary health choices that you can make for yourself. But, that means giving up on most packaged foods & restaurant-prepared foods. Read the ingredient labels on everything & learn what to avoid. Also, if you opt for dairy, stick to quality, cultured dairy of the goat variety over mass-market, problematic cow dairy. Goat dairy is naturally far more compatible with human digestion (as well as being better for cats/dogs for that matter).

There is a lot of misinfo about the so-called "Blue Zones." For example, the wine that Ikarians drink has zero resemblance to anything found on the mainstream market. It has very little sugar and alcohol, and so is closer to flavored water with some plant phytonutrients. There probably has never been any research done on those traditional lightly alcoholic drinks. It would be like conflating traditional cultured dairy made by Mongols with American store-bought ice cream.

Everyone says you need to get enough sleep but nobody tell you how to overcome severe insomnia and thinking too much when you go to bed.

High cortisol levels more than likely. If your stressed or eating a heavy meal or high protein meal too close to bedtime can be a problem for me. I think women have this problem worse than men. I wake up around 3am some mornings (usually needing to pee…TMI) and my brain starts rattling off my to do list. It’s hard sometimes to get your brain to quiet down.

Look up symptoms of magnesium deficiencies. There are different types of magnesium. Look up the most absorbable form. Could be different reasons.

I had severe insomnia until two months ago. Was told it was Cortisol. Nope. I persisted in looking FURTHER BACK. Turns out it was iodine deficiency! I heard a video by Dr Bright/ a Naturopath. So I bought some liquid Lugol's iodine and tested several spots on my arm and that night I slept (the brain turns off automatically with correct amount of iodine)! I am now on 25 mg Iodine (2 TRI IODINE capsules daily) with Selenium to ensure it gets absorbed. I have cut out most carbs, ESPECIALLY anything with sugar after lunch. I've added Mg, Zinc, Vit D3 (20,000 iu), Vit C too. This means, no bread, no alcohol anymore. More meat and veggies for me. Bacon for breakfast, eggs possibly for lunch. Nuts/raisins/fruit provide snacking. I eat 2 Brazil nuts for my Selenium btw. Nothing is eaten from a box or can. Tumeric with pepper helps you avoid dementia. No more doctors for me except for emergency use. Gotta be persistent to regain one's health and NOT trust the medical etsablishment anymore. Go alternative! Most of my friends also wake at 2-3 am. I'm reformed but try to get them to believe me? Im doing my best. My husband also is on a NAS diet and takes 2 kelp pills daily with all the rest of the vits/minerals that Im on.

Sooo, as a Doctor, have you looked into why the FDA decided to outlaw the sale of raw milk and raw milk products in the USA? When you find out, please let us know? Thanks
