One thing that wasn't mentioned is the fact the UX will be far more reliable than the other three. That is important to a lot of people including me. The hybrid version has more power than my wife's 2017 RAV4, and we never feel that it is under powered.

@@KirkKreifels They just happened to get a dud. So far mine has done just fine holding charge. I use the battery when cruising a parking lot or driving under 25mph in a neigborhood. Lexus does need to address the battery, it's mediocre at best compared to the competition. An EV battery that only gives 1 mile of range that's awful. The least Lexus could do is make the UX a plug-in or provide the tech where the electric engine kicks in when it needs to in order to work simultaneously with the gas engine. My Supervisor's Escape hybrid does that and it gets over 40mpg.

Don’t know why people dislike this car. UX250h is awesome. Yes, cargo space could be bigger which they sort of fixed it in 2021 model. Lexus is never selling for performance. Lexus is selling an overall top quality ownership experience. The quietness and the reliability and the attention to details are what Lexus is going for. I feel like the UX was essentially brought to the market to cater to that small percentage of consumers that don’t need all the extra space/room already provided by its siblings, NX and RX. I don’t think that speed is that much of a necessity to the consumer, but more so the purpose of its subcompact design. The runt of the family doesn’t have to prove itself, because it’s doing just fine. Besides, you’ll see more of these on the road in 10 years compared to its competitors.
@willnye9788
@willnye9788 2 жыл бұрын
I read an article from the designer and they mentioned that the UX was to pave way for owners to have something suitable until they graduate to a bigger and more lavish vehicle like the NX or RX. The UX was more targeted to younger consumers (late 20's to mid 30's) that are single or have a baby and needed a commuter vehicle that was comfortable but economic. Nothing wrong with an entry or beginner's vehicle in the luxury segment but they really need to make it appealing enough that would encourage the consumer to purchase it. Lexus mostly focused on price and economy versus the point of the luxury segment.

Last year my mother bought the UX250h F-Sport using a family members employee discount (great deal) and she absolutely loves it. It's surprisingly great. Sure it's down on power but for the folks that are looking for a vehicle like this, it's adequate. The hybrid power train definitely makes it feel like it has more power than it does. The interior feels really nice and it does feel pretty good dynamically.

I testdrove both the base model and hybrid and it was a done deal with the hybrid. Those extra 10+hp make a difference especially when in sportmode. I went from a 1.6T 4cyl with 188hp and the UX does just as well without the turbo lag and not using premium fuel for the UX is a huge plus. The price difference is not bad either about a $4000 difference in sticker price to opt for the hybrid F-sport. What I've noticed though is the engine is not very economical once in normal or sport mode for so long and you start to see the mpg really drop with just a ~10gal. tank.

The Lex 250h is exactly what it claims to be: a well designed vehicle for economical, very comfortable, responsive, agile, and enjoyable city driving focused primarily on just transportation with regular supply shopping for singles, or couples, or small fams with young children. This completely describes over 90% of my actual travel needs at this juncture in my life. I wholeheartedly agree, however, that the 250h is not, nor will it ever be the vehicle that your review seems to wish it would be. Pretty much, though, what you really appear to desire, is soon to be released in a different car in the Lex lineup: the '22 NX 450h+. This new NX variant should nicely fulfil many of your wishes, among others including: dramatically increased performance (300 hp), infotainment (very large touch screen interface), and somewhat increased interior dimensions. Do you agree?

Lexus is in a huge bind here in Texas with this model, I believe. For the price point you can get a lot more vehicle, size, trim and power wise. Sewell Dallas has sixteen(16) 250h listed on their website, average MSRP $39k(!)...No one will pay near that price for a Sub-Compact(Wheelbase 103.9") for travel on our high speed roads. It is essentially the same issues the Toyota CHR has which was originally supposed to be sold under the Scion brand in Europe till Scion no longer exists. The CHR is also the most comparable to the UX in the Toyota Motor Corp lineup of vehicles in the North American market at least. If the UX was cheaper, I think it would have been a bit more compelling for the size. Definitely agree that it is just impractical. It needs to be bigger, similar to the Corolla Cross. If they were to base a next-gen UX off the Corolla Cross, they need to have more 2nd-row legroom as a 5'7" person's legs touch the back of the front row seat.

