Better late than never. I took too many breaks, add to that was feeling a bit sick while editing this video. Nonetheless, It's one of my favorites and imo it's one of the best title reign videos I've made on the channel. With regards to Rey, it was a terrible run. Man stood no chance and it was like the title reign was dead before it began. What did you think of this title reign?

His entire build up and subsequent world title run were booked badly. First they made him "do it for eddie" which was fine at first until they milked it and made rey into a charity case. Then during his title run they constantly had him lose clean, establishing him as a weak champ. It's a testament to reys ability that he still stayed over with fans despite this booking.

i noticed the losing clean thing too.. rey was always booked weak which does make sense because hes so small. but then why not just put him up against cruiserweights

First, they built Rey as a superhero who managed to WIN the Royal Rumble by starting at number 2 (against Triple H); then, they had him make a fool of himself by wagering and losing the title shot to Orton, and he spent the weeks leading to WM22 by acting like a crybaby, to the point that Theodore Long turned Angle-Orton for the World Title in a triple threat; Rey turned into superhero mode once again, and won despite facing two opponents who defeated him in the past. One of the best articles I recurrently read whenever I think about Rey's WHC run was about how they could have booked the build up and aftermath to make it more believable Smart fans were furious about the way Rey was booked because his title reign was like his "Giant Killer" angle back in WCW, only worse. An acceptable plan would have been: -Rey wins the RR as one of the final entries -He fights at No Way Out without putting his title shot on the line -At WM22, he wins the title by outsmarting and surprising his opponent(s), rather than fighting head on (it didn't work with Angle, won't work with Orton) -After winning the title, Rey gets the mandatory PPV title defense, but in the meantime he squares off against opponents in his same division or category -When he's defending the title, he resorts to trickery (a la Eddie) to retain

Rey came across to me as he couldn’t beat any dude who was a legit contender. Like later on in late 2000s early 2010, he actually came across as a real threat that could beat a lot of wrestlers. Here it just came across as a cruser weight who got lucky

I agree to, as a kid I think this storyline worked better as a guy who while might never be the best at defending his championship was a guy who's heart and determination could back him up when it counted. I do think he should've won more matches, especially against guys like Finley and Mr Kennedy. But all in all, he did feel like he deserved the title and it was a joy to watch him win against Orton and especially against JBL.

The 2006 world title was lost. At first, the plan was for a big match between Undertaker and Batista at WrestleMania 22, but everything was canceled due to Batista's injury + Kurt Angle won the title. Mysterio won the title for Eddie, it was a wonderful thing, but after Eddie’s funeral ended, everything ended.. Mysterio failed as a world champion. He did not offer anything remarkable. His period was ugly he fought with JBL then with Henry then lost the title to King Booker after that nothing is mentioned

I remember when Rey was World Champion WWE on it's website was doing a Power 25 ranking wrestlers by their wins and losses and stuff like that and Rey kept being ranked at 4 and later they started allowing comments and sometimes even responded. Someone asked why Rey was 4 if he kept losing and someone from WWE replied that it was because even though he lost he was still World Champion.

I was there when JBL fired Jillian. It was in St.Louis back in 2006. Smackdown was tapped and Raw was live. The ending dark match was John Cena vs The Undertaker. My grandpa took me to my first wrestling event. A great night

Rey Mysterio is still one of the greatest of all time. He was wrestlings greatest face character and honestly, he never needed the title to feel legit, but the fact he had it and that everyone loves him is a testimate to just how much people respect him. I mean say what you want about the run, but the fact is that Rey was deserving of it.

I don't think it was a badly booked title run. They were trying to build on the whole underdog thing. He needed to loose a lot to make more underdog moments. Sure it was forced, but it made sense in context. When I was watching along as a kid, I was 1000% behind Rey as champion. Loved it in fact :)

Imagine being Rey Mysterio He is on top of the world, winning the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time, only to be treated like a chump every single week and lose the title to King Booker. Four years later, Rey wins the World title and after retaining the strap, he lost via a MitB cash in at the hands of Kane. One year later, Rey wins the WWE title and he got beaten by Cena who immediately got a title shot after Rey won a tournament to become the WWE Champion after the guy who originally won the title walked away.

Rey winning the title in the first place is true Eddie in the sky interfering. If I remember right on Kurt angle podcast, randy was meant to win originally but due to bad behavior it was changed to… Kurt angle. That’s right Kurt was gonna retain and I don’t remember the reasons, maybe due to his crazy amount of injuries, Rey was given the title as a last second thing. Also that match was only so short due to rey’s long entrance time

Honestly, I always felt Rey should have had a decent championship reign, multiple times. Because Rey Mysterio weren't like any other Cruiserweight. Him and Eddie were the only two Cruiserweights at that time that wasn't afraid to take risks and go against anybody that was taller or bigger. Rey was known as the Giant Slayer and he was a beast on WCW but of course, most WCW guys didn't get that many respect at all when it came to title reigns. Rey was an underdog champions and I guess they didn't keep him as champion for to long because it would have been a ridiculous look, seeing him defeat heavyweight superstars 123. Now if he was a heel, he played dirty to keep the championship then I can see him having an interesting run. But they made him into a charity case and a pawn to hold the title temporarily as a regard to Eddie Guerrero's lost. And to me that's sad because Rey definitely deserved a lot more respect. But he couldn't really do promos, or have a sticking character but a superhero image, which is not bad but just not enough to be champion
