The Winchester models 1890, 06, 62 all used flat leaf springs for the hammer's power. The Model 62A utilized coil spring for the hammer. The ROSSI adapted the coil type spring which is more reliable and longer lasting. A strong, little rifle and great fun.

Nice video, the Rossi is a sweet rifle. I have a decent brace of .22's. A Ruger 10/22, Ithaca 49, Papoose (wood stock), Marlin 20 (Glenfield), Norinco ATD.22, Rossi matched pair, Taurus 72 (.22 mag), and a Charter AR-7. My favorite is my Rossi 62 SAC. This little carbine is so nostalgic. I first read about it in "Popular .22's" in 1983. Phil Engeldrum's magazine. He said, quote- for rabbit hunters and trombone lovers...this gun just screams nostalgia. He was right. Got mine at Karnival Sports in Brooklyn, NY for $130. This was in 1984. It'll shoot shorts, longs and long rifle ammo (holds 15 rounds of .22 shorts) interchangeably!! It's really NOT a beginners gun as the safety is exposed hammer half-cock. Lowering the hammer to safe requires squeezing (GENTLY) the trigger as you ease the hammer down. Can be dicey on a loaded chamber if not careful. Also really can't scope this gun. A long relief pistol scope or a tang mounted peep sight (my choice). It is a slick little rifle, I would never sell it. To date have about 25,000 rounds thru it, never had a problem. You can't touch a true Winchester pump as they're too expensive. This is the next best thing. It is accurate, if I can see it I can hit it. Find one and buy it. You won't be sorry.

Browning moved on from the model 1890 series and designed a few other .22 repeaters including the bottom-ejecting automatic, the Woodsman, and one other that I think is the quintessential .22 pump. This would be the Browning Trombone. If you are subscribed, I will be posting a video on it in the future. I still enjoy the heck out of the Rossi Carbines. I have a new one that I need to take out and play with.

Hi,i might have missed it but I'm not entirely sure i understood how the safety works - what part of the firing mechanism does it block when in the safety mode?

My first thought is that it is a hammer-block safety, but I am not pulling the gun apart to figure it out. It would block the hammer from hitting the firing pin?

I must admit that as time goes on my taste in firearms have changed. I cannot believe the beautiful case harding and the condition of the rifle. Can you please tell me what year it was made in. I am looking for a nice all steel and wood .22. If it is not sold I may be interested. If it's not out of my reach. Thank you

Thank you for watching. I sold this rifle about two weeks ago, but at the same show I bought another older version that you'll see in a future video if you're subscribed. Most of my guns are up for sale. I buy them, play with them, sometimes do a video, and then I generally sell them unless I am in a collecting mood. That way, I can buy more and still pay the mortgage.

Have a Taurus 62 and only found one video that mentions it. Why?
@RyeOnHam4 жыл бұрын
The Taurus 62 is just a Rossi 62 with another name. I'm not sure why it didn't have more visibility, but the best I can tell, they have discontinued it. Rossi is making something called the "Gallery Gun", but that looks like a piece-of-junk. The receiver is held together with phillips-head screws and there are ZERO disassembly instructions in the manual. Don't buy that crap.
@TheWhocares100004 жыл бұрын
@@RyeOnHam I bought it in 2004 and it is in mint condition. How do I find out what year is was made? Serial number is TC1170. Great video!
@RyeOnHam4 жыл бұрын
@@TheWhocares10000 They used to publish year of manufacture for serial numbers, but no longer. Their manuals are also very bad and don't explain maintenance that well. The Winchester model 1890 and 1906 are the same gun, so instructions for those should also apply

@@RyeOnHam Thank you so much! It is really appreciated...…… Do you have other videos posted? Walther P22? Hipoint 995? Henry H001? Also how to attach a sight?
@RyeOnHam4 жыл бұрын
So, there is no good way to attach a scope to the Taurus/Rossi 62. That is a design feature of having the bolt open on top of the receiver. As for the other guns, I will probably never own a Walther P22, HiPoint 994, or Henry H001. I am not a big fan of any of those designs. I do have about 130 or so videos posted, though, so feel free to check those out and thanks for watching.