I drove one as a service loaner the last couple days. I didn't like the sight lines in the UX, especially looking forward. The rear view mirror (and equipment) takes up way too much space and when you're pulling into driveways in certain angles I could even see the danger of not seeing a car coming your way for a second. Overall, the sight lines to the front and rear both felt restrictive. Overall it's still an ok car....

I bought the UX 250h AWD. I love the assistant technologies, but the GPS usability/interface is not so great. Because of the run-flat tires, it is a noisy ride, so I have difficulty enjoying the Mark Levinson stereo. I have no problem with cargo space - it suits my needs perfectly. I never ever get better than 38mpg, no matter how light on the pedal. Having said that, I live on a hill, so hauling that AWD up the mountain uses more gas. And since they had to use a smaller gas tank because of the AWD gear, the range is decreased. I am NOT a fan of the SUV/CUV trend, but I like the interior finish quality and ride of this car. Since Lexus stopped making the CT, and I wanted a small car with a bit of luxury and good(ish) gas mileage, it was the best choice.

My wife currently owns a 2019 C-HR Limited. If the UX is anything like the C-HR it’s based off, I know that it’s a great driving and handling little car. But I also know that it is painfully catastrophically slow. The UX should have came standard with the 2.5 NA 4 with 200 hp as a standard motor and the RAV4’s hybrid system with 219 hp as an optional motor. Both engines could have been able to be paired with AWD/eAWD. Lexus did not have to try to under-cut the competition in price here. They could have charged $1,500 - $2,000 more for the car and given it a real powertrain. My wife’s C-HR is a great car. But it would be exponentially better with the 2.5 NA 4 + 8 speed combo and AWD. If the car was offered like that we would 100% keep it. But after 3 years I just can’t get over the grainy engine note and gross lack of AWD even though every other competitor offers it. So we’ll be moving on to a different brand. Toyota has all the parts in their parts bin, but they rarely ever put them together properly.

She backed out of it because Koons Volvo in Baltimore tried to steal her $6,000 down payment. And I mean LITERALLY tried to steal. Quoted her $700/mo. For what essentially amounted to a $30,000 car. After two days of fighting with them they said they made a “mistake” and the payment should actually be $448. At that point the damage was done. We don’t do business with crooks. And we didn’t want an unreliable BMW or Mercedes product so off to Toyota we went. At the time the UX wasn’t out so we got the C-HR. But based on our experience, the XC40 was and still is the best in the class. If Lexus would give the UX a better power-train, it would stand a better chance.

