For Misty's Starmie, Rock Blast would've yielded better odds of victory rather than relying on Secret Power. Rock Blast hitting at least three times, stacked with its 80% accuracy gives that a 50% chance of happening, while Secret Power is just a 30% paralysis chance.

@imogenvespertine209611 ай бұрын
Ironically, the move you discounted at the start of the game would have been an answer to Exeggutor; Megahorn. You would have to learn it in place of Ice bean after Giovani, but you can buy another Ice Beam TM since you had enough money to buy Thunderbolt which in the end did not get used. You might have to teach the second Ice Beam before Lance for the Dragonite in the place of Earthquake, and then use the TM for Earthquake to swap back for the Champion, but that might not even be needed as you still got though with Rock Slide and just tanking an Outrage so might even be better to invest in some Carbos for the speed range on Pigeot. Megahorn still has bad accuracy, so you may still get some resets, but overall it has a better chance of getting through the Exeggutor than waiting for Hydro Pump to miss or a flinch from Rock Slide.

i wanna give you a few advice that might be useful for a second playthrough of rhydon: for Misty it's more reliable rock blast due to the fact that it hits always harder than secret power; in the vermilion city Pokémon center there's the vs seeker to refight trainers in case you need to grind; last advice instead of keeping ice beam or thunderbolt since two very problematic Pokémon were slowbro and exeggutor, both weak to megahorn i suggest using that move that surely destroys exeggutor due to the quad weakness, and probably kills also slowbro. Anyway love your content, i follow you since you started and seeing that you made so far it's fantastic. Keep it up man❤
@cocaloid925111 ай бұрын
For future mons weak to Lorelei, it's worth noting that her Cloyster only has Dive as an attacking move, so if you have Protect it can't hit you and you can set up a Substitute going into the rest of the fight.
@dtayza543211 ай бұрын
I wonder if Rock Blast would be more consistent against Misty. Secret Power has a base power of 70 whereas 3 hits from Rock Blast would equate to 111 base power with STAB. Considering the damage Secret Power did I wouldn't be surprised if 3 hits from Rock Blast would finish it off. That said I have no idea what the odds are for Rock Blast hitting more then 2 times and of course there is the accuracy to factor in so it might just end up being as inconsistent as fishing for the paralysis.

Overall, it feels like FRLG significantly higher level to beat due to deeper opponent movepools and less exploitable AI. Also noticed the Rock Blast for Misty strategy a lot of others have mentioned, that would make her a lot more consistent in a future optimized playthrough. Another thing you should consider is the Sevii Islands for runs that need additional training. From a design perspective, Brock is suppose to teach you the importance of the difference between physical and special moves. With the three starters, you should have Ember, Bubble or Vine Whip for Brock. Even Ember which isn't super effective is going to be doing a lot more damage than most normal moves. It's also a place to learn the importance of the type chart if you didn't get to learn that earlier. However, I agree that is quite possible to learn the wrong lessons from Brock. If a player isn't willing to experiment with either new moves or new pokemon, they face quite like a grind, although usually not as bad as what happened to Rhydon at Misty. Alas the solo play style duplicates this behaviour.
@jacobross727011 ай бұрын
For misty you did get rather unlucky but statistically viable. The way to figure it out is more looking at the odds of it not happening so in this case there is a 7/10 chance not to paralyze. You had 10 fails when you went back to misty and won on your 11th attempt 1-((7/10)^1) means that there is a 98% chance you would have had a paralysis by then. In comparison after just 3 tries you would have had almost a 66% chance or better than a coin flip. Oh the joy of statistical probability

For the Misty fight, is it possible the reason it took so long to get a Paralysis that your muscle memory was so good that you were consistently hitting the exact same frames on each reset?

Hey Scott, what about hasty nature and a few speed eevees in diglet would that help reduce tine?

A very strong pokemon, but it's not gonna be an easy go of it. Waiting for level 42 is gonna be brutal. Especially because training a rhyhorn is the worst

I'm getting Aggron Emerald vibes here... Hope you picked a speed+ nature and maxed the EVs on speed....

I always felt that Golem was a more impressive Rock/Ground pokémon over Rhyhorn/Rhydon.

Next time you play one of these, please make sure to give it a +speed nature, or +SpDef nature. I think in this playthrough, speed was definitely the thing you struggled with. The VS seeker in Vermillion City allows you to re-challenge trainers. This can speed up the grinding. If you know that speed is going to be a problem, grinding against things that give speed EVs, such as Zubat and Diglett, is a great idea. THe EVs make a big difference especially when combined with nature.

Always Hardy in this series.

@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I see, that seems fair. I see an opportunity to meme Serious, Docile, Quirky or Bashful some times. I think always Neutral nature hurts some pokemon (slow in particular) harder than others. But maybe for follow up playthroughs you can play around with it, much like you did Hidden Power in Crystal. If it ever comes to follow up playthroughs in this series.
