I have fallen in love with so many Axiom discs. I recommend trying most of them. I thought nothing would replace my Buzzzes for a straight mid, but the Hex did just that.

Im interested. I used to throw rocs because that's what i was given when i started but I've been a buzz fan for about 7 years, the emac truth was decent. What is so much better about the hex?
@jasonchandlee7561
@jasonchandlee7561 2 жыл бұрын
The hex is a completely different disc than the emac truth. The truth goes straight amd then fades at the end and I can flex it a little bit and still get the fade. The hex is a fully straight flyer for me when thrown flat but It will hold whatever angle you throw it on. It has become my main Midrange and I use it for approach shots that need to go dead straight

Definitely recommend the hex. I used to bag a buzzz ss but hex replaced it. Still bag an eMac truth if I need a little more stability but the hex is my go to mid.

I love the MVP Inertia as an understable fairway driver. It's an absolute BOMBER for being a 9 speed and actually does have a reliable fade at the end. It was out of stock for like 18 months but they started making a ton of them this year and i couldn't be happier Also the new discmania originals FD is maybe a perfect disk. Last two - Kastaplast Svea is a very fun, super glidy understable mid and for me the MVP volt is just about the perfect forehand disc (and complements the Firebird)

Hi robbie, i do have a suggestion. Im currently tinkering with my form (as we all are). For context, On a normal day i can get a buzzz confidently 320 and a zues if need be about 360. Ive had a couple light bulb fieldwork days that have gotten me a few drives out to about 450-475. (That distance has only happened 3 times in one none windy field day. Its a flickering lightbuld that im ever searching for again.) The light buld first happened with the scott stokely video How to throw flat backhand at ~10 min. He talks about this crazy anhyser roller drill that basicaly forces the arm to snap. When i took that to the field i noticed two things. #1 Yes there was an alien amount of spin and force that was put on the disc. #2 The disc felt incredibly heavy like the disc was trying to pivot hard around my fingers. I noticed in normal rounds after that, that my normal throw is, just as you described, way too fast at the start and my hand cant hold on. the disc loses speed and spin. Since then ive been attempting to recreate that heavy sensation and retrain the muscle memory by starting at the tip of the whip and working backwards. Basically i start standstill with my arm straight with a power grip, disc nose down and with little backwards movement. try to hold onto the disc as long as possible before it inevitably rips out of my hand. (cuation: at slow speeds this hurts like a mother) If you try it you will undertsand. But you will feel that exponentialy increase in heavyness. Then it is just a matter of slowly incorporating elbow until you can fully bend that elbow and still feel the heavy sensation and then woking in the shoulder turn and on dow the chain. It essentially boils down to, you want to figure out how to keep the disc in your hand as long as possible. Ever notice how a grip lock goes further than your regular shots? Ive since seen a steady increase in my power and accuracy becuase it changes my entire form. At the moment i can now throw a buzzz on 360 ft holes and the zues relatively accurate to about 410. If any one actually reads this mountain of text, Nice to meet ya and how do you do. Also if this piques your interest and have questions. Please dont hesitate to ask.
@theemonegro
@theemonegro 2 жыл бұрын
if the disc feels heavy in your hand you need to tighten your grip. Scott stokely talks about lag creating snap so you can go fast at the start but as your crossing your x step you need to figure out how to keep your bottom half going fast while lagging your arm and shoulders. Also stokely talks about in order to get big distance he goes faster than normal and adds a hop in his x step. So if you try throwing like him you'll fail. Grip lock is called grip lock for a reason. You're planting towards the basket. Simon on his 1100ft throw he releases the disc at 10 o clock not grip lock. There's a lot of stuff your trying to teach a coach but Robbie c has an actual coach. Not a KZbin comment coach with internet distance. Grip locking doesn't add 125ft.
@theemonegro
@theemonegro 2 жыл бұрын
And if your throwing a distance driver only 50ft farther than a mid range you 1 can't throw a buzzz 360 because that requires an arm speed of 60mph and low and behold that's how much speed it takes to make a zeus go 600
@cdpcube
@cdpcube 2 жыл бұрын
@@theemonegro did you watch the part of the video I suggested? Robbie mentioned how there isn't much in the form of coaching and regularly asks for tips to be placed in the comments. I agree the 10 o'clock part is a key part of the distance and it is what I try to mimic as well. I was merely mentioning my experience in initially identifying that snap as until you feel it once, you dont know what to look for. I said I'm still working through it and can now comfortably throw a buzzz 360. I have a range finder That says so. I think the zues is more a matter of having trouble holding onto the wider rim and losing nose angle integrity for now but it only gets me about 50 extra feet for now. I did not mean to offend you. And by him liking my comment I'll assume I didn't offend him either.

