the big question is how is the new hammerdrill with drilling ice fishing holes the octane was one of the 3 favorites for ice holes with dewalt 999,998 or 997, milwaukee hammerdrill and octane being customers favorites (at least from my experience working at midwest home depots)

I have the brushless set, my only complaint is the case and rubber moulding feels cheaper or less thought out. I'm sure it's the same plastic and stuff, but it just feels and looks like less effort was put into the design.

Model numbers of these new 18V brushless drill drivers?
@mak4503 жыл бұрын
I can definitely see where they're going with the drill. It's more akin to the outgoing compact octane hammer drill, which I bet would be quicker than the big octane hammer drill here too. However, if speed wasn't the primary consideration, I thought some of the extra modes on the octane impact driver were really nice to have, and I wish auto mode at least made the jump to the new impact driver.

I'm about to buy the Rigid oscillating tool to add to my collection. They have the brushed at $99 with a battery (special deal right now), and the brushless w/o batt for $140. I'd like to know which one is louder? If at all.

Do you know what type of cells they use in the Max Output batteries? Are they the Samsung 20Rs like...pretty much everyone else uses?
@thecasualgamer36317 күн бұрын
in the octane line up they use the 21700 cells for the three amp then 18650 cells for the rest. the max outputs all have 18650 cells in them too unless they are the max output EXP. that's important cause all the max outputs EXP batteries have the 21700 cells except the 4amp cause its the only one to have the new tabless cells in ridgids line up.

Yeah, the Octane drill is cumbersome and ill-suited to basic tasks, but it was rather uniquely strong and they should have allowed it to continue to exist for the sort of people using 6 inch+ hole saws and the like.

Looking at getting into a system, is rigid worth it now? I have enough to get into any platform, but with the lifting service agreement I am very interested. Thoughts?
@padula92603 жыл бұрын
I'm a plumber that uses a variety of power tools. Felt exactly as you do. Thought of changing everything over to new rigid. Purchased the compact drill driver combo to start. Used a new 3" hole saw with the drill through 1 piece of drywall and a 1/4" piece of OSB for a sump discharge line. The drill smoked and stopped dead before I got thru. I had to dig my 12v Makita from 2008 out of the van to finish the job. I easily drilled two more 3" holes with it. Sadly and reluctantly returned the kit. Nothing worse than not being able to rely on the tool that pays the bills. I can afford any cordless kit, but all tradesman I work around praise and use Makita or Milwaukee without a thought or complaint. I'm using my old stuff till I decide which way to go. Had high hopes for Ridgid. "Not a brand fan, just an honest experience from a working guy that needs shit to work"

Hammer drill chuck wobbles like crazy. Can't clamp anything down hard enough to keep it from wobbling the workpiece. It's insane. And they consider it within acceptable performance so they won't do anything about it if you try to file an LSA claim. Also new LSA registrations often get stuck on "pending" and the ONLY way to get the registration completed is to email or call them about it, then they say "high volume of registrations" but then it will magically get approved. Just a way for them to weasel out of it, because guess what: if you submit your registration for your product and don't babysit it for weeks or months and HOUND them about it, it will just stay at "pending" forever. And if in that time your drill breaks, it will NOT be covered because your registration was not completed. They consider it your responsibility to make sure they complete your registration. I dont see how this shit is even legal tbh. With the drop-off in quality, the LSA is really the only thing they have going for them, and they won't honor it, so after spending a good thousand bucks or so on their products, I can't in good conscience recommend them to anyone else. I've just began my switch to Metabo/Metabo HPT (there's a difference but they're both good). So far they're seriously up there in terms of quality and the price is an absolute STEAL.

I gotta tell you, watching this video really helped put my mind at ease! I recently ordered Ridgid brushless 5 piece cordless tool set. A somewhat risky move since I have no previous experience with any tool from this company. Not to mention I'm doing this on complete blind faith? Meaning, it's a purchase done online... Great video. Would you buy the 18v Gen 5x brushless Hammer dill and impact driver combo (with two 4 Ah batteries) on clearance or is the new 18v max output tools that much better. I am a casual DIYer looking to buy my first drill/driver. The Gen 5x model is on clearance in my local store and offers a savings of $100. I understand the new 18v brushless preformed well in your testing, but does the Gen 5x brushless offer a decent enough value at those clearance prices. Thanks

@@Protoolreviews Great thanks. Yes I am aware of the Lifetime service agreement. Honestly thats why I chose ridgid over ryobi or dewalt. Thanks for your opinion. I was set to buy the gen 5x earlier this year and then word of the new max output tools was released. Theny store started clearing out the gen 5x. Seemed like a deal I couldnt pass up. Like you said gen 5x are still solid tools. Thanks again.

ok i definitely learned something.. i just got the brushless 4 combo set and was thinking it prolly wasnt better than the x5 or octane series but its cuz at first glance the tools look smaller and simpler but at the same time my intuition was telling me that was the good thing about them as opposed to their futuristic counter parts. im glad i got the set and a couple extras to top it off cuz i was considering upgrading in the future to x5 but i suppose its not needed! thx for this video

Excellent review! I'm liking there stuff so far (only by reviews -no real-life experience yet) but plan on getting the new stuff. Find good deals on octane I won't pass it up! Update: I did buy the 4 piece brushless set. This video is absolutely correct. They are more refined and comfortable. These new brushless feels like a Milwaukee. My brother-in-law has the new Milwaukee's. They sound and feel very similar. Running these new brushless with my 3 amp hour octane battery feels more powerful than the four amp max output. There are videos showing the new brushless running on 6 and 9 amp hour octane's and they are even more powerful with those batteries. Overall I am happy with my purchase. The impact is a beast and seems better than the Octane for sure. The saw also seems more refined and overall better. I haven't had a Ridgid oscillating tool to compare to this new one. But this new one is definitely better than the DeWalt XR we use work.

I've only had on thing fail and got a replacement in a few days with a 1 minute phone call. It was a charger that I left out in the sun while charging batteries all day. @78cobra3 жыл бұрын
My opinion ridgid screwed up royally. Yes they want to go smaller they've said so in press releases. But its like a car line! I.e. GM, has Cadillac, buick, chevy. They got rid of pontiac because they were to close to the chevy. They should have kept the big power house octane! Then had the brushless compact line, and then the cheap brush tool. The brushless and compact brushless are to close (like pontiac and chevy lines). I buy octane for the power then compact for the space. With the new line up their is no point to buy anything other than the compact the gains are to minimum.
