I wish I knew the names of all the cars that raced in this video but I can’t read some of the Japanese Hiragana/Katakana. It’s amazing how many “forgotten legends” were featured in this video. This is before the DC2 Honda Integra Type R outshined the Honda Prelude. Before the Toyota Mark 4 Supra made the Mark 3 Supra, Celica GT-4, and MR2 Turbo more obscure. Before the Subaru Impreza WRX STi and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rose to the top with AWD turbo engines. Before the 300ZX and 3000GTO were sadly forgotten.
@unluckyabsol5 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking this as I watched this, it's too bad as the 3000gt and the 300zx are some of my favorites in terms of 90s Japanese cars. The only other that hadn't been released yet but made irrelevant by the integra was the fto. But we Americans got stuck with the fat eclipse which is cool but not like the fto

Tsuchiya drove that GT-R far too sideways. He took a drift approach which is simply not the fastest way around. I know he drove the Taisan Klepper GT-R in the JTC at this time, but the approach of pitching in the GT-R sharply to induce oversteer, then balance constant oversteer through the corner, was not the fastest way to do it. It used the AWD system to hold the drift oversteer, but not to maximise the traction advantage out of the corner. And Tsukuba has three major hairpin corners that are made for cars like the GT-R.

Love the R32! It's the heaviest, tallest, front-mid layout with same amount of power as NSX and RX7 type R yet it smokes the NSX and just 0.13 second behind RX7 type R, I'm pretty sure the R32 lost that 0.13 second on back straight due to less power to weight ratio by 280 hp regulation (Not because RB26!!). The NSX has mid-engine layout meaning low rotational inertia, both NSX and RX7 are lighter, with lower body, lower ground clearance and RWD. RWD allows more negative camber and positive caster but they still caught up by the R32 lol. The R32 is impressive, it doesn't have the chassis, weight and suspension advantage but it has the all mighty ATTESA ET-S. I can see the handling of R32 is more adjustable at lower speed, that's because lower speed= lower relative power and the ATTESA ET-S allows rear wheels spinning 5% faster than the front, not too much but enough to loosen the rear for reducing turning radius. The car will under-steer at high speed because of its weight but I'm impressed by the way it saves the understeer at 8:02. He reached 3,500-4,000 rpm at that time I think and that's about to reach its max torque, so the power delivery can be quite effective, in other word, if he quickly release the throttle in that situation, it'll perform engine brake, it requires good front-rear traction balance in order to maintain dynamic and the ATTESA did so well fighting against the inertia. I mean ATTESA is very good at maintaining traction balance against high inertia load by sending most of the power at the rear which aids the car to turn instead of sending to the front for "driver-friendly". Beside that, close gear ratios allows equal amount of acceleration off corner as NSX and RX7, rear transmission+ rear mounted FWD transfer case allows better weight distribution and I believe both R32 and NSX has similar weight distribution. Therefor, physical traction balance should be identical. A 1,430 kg car can handle as balance as a 1,270-1,360 kg car... Good job Nissan!
@cirilobeto8 жыл бұрын
It smokes the NSX? it might have had a better time in qualifying but during the actual race the RX7 and NSX blew it away. Not to diminish the GT-R, it's a great car, but the front tires just can't deal with the extra weight for a long period of time. Also the weight distribution is nowhere close to the NSX's. With the engine up front it's about 55/45% F/R. NSX is more like 42/58% F/R. The GT-R might do great in a single lap but once you put it in a 5 lap battle the front tires just give up and you have tons of understeer. Nissan should have put more rubber in the GT-R. I bet that would have changed the result and the GT-R might have had a better chance if it could consistently keep the same time it had in qualifying for the whole race. But yeah, for its specs, the GT-R was impressive!
@andipajeroking7 жыл бұрын
And do not forget that the r32 achieves that because of the turbo! Without the turbo it would have been slower. Put a turbo on the nsx and brace for impact :))
@calebromero83286 жыл бұрын
Also, the FD3S RX-7 only had around 251hp in 1992, if it had the same hp as the R32, the power to weight ratio would have been so so much better, and the FD does so well in the corners due to its perfect 50/50 weight distribution. The power band in the FD is also very usable considering it had sequential turbos allowing the power to be there at any RPM, and even though it doesn’t make nearly as much power as the GT-R or the NSX it had a higher rev limit allowing for more wheel speed thus limiting the amount of time you would need to shift keeping it in the power band for longer periods of time. But all three cars are incredibly cool
@cordiasr70216 жыл бұрын
There was no regulation on power lol it still made 320hp the agreement was to keep all power numbers publicly disclosed to be less than 280(but all of them made more irl)

What the pit is in that Rx7? I can't believe that's a stock rx7. When I saw it pass 3 cars to take 2nd place on the start I just said that the driver must be Kyle Busch's Japanese cousin. Then after it took the lead it was gone.
@godgirlsguitars4 жыл бұрын
That nsx was fast too. Once it got 2nd place it kept up with the rx7, might have been gaining a little ground too.
@jeremysteib83784 жыл бұрын
RX7's main weapon being chassis balance and handling, made to tackle small technical road courses such as Tsukuba. The NSX did well and showed it's potential. While I was surprised the R32 GTR couldn't stick with them better, it never really lost a lot of ground after awhile, but couldn't catch back up either, the front tires looked like they were overheating as the under steer became very evident. The other powerhouses (Z32, Supra, GTO, MR2) bringing up the middle of the pack fell victim to traffic and had a hard time holding a more preferable racing line to take full advantage of their potential.