Robbie, there is a lot of good information in this video, thank you for making it. I wanted to offer a bit of advice, as far as the presentation is concerned. I think you have a ton of important things to say, but the tightly framed comments, and the random banter and inserted video clips are just pointless and distracting. My two favorite disc golf content producers, Overthrow Disc Golf and Seabas22, are able to present a ton of great information without muddying their videos with unnecessary fluff. Please, just stick to your message, it'll make your videos a lot more concise and interesting. You don't have to be Danny Lindahl. His videos started out terse and helpful, and gradually degenerated into unwatchable self parody. Don't go that route. Around 9:30 in the video, you start talking about why you only want to focus on acceleration when the disc is in tight against your body, right before it begins to move out from the "power pocket" to the ejection point. The critical piece is why you only want to add upper body energy at this point, and the reason is: leverage. Until the disc is in this position, and you have actual leverage on it, adding force with the upper body is inefficient and weak, and results in the disc being pulled off plane by your arm and shoulder. It also causes rounding and all sorts of other timing problems, with the upper body getting ahead of the hips before they have time to rotate forward. I coach backhand form as well, and I've had great success explaining proper mechanics by getting players to get into positions where they feel powerful. If I ask them to pretend to smash a wall with a hammer, they can immediately understand how much easier it is to do when they're in a properly leveraged position with the "hammer", vs trying to swing it from some huge exaggerated backswing behind their body. That also drives home the concept of timing and accuracy, how it's so much easier to drive your arm out and forward to a specific hit point when you're only focusing on the swing out from your chest, rather than trying to throw hard from the apex of the backswing.

I coached gymnastics for 16 years and that sport has been around for literally thousands of years. Yet the way we understand form, technique, and how the body moves changes and improves almost every year. New ideas and new techniques lead to better, safer, and more powerful skills and even new skills never before seen being performed at nearly every Olympics. Disc golf is an extremely young sport and I’m excited to see how form will evolve as the sport matures.

Went out to the field and that felt way more natural and smooth. Added like 30 feet to my distance! Since you started this whole level up series I’ve gone from struggling to reach 200ft with any disc to throwing putters 200ft with ease and starting to get to 300ft with drivers. Dave Feldberg is a prominent example of the elbow not reaching a 90 degree angle mid-throw. Also the disc doesn't come deep into the power pocket. Some people surmise it's to put less stress on the elbow. I believe there's a law of diminishing returns when it comes to a lot of form elements, but the benefits of each individual thing probably follows a bell curve. Reachback/reachout/extension towards the peak of the backswing is probably optimal at some point, but beyond that point the returns diminish. I think that's why there's a lot of variance. Many pros get a lot of things right, if not perfect, and it's enough for them to throw 500 feet or more, because they've worked on that form for many months or years of fieldwork, training, practice, and rounds.

