I’m 61 years old and I remember when Gilligan’s Island was on CBS in prime time! In my life there has never been a show on television that has given me more entertainment than Gilligan’s Island in times of joy and in times of intense sorrow. Some people say that watching Gilligan’s Island is a total waste of time. I couldn’t disagree more! Sometimes you just need to veg. The slapstick comedy is priceless and goes back to vaudeville. And yet there are some profound lessons to be learned in every episode if you really look for them about human relations. The first episodes were filmed just after President Kennedy was assassinated, an event that shocked America and the world. Then came the Beatles. America needed a show like this and we need more shows like this in these days of political correctness. WWG1WGA God bless America and God bless Sherwood Schwartz for coming up with such a great show that has endured. Oh by the way, I vote Maryann over Ginger any day!

I met Gilligan (Bob Denver) in a Reno Nevada airport years ago. He was with his family. (I think his mother and sister if I'm not mistaken) I think they were on their way to Honolulu. He was a nice man. I didnt keep him long, afterall, he was with family in an airport and like the rest of us, needed to catch a flight. But he did stop when I walked up to him, the two ladys smiled, I told him before he could say a word, I said "I realize we're in an airport so I wont keep you, just wanted to say a quick hello, I love all your work and Ive watched every episode of Gilligan's Island. I'm so glad I got to meet you. This is a big thing for me" He put down his bag, shook my hand and smiled. He asked how I was doing and asked if my day was going well and where I was headed I told him Las Vegas for a company trip and I was meeting my sis. He smiled. We wished each other a good day. I let go of his hand and on our way we went. Watching Gilligan on tv so many years and then actually standing face to face with him, shaking his hand, saying hello and small chit chat was surreal. I've watched every episode. I love Gilligan's Island. It was surreal meeting him. Iconic. Come on man its Gilligan from Gilligan's Island. I mean Gilligan from Gilligan's Island can I say more, and he's shaking my hand, smiling and saying hello to me. Like I said, surreal. I was like..is this real? I love Gilligan.

I've noticed this! Only a few seasons but it felt like it went on throughout our childhoods! I think that's because of the quality of the stories and how much they pack into each episode, making it seem much larger in our memories. We forget most of the shows and episodes we watched, but somehow we remembered more of Gilligan's Island per episode, and thus feel like there's more there. A lot of other shows don't quite have the quality to episode ratio like GI does so more of the minute by minute goings on are far more often forgotten.

Perhaps on a five or six year run, tops, they might have been rescued, and returned to the island, as they did in their later specials; But a decade worth of business as usual? I don't think they would have been able to pull that off. Of course, I could be wrong. Interestingly, it's my understanding they were enjoying their highest ratings during their third season when CBS decided to unceremoniously end the series. A strange reaction by a network that lives or dies by the ratings system.

Bloopers around the edge of the frame, such as the Studio Center buildings showing above the lagoon, are not mistakes. They are only visible in transfers from the 35 mm print. I don't know if you knew this but after 21 seconds of the intro of Gilligan's Island shows the Flag at Half-mast due to JFK Assassination Nov 22, 1963. It was a dark time in our history. But Gilligan's Island is a great show.

Great video. I grow up watching GI, and about 6 years ago I bought all three seasons to watch them with my son again and again. But never did I notice those bloopers. I’ll have to watch for them and maybe pick up on some more. Thanks.

I was dreading that this was going to be a bit mean-spirited or some kind of joke downgrading the show, but WOW! You did such a fantastic job on this! I know you put a lot of time into this, getting the freeze frames and everything else. Thanks for making a fun show even more fun to watch now!

Nice to see that someone likes this show as much as I do! I think there was another blooper with Gilligan in the submarine: I think you can see water inside the sub before it sinks low enough for the gag where he forgets to close the hatch

Love this stuff. As a commercial real estate photographer, I shoot a lot of the stars homes. One was a cover home and a hummingbird got into the house and I didn’t notice it got in the shot until I saw the actual cover of the magazine with it’s blurry wings hovering above the fireplace. As far as I know, no one else noticed it.

Everytime she called, in my head, I was screaming "Ahhhh! I'm talking to Mary Ann!!!!" (Grew up watching Gilligan's Island every weekday after school.)

In the opening of each show when they are in the Marina, it's supposed to be Hawaii but it's so easy to tell it was really filmed in California just by looking at the kind of Palms that are in the background. They are the Washingtonia fan palms which are so common in California and there's no Coconut palms at all.

I naturally "cut them slack". I've seen all these bloopers and many, many more and not one interests me as Gilligan's Island is my "comfort food". I can recite every word to every epidsode and for 55 years have been saying stupid stuff like Pulu ce' Bagoomba and Me, Myself and I. This show is literally in my DNA and I'm thankful for it.

i noticed one many many years ago while watching, Gilligan drops something and it supposedly landed on the Captain's foot, it didn't but the Captain true to form lets out a painful yelp. Just after that a wind storm blows in and blows the grass away from the wooden stand of the coconut tree revealing two pieces of wood holding the tree to the floor. Two bloopers one scene, you'd love it.
@davidmiller58325 жыл бұрын
Also in the intro, when the island is shown, you can see the small ripple waves since the shot was taken on land lokking out to the island. That shot of Gilligan's Island is Coconut island in Kaneohe Bay on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

The blooper in every opening sequence is the boat leaving the marina has a flybridge, or upper helm station. The boat they show wrecked on the island is a different boat and no upper helm.
@attygarland69095 жыл бұрын
I've also heard claims that if you look closely at the marina scene the flags on the boats are at half-mast, b/c that scene was shot on the same day as JFK's funeral. I've looked at that scene many times now throughout the years and I still haven't spotted the half-mast flags. Has anyone here?
@julier.19025 жыл бұрын
It's on the black & white episodes, since that was filmed on Nov 22, the day JFK was shot.

Sherwood Schwartz probably did not care about SS Minnow continuity as he could barely get CBS to make the show all. S-2 they just threw a fake plywood Minnow that matched none of S-1 Minnows on the backlot lagoon beach, stuck a bad fiberglass rock under it and said: “There ya go! Shoot the GD thing so we can go home!”
@guitartec5 жыл бұрын
In the short-lived sitcom "It's About Time", you hear a lot of the Gilligan's Island theme music. Sherwood Schwartz didn't have enough money to give the show all it's own music, so he borrowed it from GI

I love bloopers! My Favorite Martian had a ton of bloopers! The wires plainly seen on floating objects, the shadow of the mechanism that operated Uncle Martin's antennas, people not walking down the stairs properly outside of their apartment and in one episode you can actually see the stage hand that operated Uncle Martin's antennas on the bottom of the screen! Haha!

Dude, This is a spectacular video, thanks ! I also remember watching Gilligan's Island as a kid, and when it went into syndication, I watched it over & over again. Something that younger generations are deprived of, is to see one of their favorite TV shows make the transition from B&W to color. I had a rough childhood, and camping in the basement (where the color TV was) was, a welcome respite from the unpleasantries. Perhaps nextime you can include "Wrong Way Feldman" in a future video.