Wow, even the newer Beretta Stampede pistols weren't actually case hardened. They were COLOUR case hardened, which is a tricky way of saying custom finished to look like case hardening;~) So are those cheap Rossi's actually case hardened as you say on your video, or have they simply made it to look like the worlds best case hardened metal?

Great video thank you! I love my Rossi Model 62! I had a round jammed and stuck at the exchange point from the magazine tube into the mechanism. Due likely from my not cleaning it when I should, then we moved, it sat up 5 years. Clean on the exterior and in my closet. My take down screw would not turn using a quarter. I bought it used 26 years ago and I never had it apart. Tried a quarter no luck, heated it good with a hair dryer, still stuck. To avoid any damage to the screw I covered the take down screw with a thick cotton sock and with a small pair of channel locks got the screw to turn slightly. Then used the quarter, then my hands. Thanks again RyeOnHam for the tips. Worked for me!

Thanks, I bought that Rossi new many years ago. Excellent version of the old Winchester rifle in all considerations. I intended to change the V-notch rear sight to a squared-off U-notch which gave a better sight picture, but left it original. I was introduced to shooting at age 7 or so in the 1950s with the Winchester .22 pump and a Colt Woodsman .22. I later became a collector and finally have a nearly pristine Colt Woodsman Challenger (1956 or so) to help the nostalgia. I teach grandkids safe and proper shooting. Successful graduates of my "schooling" will be gifted their favorite arm, or inherit it. (My user photo is 40 years old, but I still shoot flintlocks, and AR , AK, SKS, SIG, Bersa, Ruger, Colt, Ubertis of all kinds, Cimmaron variants, even the "Quigley Down Under" Sharps, but in the usual .45-70, not the .45-110) and etc.. ). Too much info. Bill

Thanks for watching, Bill. I grew up later in life and was raised with a Remington 870 TB, Colt 1911 Lightweight Commander, Enfield 1917, Ruger Mk II, and Ruger 10/22. I didn't discover the joy of a manually-operated 22 until later. It is sad that they do not make more pump-action rifles these days. I would kill for a quality pump-action 30/30 and 44. I absolutely hate lever guns. After a range session with one, my hand hurts. Guns should not be painful to the hand. Shoulder, yes, but not hand. At any rate, thanks for the kind words.
@UncaBill18 жыл бұрын
I see some Cowboy shooters add some strip leather (boot laces, maybe) to wrap around the lever. I know your pain, and as we age, we get thinner skin and a few hematomas, or blood bruises wherever we go.... I almost never know where or when they happen, but they just show up in a few hours, like after pulling a car hood for oil or water. Oops, there's a new one. Takes longer and longer for them to fade, the older you get. Watch out for your shins! They really take a beating. Ha! Merry Christmas! Bill

Are you sure that's a Rossi? and not a Taurus?? I see a safety on top of the action. The original Rossi's had no safety other than the half-cock type. Got mine in 1984 and it has no top safety. Taurus did take over production of this gun in the late 1990's. My gun is also marked short, long, long rifle. Not a criticism. Just sayin'.
@RyeOnHam8 жыл бұрын
It's a Rossi. Taurus took over production after Rossi had added the safety. I do not have the gun anymore, so I cannot validate for you.

Interesting, do you know when Rossi put the top mounted safeties on the 62? If I sounded insulting questioning your knowledge I do apologize. I never knew that. As I said I got my Rossi in 1984 so I guess it could have been anytime after that. The Rossi 62 really does just scream nostalgia, a swell gun.
@RyeOnHam8 жыл бұрын
Marty Jewell They were made in the late 90's after Interarms and before Taurus rebranded them. Legacy Sports (LSI) imported them at the time. This particular gun is marked with the Rossi manufacture brand on the top tang and the LSI import marking on the bottom of the tang. The question has been floated around the internet a few times and when I bought the gun, I researched it a bit. Believe it or not, the internet was wrong. It comes from a common misconception that Rossi was bought by Taurus and suddenly made stupid changes. In fact, you can download the Rossi manual here: stevespages.com/pdf/rossi_pump_22.pdf It should be said here that the gun I had did not have a Model number on it. Rossi called it the "G22" however that model was not on the rifle in any place.