It took me a lot of watching videos and then immediately going to the field to work on the tips I got to develop my form and find my correct timing. I would drill the form for hours until it became basically muscle memory, then make small tweaks to improve it. I've been playing for less than a year and have gone from a starting out max distance of anywhere between 200-250 on a good day, to now throwing approximately 350-400+ comfortably. I would describe my timing and throw as very similar to Calvin Heimberg when he comes through with his throw. The way he seems to just let his arm swing through with his lower body pulling his arm is about how I do mine when going for max distance. Other times, I slow things down to gain more control and just focus on my release angle for shorter, more technical shots. All in all, it comes down to (in my opinion anyway) putting in the time and work to find YOUR form. Yes, there are similarities between the pros, but for the most part, you can tell who is throwing by their form. It was a lot of trial and error, working on one thing only to end up scrapping it to start over later on, that led me to finding my form. Great video Robbie 😁🤘

You have to give all of the Prodigy A series of discs a try..They are in their own little niche spot for approach type discs..The lower the number the more OVERSTABLE. A1's, A2's are your zones and Pig spots. Where it really gets interesting is when you try and throw the A3's and A4's. The shape of the discs really change and they become their own things that no other company makes. They are thin, blunt nosed approach discs that can make some interesting flights happen.

Congrats on the new open bag. Would highly recommend disccraft undertaker & the opto Musket by Latitude 64. The Musket is amazingly consistently/straight & great for woods golf, but you gotta break In the Musket before you get that optimal flight. The Undertaker, well it's thrown by almost every top disccraft pro on tour. Missy Gannon had Undertaker as her signature disc but graciously let Ben Callaway have dibs on Undertaker signature series. Paul Mcbeth really jams out on the undertaker & has bragged about its super straight flight characteristics as well. That Undertaker helped me with nice come back 5th place finish at super big "B" tier in February. It's great for touch forehands as well. You can trust it on flip 2 flat shots & great for woods golf.

I'd highly recommend checking out a relay or signal. For 6 speeds I can chuck these Bois out 350'+. I'm more consistent with the signal but relay is more forgiving

Hey Robbie! At some point, could you make a video about how wind affects the flight of discs? Like what does a headwind do vs a tailwind with different discs, and maybe how to change what discs we use to account for wind? That would be super helpful to me and I would think a lot of other people also! Thanks again for the great video!

I like your "not every tip works for everyone " advice. I'm one of those that don't do a full reachback. When I do...the disc is getting shanked.

I'm a big mvp axiom fan. And recently re did my bag qnd only carrying 7 speed or less to work on fourm. But I would definitely recommend you trying out the mvp fission photon and fission wave. For 11 speed distance drivers. Fission allows you to get that light weight, at the same time they gyro technology keeps the disc stable in the wind. I've thrown my 149g wave in 20 mph wind and it stays true. But you definitely need to try the fission crave also if you can it's a 6.5 speed but can rival 9 speeds

A few discs I’ve been loving recently are the Gateway Element in Diamond plastic, Viking Barbarian in Storm plastic, and the Finish Line Era. Definitely would love to hear your thoughts on them.

I would love to see some impressions with some of Discmania's lineup. I just started expanding my bag beyond Innova and Discraft, and am especially looking for comparisons to other discs. "This fills a similar role/feels like X, with the differences being Y" or how their flights may be similar to other discs you know. I feel like I don't see this kind of comparison very often. Whether you do or not, keep on making great content! I haven't watched long, but have loved what I've seen so far!

Try a D Model S in duraflex. I love mine. It doesn't feel quite as good as star plastic, but still feels nice and flies really well in low wind.

Hey Robbie, I’ve been playing for a couple years (Covid player). A couple months ago I got a ProPull and believe it is helped me a lot. It seems that everybody uses it but nobody is willing to talk about it in videos. Ulibari mentioned it in one of his recent series and then clearly chose not to show using it. I believe literally the timing video you just did could be replicated with a ProPull, but there aren’t any current videos using it. I imagine this is a licensing situation from the inventor. Anyways as somebody who is stuck in a tiny little apartment and uses the Pro Pull I would love to know your thoughts on it.
