Thanks for watching The Bullet Points. Today, we test out a brand new suppressor from Rugged Suppressors - the Obsidian 45 - a .45 ACP suppressor / silencer. They say it's the quietest .45 suppressor on the market and that it's even automatic rated. We get all the specs and put it to the test to see if the Obsidian 45 is everything it is supposed to be!

I just received my stamp and picked up my Obsidian 45 last weekend. It works perfectly. I used it on my Scorpion EVO3 pistol with Rugged’s fixed barrel spacer and the 9mm end cap. My neighbor thought I was shooting a pellet gun. That right there tells you how well it works. The suppression with subsonic ammunition is just simply amazing. Now, for Rugged’s customer service. They are also amazing. I had seen that on other reviews, which is part of the reason why I went with the Obsidian 45. My first time using it, a bullet barely struck the 9mm end cap. It did not damage the baffles or the tube. I believe it was my fault, as the cap that tightens the piston into the suppressor was not completely tightened down. I discovered that it stuck a little on the piston, so although I thought it was tightened, it had a little to go. That slight play resulted in the bullet striking the end cap. After contacting Rugged, they sent me a new end cap, spring, and piston cap (the one that was sticking on the piston) free of charge within two days. Bottom line, their customer service is amazing and they stand behind their products. 5 stars all of the way around. For the product and the quality.

I bought this model almost 2 years ago but thanks to the a.t.f it took 17 months to get my stamp but that's a government issue as far as this can goes it's awsome I don't have the kind of money to buy a suppressor for a bunch of different calibers but most of the stuff that can be used on different size ammo didn't get the best write ups until I saw this video I liked the looks it was quality materials many of independent reviews and those done by companies that were not affiliated with rugged they all seemed to agree for the type it was that it was number 1 pick everything on center fire pistol cans pointed to the rugged obsidian 45acp so my gun store that I have found to have reasonable pricing and there licensed to sell suppressors happened to have a 9mm and a 45acp I bought it alot had changed since I bought my rimfire can I had alot of running around for that passport photos my towns police station for fingerprinting and a sighn off from the chief all together these little extras cost like 30 dollars but back then when I sent everything I'm I had my stamp back in 6 weeks this time everything was taken care of at the store my prints where taken electronically pictures they did most of the paper work and from the day it was sent it took 27 months for my stamp to come bit as far as the suppressor goes it's a winner all around.

Bummer that it took so long to get, but I'm glad to hear that you like it. Rugged makes great suppressors and continues to innovate. Great company all around!

A version of this video without the generic metal music during the demonstration of the silencer would have been nice. I’m not sure why the music would be started during the testing.

Thanks for the feedback. Just trying new things to spice it up a bit. Swing and a miss, I guess... Back to the drawing board. Thanks for watching though.

Just got my Rugged Obsidian 45 out of NFA jail last week. Awesome piece of kit, had to get it for my HK Mark 23. Have Cam-Locs on six handguns so this can is quick 1/4 turn mounting without any piston swapping for different barrel threads. One question, why did Rugged remove the logo from the ADAPT module? I shot a range buddies example a few years ago and liked that esthetic.

Congrats on the jailbreak! I'm sure you'll love that can. Rugged has always been top notch in my book. I'm not sure on the aesthetics. They may have changed something in production along the way, but I haven't seen both versions to confirm.

What would you need to mount on a .22lr thread pattern 1/2"-28?

I'm guessing that's the same thread pitch as a 9mm?

Why do you play music over the range footage?! We want to hear how it sounds.

+CA Guns Hey, CA Guns! First, thank you for all of the great comments... you're awesome. Second, no... not a repost. Brand new suppressor. This is our first time reviewing it. We did release a review of the Rugged Suppressors Razor 762 about a month ago. Maybe that's what you're thinking of. : )

Did you have to sneak out without your wives knowing? Why the cloak of darkness? Got mine the other day, very well made compared to the Huntertown Arms cans I have. Huntertown is now out of business so I’m screwed if I have a baffle strike or something.

Haha! No. The wives knew. They always seem to know... It was a timing thing. The Rugged team had some other commitments earlier in the day, and we had to wait until the range was closed for filming. That coupled with the fact that the sun sets early in December, we were shooting in the dark (literally).

Cool video but playing any sort of music (especially loud music) while firing the suppressor is super annoying and kinda fucked up the video. Why make a bunch of noise at the moment of truth? People want complete silence and the opportunity to really hear the action of the gun. Just my two cents anyways

Good call, and not the first time I've gotten that feedback. Our more recent videos include unsuppressed and suppressed shots side by side, as well as cameras down range. The goal is to show the difference between the shooter's ear and down range sound suppression, as compared to a bare muzzle. Thanks for watching, and hopefully some of our more recent videos hit the mark.
