Earlier this year I took my son to go see the live action film that came out. He didn’t seem to enjoy it as much as I thought he would. Not long later I showed him the animated movie at his grandparent’s house and he loved the animated movie so much more! Proud Dad moment there!

@paulheap1982 you're not wrong. Lol. However I do think the 80's lines of cartoon were some of the best for the targeted age group. Even though they were long commercials. They had more substance and moral direction than almost anything that came after. I feel like kids dont get that these days with toys and cartoons. Not very much good world building or characters to really relate too or admire. All the shows back then had great fleshed out worlds and such. It wasnt like shows like The Fairly Odd Parents, or Ed,Edd,and Eddie. Sure the characters themselves may have been ok. But they lacked moral direction and any real sense of world building. But you are right. Every generation thinks that. Lol

Kids have good taste in characters! My first g1 toy was Brawn, so when Gabriel said he was his favorite, I got a little shock in my spark 😢. I saw this in theaters as a kid and was devastated at certain parts.

As I had brought up over on Twitter, I saw a fan's story a couple years ago, him and a group of friends went to see this in theaters, and the shuttle attack scene destroyed them. Each of them had a favorite character that was killed.

This is so wholesome, I first saw this movie when I was 5 with my dad( who grew up with g1, but didn’t see the movie) anyways one day when I have kids of my own, I show em the original cartoon and the movie. In my head I justify the whole "The year is 2005" thing by reasoning that if sentient alien robots came to Earth in the 80's, the world would have to advance very quickly to accommodate them. Thus, in the year 2005, there can be moon bases and Autobot cities, as well as the 80's Futurism that we see in the Movie and Third Season.

It bums me sm that I made the mistake of watching the movie first instead of the series because I had assume I could've watched it without watching the series due to the fact I never expected it to be so intense. I'm glad you guided your kids out with this. Heck I'm glad you're sharing your interests with then as well. I think it's so great that you introduced this classic movie to your kids and that you had them watch the original series that way they know the characters even more. The new movies now don't have hardly any of the original line and look very different from the cartoon line. I remember when this came out in the theaters...... I agree Blurr is an awesome character, and he was a great addition in the movie. In fact, the different iterations of Blurr were what inspired my alias, BlurrtheLegend, as well as a different one that I use sometimes, Blurrimus Prime. I love the idea of Blurr potentially becoming a Prime after Rodimus Prime.

Awesome video. My kids were probably about the same age when I introduced them to TF:TM. They hadn't seen all 65 S1& 2 episodes, but a fair amount of them. I didn't say a word though, I just kind of let them all take it in, and they didn't seem too bothered by it. But it's definitely an experience that takes a lot of preparation no matter how it's presented to kids. Great job as always RP.

37+ years later, and the same shocking effect that blindsided us all when this first released can still have the same effect on kids today. It just reaffirms how huge a mistake Hasbro made when they considered them just toys and not characters we all got emotionally attached to. At least they had you to kind of soften the blow a little, letting them know what to expect, and to comfort them after. That aside, watching their positive reactions like dancing to the music is so adorable. Hopefully they continue to enjoy the TF universe as much as we do as they grow up, and you can pass along your TF Discussions "matrix of leadership" for the next generation when the time comes ❤ Happy New Year to you and yours.

One of my highlights of being a dad was showing my kids the 86 animated movie in a big private home theater. Had a big Transformers party invited the cousins, everyone got toys from the movie after we watched it, had decorations cakes ect. Spent two years showing my kids season 1 and 2 before showing them the movie. It was great. Hope to do it again with my grandkids as I have an entire g1 cartoon continuity collection waiting to give them.

I really don't like seeing Optimus die in any incarnation. He's my #1 favorite Autobot/Transformer, but damn if he didn't have a really great final fight against Megatron. Also....The universal greeting is understood by most creatures in the galaxy.
