LUV THE MUSIC ! THANK Y❤U....🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 Brings back nice memories of my grandparents on my mother's side, her 'mum' was Irish & her dad was Scottish. Grandpa would play the accordion or the bag pipes at his big farm in Upstate New York standing next to a paster fence & the horses & cows & other animals would come running to him to listen. I'd feed them some treats.😊 My dad's side is English & I was born in New York, U.S.A. -- How much luckyer can you get with wonderful buds like that to ❤ had in your life...as I'm very proud of all of them.

Absolutely phenomenal performance absolutely magnificent! When I think of the walls of Jericho falling in the biblical story of Truth I envisioned warriors like this marching around the walls for 6 days and on the seventh day the walls of Jericho fell! There was a city surrounded by a wall no one came in or out at all the people who lived inside were wicked God said this is how we're going to fix it Make seven trumpets from the horns of RAM and March March at my command! Not by might nor by power but by my spirit saith the Lord on the seventh day because of Mighty warriors of praise like this the walls of corruption fell. Nothing inspires greater faster the musical message of Faith family and freedom like the bagpipes! Legendary! Thank you for sharing this amazing performance truly inspiring!

I am not quite sure if we should be a bit red-faced, or in fact very proud, that this tune came into existence in 1982 in Germany, thanks to Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb. They wanted a tune for a Highland Games there! I remember it appearing at Massed Bands events in the UK rather quickly, but I suspect it got there via the Scottish Regiments based in Germany. It has had English-langueg lyrics since 1990. Surely it IS poignant, though I think there is a view (which you can also find in the comments here) that it is the "go to" poignant tune for pipes (+ military band), and some therefore feel it has been over-played...

Another good video, thank you. I wish, though, the bands would throw away their Andy Stewart songbook and play more of the older regmental pipe tunes. As for Highland Cathedral - if I were there I’d be jumping off the battlements.

Green hills of Tyrone is a very old tune from Rossini opera willaim tell a Scottish captain of the Crimean war rewrote it for the bagpipes so it is not an Andy Stewart tune he just changed the words about 1964 to suit himself even my mom said he nicked the tune as she recognised it by its real name
@Scipionic1941
@Scipionic1941 Жыл бұрын
@@janethadley9162 Yes, I knew that the tune wasn’t written by Andy Stewart but I didn’t know the Rossini connection, thank you. AS just diminished a fine pipe tune with lyrics just as he did with Lochanside and Black Bear and worst of sll, Glendaruel Highlanders. Nothing against AS as an entertainer, I just like pipe tunes without words.

@janethadley9162 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree but the worst is content id doesn't recognise that the words that are rewritten are contrafact the tunes are public domain I've had a big argument with KZbin and I only know of the Green hills being done by AS

Intriguingly, given its mix of sad-happy, "High Road to Gairloch" got quite a bit of exposure in the context of Her Late Majesty's funeral. As far as I can gather that's 17th century. It's my absolute favourite, I must say - hair stood on end with that one - impossible-yet-real mix of pride, joy, love and sadness (2:19 at kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKO5XmWEorh4jqc). I like the above "Scottish Emblem" - which I heard from the Massed Scottish Bands on Horseguards in 1990 (37 Regiments from home on abroad on parade!!! - 22:17 at kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpesl36El7aesMU). Apparently it's by Major Archie Ellis and is clearly not old at all. I've always loved the 79th's Farewell to Gibraltar - but I did not realise until this day (thanks Scipionic!) that it goes back to 1848. I could always sense the power of that tune and now I know what it is we feel when we listen!! Maybe you know this story, but: 1) there is RELIEF in it because the Regiment expected to go to the disease-ridden West Indies but instead got posted to Canada (much more like home for the Jocks) and 2) there is security in it, because when the troop ship went up the St Lawrence in fog the Captain told the band to play so that others would know the ship was there - the tune saved their lives, AND has a foghorn-like backing too it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This version kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2q3eIx5YpqKsM0 is ROUGH a bit, but then this is the streets of Glasgow and it's supposed to sound just like that - utterly authentic and irresistible, and you can FEEL both the joy and relief and the sense of security in it. How wonderful is that? (Holy Spirit wonderful). Also like The Barren Rocks of Aden, though that is not so old ("composed by Piper James Mauchline when a detachment of the 78th was stationed in Aden (during the Aden conflict 1964-67). Pipe Major Alexander Mackellar re-arranged and named the tune.”)