I know that paying close to 1% of the MSRP for a monthly lease for 36 months with $1,000 drive off is a standard to which I try to lease all of my cars. Well, the salesman whom greeted me asked me if I wanted some water bottle and told me to take a seat at his open cubicle so that he can get a lease payment for me. He came back with $660/mo! I told him that I am looking for closer to $400/mo. He said he’ll talk to his boss and that he may be able to look into special promotions. He came back with $510/mo. After a few more wrangling, he said they couldn’t do anything less than $500/mo. I said thank you but no thanks. When I got home, I was able to get a quote from multiple dealers for $420/mo. I actually ended up with a Honda Odyssey EX-L with entertainment system for less than $420/mo. I also had a similar experience with Lexus, Volvo, Mercedes and BMW dealers. Either give me the damn car or kick rocks. At the time when we ordered the XC40, Volvo was running a subscription service called care by Volvo. I knew the salesman was lying to me and I tried to give him several chances to come clean. I mentioned to him that Volvo is willing to lease (subscribe) us a car for about $650/mo and that price included the vehicle and insurance and maintenance, so why would you try to tell me my monthly payment for JUST the car is nearly $700, especially with 6k down. His response? “Well I just sold a XC40 to a couple for this amount” As if I give a s**t what he sold an XC40 to some other sucker for. Besides, our car was essentially bare bones with the exception of the T5 AWD drivetrain. We specifically ordered it that way because all the other XC40s on the lot were heavily optioned and way overpriced. Maybe you sold a $45,000 XC40 to someone. But I digress… In any case, Tesla is definitely onto something. Skip the damn middleman dealer and order your car online. I've been noticing it is in a lot of trouble. Lexus is boldly ignoring it. I've had my UXh since October last year and on my last year of my lease. I have really been enjoying it but it needs A LOT of work. For one, the EV battery is terrible it only gets about a mile of electric charge and that's if it has not been depleted yet from general driving. Two, the gas tank is flaud with how much it holds even a Honda HRV gets way more to a full tank. Third, it sits way too low to the ground that depending where I park the front doors hit the sidewalk. Lastly, the cargo volume both without and with seats folded down is just a huge let down. Lexus needs to address the following...they need to refine the battery or at least make it a plug-in, they need to increase the fuel tank, it needs to be raised up enough to provide better ground clearance (similar to competition), and it just needs a completely new redesign to give it more space without making it bigger than the NX. After my lease, I am planning to leave Lexus since nothing new has caught my eye in the sub-compact segment the new Audi Q4 has caught my eye for my first EV or Toyota's new bz4x.

I had two friends look at purchasing and they did not because the infotainment was hard to use and the way the interior is designed with the higher window sills the lady drivers felt when sitting inside the car it was bulky and not easy to see around not to mention the small back window. Also given the high price and lack of space it’s honestly not a great practical car. Yes you can go the NX however when paying this type of money you expect better value for your money, no wonder the xc40 is doing so well! @@willnye9788 I agree with those points, but I don't see why "more polished vehicle" implies "more power". Most cars sold in the US are plenty powerful, at least given the low speed limits here (sometimes more (low-end) torque would be useful, but imo power is usually not the limiting factor). But there's still a lot of room for distinguishing between luxury and non-luxury options in terms of other aspects of performance, comfort, feel and look. That's why I disagree with the focus on power.
@willnye9788
@willnye9788 2 жыл бұрын
@@erlingskancke2866 I get what you're saying not disagreeing but it's the mentality of consumers that buy luxury. I mean look at Lamborghini, I don't think people who have money want to buy an exotic vehicle that has the same type of quality as a non-luxury vehicle yet they will pay more for a brand. A luxury vehicle is meant to have more power to differentiate from the others. Say I'm gonna pay $50-75K+ on a vehicle I would expect it to have advanced performance with at least 400+hp, the interior high quality, the driving dynamics posh, and the design of it to look elegant enough to stand out. Now can economy be factored in that approach I'm sure they could refine the engine to give it adequate performance while still saving at the pump. This is where hybrid or even PHEV tech can come in handy. Would love to see a Lambo Urus hybrid that works well paired with an electric motor to crank out over 700+ hp. It all just comes down to preference and what is expected in the luxury segment.

And BAM, you got a next gen CT200h. My only gripe are those... taillight's design - not a fan of bar taillight's or those wired fins on the edges of the UX taillight housing. Perhaps this could be remedied in a mid cycle refresh! Though, I'm scared Lexus will iver-futureify it if they do that and I like that the current UX is still pretty analog for what it is. Hybrids don't need to be whacky space ships, most of us just want normal cars with physical working parts (unlike the new NX's door mechanisms). Even so, I think this (the hybrid) is going to be my next car once my 07 Toyota matrix I've been driving for over a decade dies. (Though ... it may out last me!) LOL Also a side thought, the new NX taillights look blatantly copied from infiniti's (honestly borning and uninspiring) new design language. Just look at the QX50 and QX30.
